Tutorial 002
Here's another tutorial from muah. Somewhat requested, but really more enthused by
sophie_lizzie and
sunrise_sets . So, here it is regardless. Plus, I saved the PSD! Yay!
Learn how to make this:
Involves: Selective Coloring, Curves, and Color Balances
Made in: PSCS3. See if it's translatable for yourself. I don't know.
1. Okay, grab a pic that you like, whatever your interest is. We're going to go ahead and color it! But before we do that, we need to cut it out of whatever the background is. I'm not going to sit here and teach you that. So, grab a fuzzy black paint brush, make a layer mask and erase!
2. Done with all that erasing? Good. Now it's time for a selective color layer. It'll be really, really red, but don't mind it.
Layer - New Adjustment Layer - Selective Color
Reds

3. It's really red now, isn't it? Well, time to fix that.
Layer - New Adjustment Layer - Color Balance
Midtones
-60 to -100 depending on redness
3. There, that fixes it somewhat. Now another SC layer.

Cyans

4. Layer - New Adjustment Layer - Hue/Saturation
Saturation - 30 to 50 depending on the blandness
5. Okay, now merge everything and resize it to fit your banner size. Mine is 800x400 here. So, let's do that. I shrunk Harry down to about 450 pixels in height. and cropped him at the midsection. Do so and size it to what you need on your banner. DO NOT CLOSE OUR YOUR IMAGE! Once you've done that, grab this modified texture by
sanami276 and use it as the base of your canvas.
6. Drag your image onto the base so it's like this.
7. Now take this by
brasaremean and place it on top of the other layers, near the middle.
Now it looks like this.
8. I hope you listened to step 5 and didn't close out the image. Grab it, shrink it down to whatever size you need, mine was about 200 to 250, can't remember, and the past it onto the banner.
Duplicate it twice and line them next to each other.
Merge the three down so they're one piece and then duplicate it again.
Desaturate them and then duplicate it. Set that copy to Screen @ about 50% and then duplicate the original desaturated image and bring it on top, setting it to Soft Light @ 100%
Merge them down together so it's one piece.
Should look something like this.
9. It looked a little bland to me, so I wanted some more color.
Layer - New Adjustment Layer - Hue/Saturation
Saturation - 20
I still wanted something else, so I made a black bar to separate the two Harry images.
Take your rectangular marquee tool and make a rectangle a bit longer than the green paper piece. Rotate it a bit and then place it a bit unevenly.
Should look something like this now.
10. It was still a bit boring.
Layer - New Adjustment Layer - Curves
RGB
Output: 101
Input: 97
Output: 192
Input: 164
Add this modified texture by
sanami276 and set it to Multiply @ 100%.
Should look like this now.
11. Almost done! Add this and this text brushes by the ever wonderful
sanami276 again and to Screen or Lighten, whatever you prefer. Add your text (Font is Pea Missy) and that's it!
Finished Product:

NOTE: Experiment with the settings, fix the coloring how you like it. Please, don't copy exactly and steal this banner. Add your own images, change up the settings, croppings, whatever. Make it your own! ;D. For really bland bases, you might need to up the Saturation before you stat coloring. Experiment!
