It's been announced that Jacqueline Carey will be participating in a panel at this year's San Diego Comic-Con
Thursday 3:30-4:30 Evolution of Fantasy— Harry Potter, His Dark Materials, Twilight—the great mega-selling series of recent years have all ended. What will the next one look like? Or is it already here? How is fantasy evolving? Panelists Jacqueline Carey (Naamah's Kiss), Lynn Flewelling (Shadows Return), Patrick Rothfuss (The Name Of The Wind), Thomas Sniegoski (The Fallen), Greg Van Eekhout (Norse Code), and Cindy Pon (Silver Phoenix : Beyond the Kingdom of Xia) answer questions posed by moderator Lev Grossman (The Magicians). Room 3 source.
I've got a 4-day pass for Comic-Con so I'll definitely be there. Anyone else going?
ETA: Jacqueline Carey just confirmed it on her Facebook:
At last, I have details about my appearances at this year's Comic-Con in San Diego! I'll be doing one panel and three signings over the course of the event. Here's the scoop:
Thursday, July 23, 3:30-4:30, Room 3 "The Evolution of Fantasy" panel with Lynn Flewelling, Patrick Rothfuss, Thomas Sniegoski, Greg Van Eekhout, and Cindy Pon
Thursday, July 23, 4:30-5:30, AA1 Booksigning with "The Evolution of Fantasy" panel members
Friday, July 24, 3:00 pm, Hachette Book Group booth Booksigning
Saturday, July 25, 12:00 pm, Hachette Book Group booth Booksigning
I'm afraid all memberships sold out a while ago, but I hope to have a chance to see those of you who were already planning to go! This will likely be the only con I attend this year, since I have some serious writing to do. source.

I believe it was in either Kushiel's Scion or Kushiel's Justice where there's a quote about Phèdre being in the summer of her beauty. Does anyone know the exact quote?

I've been away from iconing a while...The thing that inspired me again was the cover of Naamah's Kiss, Jacqueline Carey's new book. I haven't read it yet (didn't have time to pick it up with important tests going on), but I love het cover and the first chapter. So here are some icons of Naamah's Kiss. They're pretty simple, but I like them. Hope you enjoy them too. For those who don't know Jacqueline Carey, she's the author of the amazing Kushiel series. I can reccomend them to everyone!

Actress Felicia Day (of Dr. Horrible fame) posted to her Twitter about buying Naamah's Kiss. I thought I'd share since it's always cool to see who other fans are.

Please, no spoilers for Naamah's Kiss in the comments, it's not out yet anywhere around me so I haven't read it.
P.S. And I just found this video of Felicia meeting Jacqueline Carey at last year's Comic-Con:

I ordered Kushiel's Mercy through amazon since its in paperback now. I need to wait to re-read it 'til Monday (when my Mum's having surgery) so I can escape to Terre d'Ange and beyond in the waiting area.
But seeing it on my table and having to wait to re-read is so difficult! Alas. :p

7:11 pm - Eisheth's Candle
|

I'm new here so I don't know if this question has been posed before but it was something I wondered when I was reading the books: when a woman lights a candle to Eisheth, does that mean she can now ger pregnant from anyone or just one person?
In chapter 22 of Kushiel's Scion, when talking about Katherine and Gilot it says "She had lit a candle to Eisheth in his name" The in his name makes it sound like it's just relating specially to Gilot but I'm not really sure...
It's just something I'm curious about. Any thoughts?

There does not seem to be a general community dedicated to Jacqueline Carey, so I hope that all will forgive me for posting this here!
I have an ARC of Santa Olivia that the publisher is permitting me to give away! See this post at talkstowolves to find out how you can win it.

Hey guys, I just finished reading Santa Olivia and seriously want some discussion about it! Since I know this comm is devoted to the Kushiel books, I created a discussion post over at my personal journal for anyone who wants to discuss to post in. It's open to anyone who's read the book and wants to discuss!
I figure we're all Carey fans, right?

10:54 am - Hyacinthe and the Dromonde
|
|
sandit

I've been a busy bee with a rereading of Dart and I came to a bit of a theory about the dromonde and Hyacinthe's mother. It seems reasonable to me that in her reasons for teaching him the dromonde at all, knowing as she did that it was proscribed for use by men, that she blundered in creating the very fate she sought to avoid. Her mother challenged Phedre to guess what Anastazia might have seen for her son ... is it possible she saw his fate as inheiriting the position of Master of the Seas and taught him to use the dromonde so that he might avoid it, but unknowingly caused him to rush onto the pathway that led him to that same fate, since his use of it in the Tsingano camp was what assured he would be on the journey to Alba? I'm not sure if I explained my thought train clearly, but the possibility struck me as a very clever and classical bit of plotting on Carey's part (very like Oedipus' natural parents). What do you think?
