Hello. My name is Day (aka Duchess Day), I'm fifteen. It's a miracle I found this place. I was starting to think I was a one-woman-show in this world. It's hard, as everyone here knows,  to exist in this society. My family nearly tied me down and scrubbed off my black lipstick when they found out I was goth. They told me I was headed straight for hell. But they didn't understand--no one seems to--that goth does not equal satan. Besides that fact, my brother blatantly pointed out to me "How can you be goth? You're black? That's not right."  And everyone else seems to think that its a 'fad fashion statement'. No one gets that it's who I am. That I can't change. It's just me. No fad. But besides the depressing facts, this place is really cool and awesome. I adore the fact that it exists. A place for African American Lolita's to talk fashion, life and all thigs in between. I love it.

Has anyone visited RakuenFashion.com? (www.rakuenfashion.com) It's an excellent place to get Lolita dresses and parosols. A bit pricey though. About in the hundred fifty dollar range. But so worth it! This first dress is my junior prom dress. I know, the first one is more Gothic than Lolita, but they sell really Lolita dresses too. it's really awesome. I got the matching parosol too. All together it cost me about two hundred dollars--which isn't really much considering---but it's too cute to ignore! The site is really amazing with their stock. This is the second dress I've bought from them. the first one is below it, along with the parasol. It's cool, you should check it out. This is the dress I'm wearing to my junior prom. It's so perfect.

Anyone use them? the prices are nice (for lolita stuff). Since we apparently need a new fridge, stove and a new ac in my hubby's car, my clothing budget has been severely cut. So I'm looking for affordable(not cheap ^_-) gothic lolita clothing. The other problem with brands is sizing, I've lost about 15 pounds, but even so a lot of those dresses will be too tight in the bust or too short on my legs. I guess I could take it to a seamstress to refit.

Hiii! So I never really liked fake hair until this last year when I was getting ready for a trip to NYC. I LOVE my hair. Always have. I have been dying it red since I was 14 (I'm 29 now) so that's just my trademark. The fake hair I purchased were two synthetic pony falls that I put on buns in the center of my head, then wrap my natural hair around them. I only do this to add height since my hair doesn't really like to grow longer than it is now. Does anyone have any suggestions on:

A. Brands of hair
B. Other ways to get my hair up quickly (I usually have limited time to do my hair before events, so time is a factor)
C. Good cheap way to make my own falls to save money. My are getting ratty since I haven't brushed then the last few times.

I just saw the Afro-Punk documentary (which was awesome) and some poor Black Alt-culture girl is getting chewed out at a dreadfall forum about discussing this sooooo I'm bringing it here because, well....this is the Black lolita comm. so it makes sense to me and I've always been curious how you gals (and guys) thought.

Being Black and lolitas, I'm sure we've all had our fair share of torment not only from wherever we're from but also our own people. Been laughed at, called an oreo, people thought you weren't worthy to call yourself Black anymore because you finally dress like you got some sense and individuality, etc etc etc. And because Western lolita doesn't reflect a lot of us, it can be stressful because it's very much the feeling of "Okaaaay, I have practically been disowned by my race and I've nearly no one to talk to? *loneliness*," if you get me (cuz I don't think I'm making much sense). As it's pretty prevalent in all different Black Alt-cultures, I figured I'd like to hear your stories, says and opinions about this. I personally think that without a good base, a person can feel pretty up-rooted from their ethinc sense of identity and that can cause some stress because it's as if home base is gone. Also, depending on the amount of racial pride one has, it can bring someone to near cracking unless they find some supportive people because it may make them question "Have I really abandoned a part of myself?" or take on another culture such as Japanse culture or White American culture. I don't know if it happens in the lolita community but I've seen it go down in other Black alt-cultures like the punks and otakus. It's prolly me being weird but there's a sense of something pretty...I dunno, I guess displaced about their personality, like a piece of them is missing. Altho, I'm one to believe part of what makes a person whole is a firm understanding of their own ethnic background and to have pride in it because, well, it's them and it's who they are so may as well be happy with it and understand the ups and downs of it.

What chu guys think?

