I hate to do this, but... [29 Jun 2009|06:58pm]

andromeda77
I've been lurking in this community for a while, but never posted.  I hate for my first post to be a help wanted post, but I've run out of other options, and this community helped my roommate and I before, a few years ago.  My name is Emily, some of you may know me as the hamster's friend and former roommate, or as the girl at MFF in the horsie pajamas.  I lost my job in January and have been doing my best to get by, but I just lost my apartment and am about to get my car repossessed.  Since my daughter and I will be pretty much living in my car until I find a new job and a place to live, I really don't want that to happen.  I need to come up with $160 by tomorrow to keep my car.  I already sent in the check for the payment, but was counting on my child support payment to cover it.  My daughter's father lost his job, and gave me $200 less than he usually does this month, so the check isn't covered.  It's pending payment as of today when I checked my account, so if I can get the money in by tomorrow it shouldn't bounce.  I had some cross stitch pictures I was planning to frame and sell, so if anyone can cover the whole amount, I'll gladly send you one of your choice.  If anyone could help out with $10 or $15, I'll send you a cross stitch con badge if you'd like one.  paypal to emilys_creations@hotmail.com.  Thanks in advance.

Fursuit Disaster [29 Jun 2009|03:22pm]

ripner
So I'm looking for advice. Iw as at Liconheartwood:'s party Friday night, and had a great time there, but sadly my fursuit had a disaster in the process. Folks were painting/drawing on each other in sharpie and from some hugging of them without realizing it my suit has been stained. Now the paws I was planning on replacing soon anyway, my hands sweat so much the fur has been destroyed for the msot part already, but anyone have any idea of anyway to get the sharpie out of the chest fur?

Here are pics of what I'm talking about:

http://www.ao.net/~mengel/SN850210.JPG
http://www.ao.net/~mengel/SN850212.JPG

*whimpers* My suit is so special to me, it's the number 2 thing in my world aside from my bf. I have been trying to just go with it, deal with it, and it's slowly been eating me up inside for letting this happen to it. So any advice would be good, chances are I'll just have to save and have the white fur replaced though. =-_-= But if you see me wearing my hockey jersey in suit in the near future, well you now know why.

And I am not upset at the sharpie artists or sharpie wearers, it was just an accident, no one knew this would happen.

Less than 64 hours to go... [17 Jun 2009|10:33pm]

steviemaxwell
(x-posted in various places)

With the close of RSVPs nine hours ago, the final headcount for the game is 48 players, with 4 extra players in the possibles. The total number of fans for the game came out to 63 names, with 10 others also possibly attending. As no one has specifically said that they had other dining plans, this makes the total picnic attendance at 125 furries and friends!

As noted by one of the catering canids in the previous post, the game will start promptly at 2pm. Since we have both ballfields for only 4 hours, if you show up late, you won't play. PERIOD. The gathering time of 1pm for practice is highly recommended, as the team captains will want to get everyone together and situated properly. Speaking of captains, due to the large number of signups we will be having four teams total which will be listed at the end of this post.

Also noted from a comment by a helpful Wisconsin resident, the exit ramp from northbound I-94 West to SR-165 is supposed to be closed for construction. However, an updated report as well as official directions from the state's transportation website shows that the southbound I-94 East exit ramp to SR-165 will be the one closed for the game. In any case, the aforementioned catering canid has provided the following detour map for all attendees should one need to utilize an alternate route to the game and picnic site.

As of this post, the four weather websites that I visit frequently have ruled out rain in favor of mostly cloudy skies with a 15% chance of precipitation. Temperatures will be in the high 70s, and it will be humid, so don't forget your bug repellent... just keep away from the food while applying it. And while clouds are nature's sunscreen, having extra sunblock never hurts.

Click here for the team rosters and the planned schedule. )

I hope you're all excited, cuz I sure am!

June LAFF Softball and Midwest FurFest Summer Picnic: Last Call For RSVPs! [15 Jun 2009|09:32pm]

duncandahusky
[ music | Matthew Ebel - The Getaway ]

My, my look at the time!

The June LAFF Softball Game and Midwest FurFest Summer Picnic are just a few days away on Saturday, June 20. All of the fun will be at Prairie Springs Park in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin (just north of the IL/WI border). Here are the picnic shelter and ball fields we'll be using. You can find all the details about the softball game here; folks can gather for practice at 1 PM, and the game starts at 2 PM sharp. The Midwest FurFest Summer Picnic will start at approximately 6 PM, right after the final softball game.

What's on the menu for the picnic, you ask? Steak. Specifically, New York strip steak (or chicken breast, for those who don't eat red meat) grilled on site, homemade redskin potato salad, mixed greens salad, banana pudding, and a variety of homemade cookies. We'll have water, Gatorade, and an interesting selection of local sodas. Additionally, we'll have various snacks throughout the day. Best of all, it's all free courtesy of your hometown furry convention, Midwest FurFest!

We have ulterior motives, of course :-) Midwest FurFest exists because of volunteers, and new volunteers and staff are always needed to keep the convention thriving. If you have any questions about the convention, if you're interested in volunteering, or you just want to learn how it all comes together, feel free to ask any of the folks with a Midwest FurFest nametag and they'll be happy to help you out.

