Breakfast of Champions, the movie

How many people here have seen the movie Breakfast of Champions? I just recently watched it and I'm too mixed right now to make firm opinion. There are parts I definitely like and dislike: some of the acting is really good, but feels pushed too far near the end. I definitely felt the characters coming to life, but at the same time I didn't see much development; most are crazy from the start. The ending doesn't feel conclusive at all. I felt lost in the story amidst the insanity of everyone's world.

What do you guys think? Plus, does anybody know what Vonnegut thought of the movie? He has a cameo in the film and watched the film during it's creation, which makes me think he supports it, but was he really happy with it after it they completed it?

The onsale is at the Clowes Box Office at Butler University and starts at 10am. You can't get them over the phone...you have to be there in person.

Is there anyone who could get an extra ticket for me if they're going to get tickets anyway, or would do a fellow Vonnegutian a favor and pick me up one? They're free...and I'd be indebted for life...I'll even pay for it.

Let me know....e-mail me at sarzone @ gmail . com or post a message on here...I'm dying to go!

I'm crossposting this to a few Vonnegut communities so sorry if you see this more than once!

Hey all!
I'm just updating because I finished Sirens of Titan awhile ago, and Timequake as well. I love Sirens of Titan. I've managed to get my dad obsessed with Vonnegut, and now we fight over the books. This time, when we went to the bookstore, we had to buy 4 of his books so that we wouldn't be constantly taking them away from each other.

I'm currently reading God Bless You Dr. Kevorkian, which is proving to be entertaining, and since it is short, I think I'll probably be moving on to Slapstick fairly soon.

So far I have read:

Cat's Cradle
Slaughterhouse-five
Breakfast of Champions
Welcome to the Monkey House
A Man Without a Country
Timequake
Sirens of Titan

My dad is reading Bluebeard. We also bought Mother Night. If anyone has any recommendations, or thinks I should read something else before I read Slapstick, please, lemme know, though all of them are good. My favorite is still Cat's Cradle.

Anyway, adios.

I joined this community because I never got around to joining communities when I created my eljay. I am not as well versed in Vonnegut as some of you are, but so far I have read Cat’s Cradle, Slaughterhouse-five, and Breakfast of Champions. I have loved every one of them and feel that there is something special about each book. I first read Harrison Bergeron in 7th grade and I remembered the story but hadn’t picked up the name of the author till I was reading something online that mentioned Bokononism, so I picked up Cats Cradle, which is now my favorite book.

At this time I am an evacuee from New Orleans, though as soon as I got settled I picked up my latest Vonnegut book, Welcome to the Monkey House. My dad told me it was a good book, which he and badasscatholic had told me about Slaughterhouse-five and they were right, so I bought that instead of Timequake. Welcome to the Monkey House is a collection of short stories, some better than others, but most are very entertaining. I’m not very far through it, so I can’t say much about it. Anyway, I love Vonnegut.

I'm new here and decided to introduce myself...I'm Emily, I'm 17 and a senior in high school. I first heard about Vonnegut last year, when one of our summer reading books was Slaughterhouse-5. In English class, we read a few of his short stories and I was hooked. I'm writing an 8 page research paper on biographical literary criticism in Mother Night and Breakfast of Champions for English right now. I also have Timequake, Welcome to the Monkey House and Sirens of Titan which I need to read when I finish my research paper.

That's basically it for now, but nice to meet you all. :)

i just joined this because i have been to absent minded to go through the process of rejoining communities since i changed my lj screen name. i have read slaughterhouse-five, breakfast of champions, god bless you dr. kevorkian, cat's cradle, and timequake. i have loved them all thoroughly and feel that they have drastically changed my outlook on life for the better.

i'm currently an evacuee from new orleans, however, so i have not had the time to catch up on my reading, although i did stumble upon a used edition of bluebeard at a neat little bookstore. i am yet to read it but eager as the protagonist is that rabo something guy from breakfast of champions, whose speech in this book about his painting's beam of light represents the most lucid and enlightening form of humanism i've come across. it is his assertion about unconditional humanness that has led me to believe that all people are perfectly and equally dignified. kurt vonnegut is one cool fucker.

Hello there everybody! :D

This is pretty cool to find a community dedicated to KV... he's easily my favorite author of all time, ever since I read "Sirens of Titan" waaay back in the sixth grade. (I'm now a freshman in college.) I think I've managed to read all of his books except for Timequake and some of the essay collections, and I'm trying to get around to them as best as I can.

I don't think I've ever read a book of his that I didn't like, except for maybe Player Piano, which I'm meh on. My sentimental favorite is Sirens of Titan... my actual favorite is either Mother Night or Bluebeard. In fact, I just read Bluebeard for the first time this summer and I absolutely fell in love with it... not sure why it took me so long to read it, but it was a masterpiece.

I'm thinking of rereading Deadeye Dick right now, because I haven't read it in a long while and I'd like to read Timequake as soon as I acquire it... other than that, I just wanted to introduce myself.

The Guardian (UK Newspaper) ran a competition for people to rewrite the end of the latest Harry Potter book in the style of a famous author.

On guy has tried to do it in the style of Kurt Vonnegut (See it here)

In my opinion - not particularly good but there you go.