A few months ago, I went into my local clares boutique to find some cute looking accessories to go with a princess skirt I have. I was looking around when this sales associate came up to me and asked if I needed help with anything. At first i said no, but then hesitated and asked if she knew what the lolita fashion was. She responded:

"Yes, you mean Lolicon right? I know all about that."

I just stood there with this 'Um' look on my face, since Lolicon is something TOTALLY different. Lol

I haven't seen any major fail in the previews, so I think I'll go see it :D. Is anyone  else going to meet ups or just going  and  (most importantly) what will you be wearing?  I feel like being super frilly so I'm looking for something now.

Does anyone know where you can get warm Gothic Lolita jackets? I've only found short ones so far, and they're made out of silk, which isn't really practical.

Ok ladies, I have a question (like I always do).

You see, There is a high probability that I will be going to Japan fall 2010 for a semester and you have no idea how amped I am about it!  I know that it's a ful year in advance, but i have to get working now to make sure everything is ready then.  I have all kinds of preparations to make from getting English directions to everything, getting tickets to the Takarazuka Review, plane tickets, luggage restrictions, etc. etc. and through all of this I REALLY don't want to have to be worrying about the thing that will probably cause me the biggest worry before I leave and that would be my hair.

I have several options, but I want to know what everyone thinks about each option and what has for other members in the past (whether travelling or not)

Cut for options plox? )

Right now I'm leaning toward extremes.  Part of me says cut and dye it, the other part demands I work harder at working with it naturally.  Help plox?

Also, I'm looking around for coats and boots.   Any suggestions on where I can find some that are goth/punk/lolita?

Hi there, I am Spectralwings and  I'm 21 years old. I'm really excited that I found a community with other African American women who are interested in/love wearing Lolita clothing. I'd say I am very new to the lolita style. I've only gotten interested in the fashion this year, a few months ago.
I have been doing some research on my own about all of the different types, but I'm hoping that i can learn even more by interacting with others. ^_^

So, it's nice to meet you all!

I have been exploring the different lolita sites and communities lately. I am starting to learn about the different styles of lolita than I did before. There is a new style called Fairy Kei lolita, it's like sweet lolita but much more cutesy. I am not a fan of either, but I just wanted to let everyone know about the new style. I want to grow my punk lolita styles more. I had a hard time trying to tell the difference between Visual kei punk clothing and punk style lolita. They look almost the same to me. I wanted to know if there is anyone into punk lolita as well? Because I have several questions to ask. I am very interested in experimenting with salior, guro, ero, kondona, and aristocrat styles. So the next time I post I will have lots of pictures of me dressed in those lolita!

Hello!

My name is cybernetangel99! I also go by the name Gothic Rose. I am a 24 year old African American girl and I live in a very small town in Ohio. I am new to this community and I was wondering if I could join? I love wearing gothic lolita, wa lolita, kuro lolita, and punk lolita. I have been obsessed with Lolita for the past 2 years. I am excited that there are more African American girls who are into Lolita as well. I live in a mostly white community and I am the only person who wears Lolita in my town. I wear my Lolita in public all the time. I get lots of complements, but also I get a lot of stares from people. But I don't let it bother me, because I love Lolita and I love what I wear! I am currently obsessed with bodyline's clothing, they are expensive but I can't help to buy from them! Even though I consider myself not be overweight, I still tend to be in bodyline's queen size category. I can't believe how little their size measurements are! But that doesn't stop me from buying from them. I also buy my clothes from my favorite sellers on eBay. I can't sew Lolita by hand, but I am very willing to learn! Does anybody have any tips on how to sew your own Lolita for a beginner like me?

I have some pictures of me wearing wa lolita and punk lolita. I recently had them taken, I love to take pictures with my gothic lolita!
What do you think of them, do you have any ideas of how I can wear them differently or improve the look?

Thanks for looking!

Hello, my name is rubylolita (Also known as BlackRoseLolita).I've been in the lolita fashion for about six years now, and sadly, I have just started my collection.I have two skirts, one that was a regular skirt I converted into lolita-wear and another I found in a thrift store and changed the look around completely, and one shirt, which looks more like a coat, and a hat (which I put together myself). So I'd like to consider myself as a Classical or Kuro Lolita.

Although, I have a lot of things missing in my wardrobe, I am doing my best to create a complete lolita closet. If anyone knows about great lolita stores, please let me know!
