Today's pick comes from a collection of five stories by established paranormal authors, four of whom are working in their established series worlds - the collection is titled Unbound.I've read the novels of some of these authors, and enjoyed most of them in the past, but shorts set in established worlds don't usually satisfy in the same way. I've been pleasantly surprised by the depth of these, but the one I've enjoyed the most is by the author whose work I haven't read in the past.
Vicki Pettersson's "Dark Matters" is a solidly satisfying story of superheroes and good and evil. It was twisty enough to surprise, with great writing and plot, and I became quickly invested in the characters, so much so that when I finished the story, I immediately went to the author website to find more! Thanks to this story, I'll be chasing down Pettersson's novels, in the hope they are as dark and soulful as "Dark Matters".
