Forget Katy Perry, Stefani Germanotta, aka Lady GaGa, treated the crowd to a slice of disco heaven at last night's gigRating: 4/5
Whaddayaknow, GaGa drove the crowd wild last night at her first ever headline show in London.
This time last year we were in a tiz over Katy Perry’s hints that she gave her gal pal a peck and – giggle - enjoyed it.
However, 2009’s pop model Stefani Germanotta, aka Lady GaGa , has emerged seemingly from a Perspex space egg in rubber knickers and corset to bat Perry away like an insignificant gnat.
Last night solidified what GaGa-mania is all about: reflective surfaces, robotic dance moves and a costume change every 15 minutes, from a cybertronic Judy Jetson strippergram to an uber-shoulder-padded onesie that would make Balmain balk.
That’s not to downplay the songs. Lady G could make release singles off her debut album from now till Whitsun: The Fame, Beautiful, Dirty, Rich, Star Struck, Summer Boy, Disco Heaven.
The 23-year-old’s acoustic and well wigged-out version of Poker Face proved that, when she’s not waving her disco stick, the blonde can sing and play the piano very well (when she's not bashing the keys with her feet ) .
The bonkers girl from Yonkers' on-stage banter frequently verged on the aerobic - “put your hands in the air – scream – now jump!”
Thanks be to God that not every musician takes themselves too seriously, and some grow up with a unique pop vision and stick to it. The show was short at just over an hour, meaning the most exciting and inspiring US pop star right now left me ga-gagging for a whole lot more.
