Pigeon John released his first PodCast... i couldnt figure out how to get it to work via a link, but if you search 'Pigeon John' under podcasts on iTunes, it pops right up.
He makes mention that he and bTwice are working on a second Brainwash Projects LP...
oh and he added a few new tracks to his MySpace... http://www.myspace.com/pigeonjohn

I watched 'The Second Chance' last week and EVERY rap song in the movie is an LA symphony track. They arent featured on the soundtrack at all, but with Steve Taylor writing and directing, its nice to see hes still behind the band.

PS. Anyone check out the new Roots record yet? Finally, a fat-trimmed rap record!

Some music for you to download. I've sorted this by album and then posted a sample song or two so you can see whether or not you'd like to download the full thing. I don't want to bombard this community, so if you want more, feel free to take from my blog.

| Your Releases |
[09 May 2006|11:23am] |
There is now a community for passing along the latest release dates.
your_releases focuses on sharing street dates for music, movies, video games, comics, etc. Mainly media content.
I'm tired of digging through site after site to find out when so-and-so is releasing their new album, or going to the store only to get home and find a new email about some album that came out today that I didn't even know to look for.
So to remedy this searching, I've decided to start a forum for it. Which means I'll now be digging for release dates all the time! That's where you come in. If you know of some really interesting item that is going to be released soon, let everyone know! Or if you're just interested on what to spend your mortgage payment on, come find what you cannot live without!
and if you know someone that would be interested in such a community, please promote! or if there is already a community like this, then let me know and i'll join that and shut up.
Thanks!

Well... turns out i haven't been living in a cave for toooooo long.
i posted on April 20th that CookBook & UnoMas released a second LP. i was just wondering about LAS and decided to check their official site that day and noticed the new record.
so apparently it didnt even officially release until yesterday, April 25th! so yeah...
my copy came in the mail today along with the 'Robertson Bullies EP'.
as far as their rhymes and verses go, they're at the top of their game. the beats arent bad either, and i'd put the LP/EP combo on par with other recent LAS projects.
Great Jason (J. Beits), Sharlok P, Pigeon Juan and other members of LAS and the Illect roster make guest spots. definately worth checking out. its a lot of music!
in the LP there is a little ad for other Illect releases, including a new project from Lojique!!! i'm now about to bury myself in searches to get more info on that release... i'll post more info when i get it! thats weird because i was searching for Lojique just two weeks ago, and i didnt even know they were signed to Illect. its good news all around...
EDIT - 04.29.2006
wow... while Lojique does have a newer release, process of illumination isnt it... but rather the instrumental version is. Process came out in 2004!... man i'm outta the loop.

Devo - Don't You Know |
] |
what's everyone think of "Don't Call Me" from 'Disappear Here'?
i've listened to it several times, and i get what they're saying, but i'm trying to see how its not a dis track directed towards their fans. I understand how they must feel, i personally avoid talking to bands to avoid being that kind of fan, but did they have to record and then publish those thoughts?
any other views?

also... i updated the community user icons. not that its very important, but the two old ones were pretty generic.

| FREE HIP HOP, SOUL, JAZZ, FUNK MP3S ANYONE? |
[14 Nov 2005|04:01am] |
Thought you guys might be interested that I'm turning my journal into a mp3 blog w/ posts on a semi-daily basis. Genres featured will mostly be hip hop, jazz, funk, R&B, and soul. Sometimes rock, spoken word, blues, and early 20s Black music will be featured as well. Also, once a week, I'll post a hip hop video from the 80s and 90s since I have a large collection of them.
You can check out my last three posts and see if the music suits you. Remember that each posts will contain *at least* mp3s in soul, jazz, funk and hip hop. More to come. Enjoy, share, and spread the word.
Leave feedback to let me know what you would like to see more of too. Requests are welcome.

Good Lord... 'Disappear Here' has been out for nearly three weeks and there has been no mention of it!
Thoughts?!
I'm not really feeling it yet, but it took nearly a year to appreciate 'The End is Now'.

The Negro Problem - Bleed |
] |
Pigeon John is everywhere lately...
not only does he have a guest spot on 'Stompin' from the new record by Apsci... on Quannum Records...
he also has a guest spot on the new record from BLACKALICIOUS! he does the last verse on 'Side by Side' from 'The Craft'...
both are worth checking out... though i have to admit, 'The Craft' is a let down Blackalicious-wise.

MC Paul Barman - Happy September 11th |
] |
recieved the prerelease for 'Disappear Here' today...
i've only started listening to it... so i'm not going to pretend to review it... but here's the tracklist. the final might be different, but this is what we've got so far.
1. Finland Intro 2. Timeless 3. Put Up or Shut Up 4. Money Song 5. Dance Like 6. Funky Music 7. Hold On 8. C'est La Vie 9. Grand Piano 10. Give 11. Pops Song 12. Less Than Zero 13. Rise 14. Don't Call Me
its being marketed as their 'first commercially released album written and recorded as one cohesive whole.'
fair enough.
EDIT
whoa! i just noticed that we've gotten a ton of new members... so i'd like to say 'Welcome!'... glad to see the symph fanbase is growing on lj... feel free to bring up any hiphop topics...
for example... i noticed that both Blackalicious and Kool Keith are touring with KRS One... very very exciting. i've seen Black and Keith before a few times... always entertaining... Blackalicious has a new record out pretty soon too... October i think?