Now here's the important bit: RSVPS ARE DUE BY NOON ON WEDNESDAY, JUNE 17! If you don't get your RSVP in by then, we can't guarantee we'll have food for you! (though we will try to accommodate everyone we can).

How do you RSVP for the softball game and/or the picnic? Do you comment on this post? NO! Do you send an email? NO! You must submit your RSVP here. Any other method of response will be cheerfully ignored. (Please state if you'll be attending the game and/or the picnic when you RSVP, and remember that an RSVP stating that you "might" be there is not an RSVP because we "might" have a steak for you...or we might not :-) If Mother Nature deems it impossible to play, we will head east to The Jelly Belly Factory and take their tour. In the event of bad weather, and an announcement will be made to the LAFF list and LJ communities regarding the status of the picnic on Saturday morning.

See everyone on Saturday!

LAFF 5th Annual Bristol Ren Faire Trip [05 Jun 2009|11:12pm]

samiitiger
Who? You!
What? LAFF 5th Annual Bristol Ren Faire Trip
Where? Bristol, Wisconsin (On the Illinois/Wisconsin Border)
When? Saturday, July 18, 2008
Why? To spend a day at Bristol Renaissance Faire with friends and fellow furs.
How Much?
Faire: $18.95 for adults (13+ years old), $9.50 for children (5-12 years old), Free for children under 5
Dinner: TBD

Come join fellow furs and faire-goers for a fifth year in a row (I've been organizing this for five years now? O_O) for some fun in the sun at the Bristol Renaissance Faire. As per tradition, we typically meet up once or twice during the day just to do a meet-and-greet, then go wander off to cause mayhem and enjoy the mischief of the fellow faire-goers.

After the grand parade and drum jam at the end of the Faire, we'll all caravan someplace for food and more fun times.

As a reminder to all, it is strongly recommended that full fursuits be left at home for this event as, well, the faire dust gets in everything and the temperature is usually in the mid-80s or higher the weekend we go. Partial fursuits and simple tail/ear combinations are fine. Just remember to keep yourselves hydrated no matter which way you go. :)

If you have any questions about the event, feel free to contact me using one of the methods listed below. A week prior to the event, I will list my phone number, as well, as a method of getting in contact with me while at Faire.

Hope to see many of you there!

Windy city's got the blues. [20 May 2009|06:06am]

BluesFest is coming up June 12-14, I'd like to go with friends, and it's FREE in Grant Park. Locals, Metra still gets you downtown for five bucks, and it's walking distance from either train station, if you've got decent legs.

I wanna bring my fiddle, do my thang, and if I get a chance to plug in, hell why not? There BETTER be a jam stage out there somewhere. And if not? We find one of the designated street musician spots and make our own music.

So who's up?

Looking for help finding a monologue [15 May 2009|12:39am]

infintysquared
[ mood | quixotic ]

Ahoy, yon denizens of LAFF!

I was at the College of Lake County tonight, watching my dad in a band concert. Looks like their auditions for the summer musical, The Sound of Music, are going to be this upcoming Monday/Tuesday, and I feel like treading the boards again. Auditions will require a song from the show, and a two-minute monologue.

I know there are more than a couple folks on this list who are more intimately acquainted with theater than I. I can get the song fine, I'm a musicker by trade. However, I haven't done any acting since high school, so I'd like help finding an appropriate comic monologue that I can pick up over the weekend. (Yes, I'm going to hit up the library, etc tomorrow. I'm just using this social network as another resource available to me while the idea strikes.)

I'm a twenty-nine year old male, baritone. Much stronger in supporting roles than spotlight leads. Much stage experience as a musician, some acting experience but all in high school.
Am made of delicious meat, best served in a thick cut cooked to medium rare, marinated in a basil vinaigrette.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Anime Central pics! [12 May 2009|07:29pm]

Hey fellow fursuiters!

ACEN was this past weekend, and I noticed that there were quite a few furs around (I really noticed this during the Anthropomorphic panel, when there was a line outside waiting to get in!). After seeing a few walking around and with the prodding of my friends, I wore PunkCat around on Satuday night. I got a picture with quite a few people, including some fursuiters...BUT...I've only seen 2 of these picture floating around on the 'nets so far.

Here are some of the pics I got from the anime convention...click for da cut! )

Results of LAFF Softball: May 2009 [03 May 2009|10:17pm]

steviemaxwell
Another windy day made pitching a challenge and gave hitters great distance for the longball. Over 50 furs showed up by the time the game got underway, and with good defense on the field from both sides it was all over in two hours. Half an hour later, a second game of four innings and less players finished up in another two hours. Many thanks to [info]quasiskunk for organizing everything again, and here's hoping to see a whole bunch of you for the June game up in Wisconsin that's been paired up with Midwest FurFest's Summer Picnic.

Full boxscores for the game can be found at> http://community.livejournal.com/laffsoftball/43439.html
RSVPs for the June game and/or picnic can be found at> http://community.livejournal.com/laffsoftball/41258.html
