You can blame ultramarine for these. Some are of Pripyat, and others of Gunkanjima.

Pripyat is a ghost town in Ukraine: one of those within the Zone of Alienation around Chernobyl which had to be abandoned when the nuclear power plant there exploded in 1986. "Gunkanjima" is the nickname of Hashima Island off the coast of Japan, which in 1959 had the highest population density ever recorded in the world, but which today is utterly empty. They're kinda spooky and slightly tragic and utterly gorgeous.

The epic story of how I came to icon Erika Toda can be summed up thusly: saw her picture somewhere, thought she was adorable, did a Google image search. And now you know.

I found out that she plays Misa-Misa in the live-action Death Note movie, which reminded me how much I want to see that. I should finish reading the manga, in fact. And it also explains why one of the first pictures I saw of her made me go "hey, that big black notebook with the screwy white writing on looks undeniably familiar".
