| About: | ![]() Welcome to L.E.R.O! The first member of this distinguished organization being none other than Mrs. Jane Rochester. Our mission is solely to swoon over, obsess, and worship Mr. Rochester at all times. Nothing shall get in the way of our mission be that homework, friends, boyfriends, husbands, family members or any other extraneous distractions. 1) We believe in the equitable treatment of governesses the world over. 2) That 'deuce' is indeed the cuss word of choice. 3) Most importantly that Michael Jayston is the BEST Rochester of them all (though we talk about and appreciate all the varied forms of Rochesterness.) We hope to have all our members procrastinating by either reading the novel, watching the movie version of the novel, listening to the musical version or to be searching the internet for any interviews, information, pictures you can find. LERO is maintained by the four founding members; and our token british man Before you join a few grounds rules for this community, 1. You must actually like Jane Eyre. 2. Though you very much like Jane Eyre you most have a sense of humor about it. 3. You must fancy Mr. Rochester rotten. 4. You can fancy ANY Rochester played by any actor.(BUT MICHAEL IS LIKE SO THE BEST!) 5. You can make fun of ANY Rochester played by any actor.(JUST NOT MICHAEL!!!) 6. You must be able to laugh if ANY Rochester you happen to fancy gets made fun of. (EXCEPT IF IT'S MICHAEL BEING MADE FUN OF!) 7. If you make fun of ANY Rochester played by any actor, thats fine but don't belittle or make fun of ANYONE for liking him. You may return to your regularly scheduled Rochester drooling. Charlotte Bronte on Mr. Rochester: Mr. Rochester has a thoughtful nature and a very feeling heart; he is neither selfish nor self-indulgent; he is ill-educated, misguided; errs, when he does err, through rashness and inexperience: he lives for a time as too many other men live, but being radically better than most men, he does not like that degraded life, and is never happy in it. He is taught the severe lessons of experience and has sense to learn wisdom from them. Years improve him; the effervescence of youth foamed away, what is really good in him still remains. His nature is like wine of a good vintage, time cannot sour, but only mellows him. Mrs. Fairfax on Mr. Rochester: “One of a kind Smart as a sage And like good wine Gets better with age” "Oh! his character is unimpeachable, I suppose. He is rather peculiar, perhaps: he has travelled a great deal, and seen a great deal of the world, I should think. I dare say he is clever, but I never had much conversation with him....I don't know--it is not easy to describe--nothing striking, but you feel it when he speaks to you; you cannot be always sure whether he is in jest or earnest, whether he is pleased or the contrary; you don't thoroughly understand him, in short--at least, I don't: but it is of no consequence, he is a very good master." Jane Eyre on Mr. Rochester: Most true is it that "beauty is in the eye of the gazer." My master's colourless, olive face, square, massive brow, broad and jetty eyebrows, deep eyes, strong features, firm, grim mouth,--all energy, decision, will,--were not beautiful, according to rule; but they were more than beautiful to me; they were full of an interest, an influence that quite mastered me,--that took my feelings from my own power and fettered them in his. I had not intended to love him; the reader knows I had wrought hard to extirpate from my soul the germs of love there detected; and now, at the first renewed view of him, they spontaneously arrived, green and strong! He made me love him without looking at me. Mr. Rochester on Mr. Rochester: Nature meant me to be, on the whole, a good man, Miss Eyre; one of the better kind, and you see I am not so. You would say you don't see it; at least I flatter myself I read as much in your eye (beware, by-the-bye, what you express with that organ; I am quick at interpreting its language). Then take my word for it,--I am not a villain: you are not to suppose that--not to attribute to me any such bad eminence; but, owing, I verily believe, rather to circumstances than to my natural bent, I am a trite commonplace sinner, hackneyed in all the poor petty dissipations with which the rich and worthless try to put on life. Bessy Told About Mr. Rochester: She wanted to know if I was happy at Thornfield Hall, and what sort of a person the mistress was; and when I told her there was only a master, whether he was a nice gentleman, and if I liked him. I told her he was rather an ugly man, but quite a gentleman; and that he treated me kindly, and I was content. Michael Jayston on Mr. Rochester: Rochester is all women's ideal of a man; arrogant yet strangely vulnerable. Alisaselene on Mr. Rochester: He’s the man! OMG! *SQUEE* I loves him, so don't diss him! Step off from my Mr. R!! ;> Thisbeciel on Mr. Rochester: I adore Mr. Rochester, he is truly the best fictional man ever created! If I could step into the pages of 'Jane Eyre' I would stay there and shadow Mr. Rochester forever! Philosophercat's Kitty on Mr. Rochester: She's very fond of Mr Rochester. We have seen all of the adaptations together. During the musical, when James Barbour says that he's "a brute. A thoroughly unpleasant, violent fellow not to be trusted with man or beast" she mewed and began to paw at my arm. She would not stop until I told her that I know he isn't at all like that. She always makes a point to sit in front of the TV when The Jayston is on, too. I don't mind the obstructed view as it isn't every cat that has such good taste. :D Aidanbrack on Mr. Rochester: If I had to lose a good woman to any man it wouldn't hurt so much if it was a great one like Mr Rochester. With his great sense of humour (for one can never tells if he talks in earnest or in jest) and his strong sense of compassion as well as an interesting background he's a catch for any woman. Thank god he's just fictional though. Otherwise none of us would stand a chance. ;) Another Good Reason to Prefer Mr. Rochester: ![]() | |
