Question About Bostik
when im using bostik for latex, how do i get the best bond? Do i have to treat the latex with thinner beforehand, or can i just use the bostik straight away?

I'm a beginner so could someone please talk me through the bonding process, thanks!

Have you been here? http://www.rubberist.net/ That link has a lot of good info and its free to join the site.

I'm using Besttest but from what I read it is similar to the Bostik.

Yes you want to clean the pieces you plan to bond with the thinner/solvent. It will remove anything that might cause a poor bond and soften the material.

Go down to the craft store or sewing store and get a matt/seam roller. You want the type that does not have the hard edge that could cut. Like this that is a little convex. http://pupu1281.staging-zeus.netregistry.net/shop/product.php?productid=2640&cat=291&page=2 The rubber style will work but sand down the hard edge of the roller so you don't accidentally cut the latex with it.

Pick up some "low tack" masking tape...Its usually blue. I put a strip on back sides of the pieces I plan to bond to keep them from rolling and curling when you clean the edges with the solvent. Clean it with a Q-Tip just before you are ready to apply the adhesive and let it dry to the point where it starts to go back to its normal shape.

The adhesive will probably need to be thinned. The Best uses the "bestine" thinner solvent. You want it pretty thin and runny so that you can apply it with a short knapp brush or a acid brush and trim it down some. http://www.acehardware.com/sm-acid-brush-acid-brush-price-53-14-5-3-4--pi-1297684.html

You can use a Q-Tip if you are doing a small area or a repair but it might get little strings of cotton in the adhesive.

This is a contact type of glue. You will let it tack up till dry to the touch once you apply it and then you will align the pieces and pres them together. Use the roller and bear down to get all bubbles out and an good bond. You have one shot at it but for the first few hours you can easily pull it apart and remove the adhesive with the solvent without much trouble but you will have to start over as you will not get a second try without going through the whole process.

I let the Best cure for a full 24 hours before stretching and pulling on it.

That acid brush link is for 144. You can pick up packs of 3-5 for $2-3 at the craft store. Just showing you what to look for.
