Your Issue Profile: 24% Obama, 76% McCain

When it gets down to it, you tend to best match John McCain.

But he's not the perfect candidate for you, and you may not be sold on him yet.

Obama shares a good number of your views too, so you might want to give him a second look.

It all comes down to which issues matter to you the most.

No, I'm not sold on him. Especially since about ten of the questions didn't list my actual view on the matter.

The more I hear about the canidates, the less I like all of them. I've decided to start telling people that I am going to write in Cher and Jay Leno for my presidential ticket choice. That way I can avoid having to listen to someone whine about why I need to vote for their candidate of choice.

I think we need someone in the Oval Office with an Hapsburg jaw for the art history students at least. Jay can be very diplomatic and Cher is a hit with the military and the gender liberal crowd. They both also know how to do classy verbal smack-downs and crack jokes. There isn't a scandal they haven't handled between the two of them. (okay, so that's more Cher's territory than Jay's...) And if the motorcade breaks down, Jay can fix it himself.

Those who remember following Katrina from [info]interdictor's journal, these are his coworkers who are still in New Orleans. He no longer lives anywhere near the area.

Taking an easy day

Body made the request for rest. I thought about ignoring it. Body threatened dire consequences. I capitulated to body's need for more sleep. And I feel a whole lot better for it, though I still feel sleepy.

My daughter wanted to eat out when she got out of school. While she was paying, she wanted me to make the decision. (Her brother is at the movies with some friends.) I remember someone telling me about a little Chinese restaurant near us. I hadn't taken her recommendation too seriously at the time, because she didn't strike me as someone who had much experience with oriental food. However, she was right about this place. It was great. Everything was full of rich flavor and affordable. I smile just thinking about my meal.

Anyway, I'm going to veg out some more...

All my life (until Mom made friends with someone who hated Cherokee), I was told my Dad was part Cherokee. In fact, he has some cousins on the Cherokee roles. I knew that since my dad's Native American ancestry was from Pennsylvania, that they were probably grouped with another tribe.

Anyway, a few months ago, my dad told me that his grandfather used to volunteer at the "Indian reservastion" nearby. There are no official government reservations there, but chance were that my great grandmother was an orphan of the local population.

Doing more research, I found this:

The Lenni Lenape or Delaware Indians are often said to be extinct. This is not true--there are 11,000 Lenape people in Oklahoma, where they were sent by the US government (which only recently stopped incorrectly classifying them as Cherokees), and another 5000 Lenape Indian descendents in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

I'm going to see if I can find some Lenape symbols to mix with Pennsylvanian Dutch hexes to create something in memory of my great grandmother, who was adopted by a Pennsylvanian Dutch family.

My first day back in class...

I learned several things today that had nothing to do with lithography.

  1. Men are actually more savvy about relationship interactions than they appear to be most of the time.
At least when they don't have the female completely committed to them. Or maybe it's the the type of men I'm now involved with. I'm not sure. Anyway, I was going to have a heart to heart with the two most important ones to me today, to finally clear everything up and get rid of at least some of the uncertainty. Both of them side-stepped me with deftness and skill. The older one did it better, of course. Before I could even get to the crux of the matter, he deliberately said something out of character to shock me. As my jaw dropped and eyes popped out, I realized he had a very satisfied and smug smile on his face. In one sentence, he totally confirmed what he needed to know and spent the rest of the time messing with me. The younger one was a perfect gentleman this morning and full of all sorts of understanding. Anything I would have brought up would have made me look paranoid. So, My Men - 2. Me - 0. However, I no longer feel so lenient towards either of them. They have shown that they are not as helpless in these matters as I had thought.

  2. The prof I will be working for this year is a really cool guy.
I am really going to enjoy being a tutor. He also does the Scarab. When I meantioned I was the short story winner from last year, he said he thought my name looked familiar.

  3. My donated glass art piece is going to be hung near the dean's office.
At least that's the plan at the moment. It's not up yet because people get new ideas where it might look good at. I am amused that they are not going to let it go to another builing on campus.

  4. There have been some changes in the art faculty this summer.
Bad - my ceramic prof has left the school. Indifferent - the admin assistant has left too. Good - the original lithography teacher also left, but has been replaced this semester by one of the best printmakers in Oklahoma. This does mean that he is going to work us hard. He teaches at OU too. By the time he's done with us, he expects us to know by sight the different between different types of prints, in addition to the innovators in the field, as well as the techniques of lithography.

Ethical personality

I find it amusing that an ethics test would ask you to register your information with them, but they probably don't see it as a potential breach of privacy. But anyway, my results:

Judge
PRS Type Moral DNA

Judges believe that moral principle, or “virtue” is the most important ethical perspective. They ask “what would be the fair thing to do?” Then they’ll make sure that laws, rules and contracts have been complied with, although they’ll sometimes “interpret” a rule differently to be consistent with their principles. Finally they’ll consider the human dimension and the impact of their decisions on others. Judges are stubborn but good to have around when the going gets tough. About 17% of adults are Judges.

Strengths: Good at solving really challenging dilemmas.
Weaknesses: Could lack empathy with others in making tough decisions. May sometimes bend the rules if they believe a higher principle is at stake.

Actually, it hits pretty close.
