(Prosecute the offenders, get drunk and gossip, whichever! If you're an ADA, feel free to JOIN IN THE LAWYER BAR FUN TIMES!)

After a long day at work, Connie headed to the bar not far from Foley Square where she was supposed to be meeting Jeff Bennett and a few other ADAs. She'd promised to introduce Jeff to some people. At the least, she knew Brian Peluso and Casey Novak would show up (hopefully). Once Connie stepped into the bar, she grabbed a booth not too far from the entrance. When the waitress came by, she ordered a pitcher of beer for the table. While she waited for the others to arrive, Connie looked over some paperwork.

The venue for the NYPD/DA's Office Annual Halloween Party is decorated as festively as you can get on a small budget. There's orange and black crepe paper along with various other decorations - hanging paper skeletons, witch hat centerpieces, etc. There are also bowls of snacks and candy, along with a fountain of punch that will inevitably be spiked (if it's not already). There's bobbing for apples and other games for the kids, and music playing with a dance area for the adults.

OOC: If you feel like having your character be at the scene or arrive afterward or whatever, feel free to pop in, even if we haven't already talked about it.

Monday, August 24th.
Outside One Police Plaza.

"Look, all I'm sayin' is, he didn't hafta be a little bitch about it," Ricky Montez said before taking a drink from a can of Coke.

"Dude, he's a junkie," Brian Cassidy reminded his partner before wolfing down half of a hotdog. "Don't piss off junkies. They don't tend to like it. You've been working Narco longer than I have and you don't know that?"

"I know that," Montez said, eating part of a sandwich as the pair stood at the bottom of the steps leading up to One Police Plaza, which is where they'd stopped for 'lunch' after a meeting. "And to think you left SVU for us."

Cassidy gave a thin smirk. "Oh, yeah, 'cause I'd so much rather be playing Perv Police." He took another bite of his food before glancing around, seeing who was coming and going at police headquarters.

The Manhattan District Attorney's Office at 1 Hogan Place was evacuated and temporarily closed down Monday after an explosion occurred in the outer wing of the Manhattan Special Victims Unit bureau.

District Attorney Jack McCoy announced during a press conference outside of Hogan Place that Assistant District Attorney Colin MacManus and file clerk Kate Barbour were injured in the explosion. The extent of their injuries or the hospital they were taken to was not immediately disclosed.

McCoy went on to say that Hogan Place would re-open as soon as the building had been inspected and cleared by FDNY officials. Until then, all pending court cases involving the Manhattan District Attorney's Office were to be postponed.

---News Update, Filed Monday, Jan. 26, 2009 @ 6:00PM---

District Attorney Jack McCoy and Police Commissioner Chip Hadley announced that the DA's Office and the NYPD will begin a joint investigation into the events that occurred Monday afternoon at Hogan Place. As the charges will amount to two counts of attempted homicide, the 27th precinct's Homicide Unit, under Lt. Anita Van Buren, will be the NYPD's investigating entity, along with the DA's Office Investigative Unit.

At this time, the FDNY is still investigating the cause of the explosion and will not elaborate on possibilities until their investigation is complete.

---News Update, Filed Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009 @ 7:23AM---

The Ledger has learned from a source inside the DA's Office that explosion victims Colin MacManus and Kate Barbour are being cared for at Mercy General Hospital in Manhattan. The source went on to say that as of last night, both victims were listed in "critical" condition.

{{If your character would normally be in Hogan Place, or has reason to be in Hogan Place this afternoon, please feel free to respond here with their reactions or RP/write their reactions elsewhere. Also, if your character would have a police scanner nearby or even would at some point just hear about this through the news or NYPD/DA’s office grapevine, feel free to have them react as well.}}

Monday Afternoon, Hogan Place

Manhattan District Attorney’s SVU Bureau {located across the hall from the Major Case Bureau and next door to the Homicide Bureau}.

The blond ADA stood in the epicenter of SVU’s wing of Hogan Place, making copies on the Xerox machine. One of the file clerks, a kid training to be a paralegal, came in holding a package.

“Hey, MacManus,” the clerk said, “This was just delivered. It’s addressed to ‘SVU attorney’ but it doesn’t say whether it’s for you or Peluso.”

The ADA smirked. Peluso was out of the office for the afternoon. Had the other man been here, they may have engaged in a brief pissing contest over who should get to open the parcel. As it was, Colin was more than happy to get a head start on whatever information was being sent to their office.

“Hand it over,” he told the woman. The clerk, a woman in her early twenties, nodded and started to walk over to him.

“Wonder what it is,” she said. “It doesn’t feel like paperwork.”
“No?” MacManus asked.
She shook the box, which seemed to rattle for a moment. “Nope. It’s kind of heavy, though…”

The lawyer reached for the box. Once it was in hand, he started to tear the packaging off. He frowned. “What the hell—”
The clerk leaned over close to him. “What is –”

Before either of them had a chance to react, the contents of the package exploded, sending them both flying backward.

Outside of the SVU bureau (that is, next door at Homicide and across the hall at Major Case), the sounds of the explosion echoed, followed by what felt like a minor earthquake as the building rattled.
