Song translation: ドーリスマリィ - 冬情景 [

Band: ドーリスマリィ (Dollis Marry)
Song: 冬情景 (Fuyu joukei)

Winter Scene

Looking up at the winter's night sky, I walk alone
Pain builds up in the streets dressed up in light
Smiling lovers walk around
Memories of a certain time come back to life vividly

The places we went together, the landscapes we saw together
They strangle my heart so much
Turning all the times we spent together into memories
Seems almost impossible

I want to love you forever
I want to love you always, always
So would you turn that smile to me?
I just want you to be near me

I was spoiled by your kindness
I'm sorry I couldn't understand your pain

Believing our paths will cross again
I keep thinking about you
Thinking that time would go by like this and memories fade
Is so sad, I can't accept it

Even if this cold season passed
And another winter came
If these feelings of mine didn't cease
Would it be okay to confess them to you?

I want to love you forever
I want to love you always, always
So would you turn your smile only to me?
I just want you to be near me

I want you to be near me always

Song translation: 摩天楼オペラ - Dolce [

Song: Dolce

Dolce
lyrics & music: Sono

Without a sound, I approach your tempting sweet skin
I wriggle my tongue, tracing the places you desire

Cut out, split open   that beautiful body of yours I can't get my eyes off
Well then   make me enjoy with your experienced hands

Dance until the end   let out your teasing voice   double-cross me
hold me more   grasp me tight   sway your body   I'll turn you on

I can see it, your dirty real nature   so do more as you want to
Expose your womanly1 face   cry, cry, cry and scream
Sway your body to this rhythm   use the strength down to the tips of your toes
Take me in more, more   all the way

Dance until the end   let out your teasing voice   double-cross me
hold me more   grasp me tight   sway your body   I'll turn you on

Feeling the affection   I remember the emptiness

Notes:
・The flow of these lyrics leans a lot in the rhythm and rhymes of the words, so when translated a lot of the original lyrics' awesomeness and charm is lost in the translation. Personally I find the lyrics very captivating (in all their lewdness), but they were really quite hard to translate into English. ...I'm not very pleased with this translation so I might try to redo it later on.
・[1] Here he actually sings "メス" (mesu), which is the word used for female animals, rather than "女" (onna) which means woman. I translated it as woman nevertheless, but figured I'd mention it.

Song translation: SINCREA - I Close my Eyes [

Song: I Close my Eyes

I Close my Eyes
words: HAL // music: KAZI

The snow fell this year too
Piled up just a little bit
Even the Yodogawa river that I had gotten used to seeing
Looked somehow beautiful

I come to a halt at the platform
Where I saw you off on that day
It feels like the clock inside me has broken
If this pain disappeared
Would I forget you?

I close my eyes
Even in a vision in darkness
My mind is blind
If I could meet you there, I wouldn't need anything else

The pictures shut away in my cell phone
Your name which I can't erase
Once again I'm swaying
On the waves of long gone past

One day   One day
Even in a vision in darkness
If I could meet you, it would be enough

If only I could live freely like a bird
We were born to become happy

The snow that fails to melt
Waits for spring on the pavement

I close my eyes
Even in a vision in darkness
My mind is blind
If I could meet you there, I wouldn't need anything else

Countless times I try to forget
Countless times I try to laugh
But love is blind
Only my love for you just keeps growing stronger

Will my song reach you one day?
I'm still swaying between reality and dreams

I miss you so missing you
You are my everything
I miss you girl miss you badly
I love you so

Song translation: 摩天楼オペラ - 月の砂 [
04.09.2009 22:40
]

karmik
Band: 摩天楼オペラ (Matenrou Opera)
Song: 月の砂 (Tsuki no Suna)

Sand of the Moon
lyrics: Sono // music: Ayame

Words scatter   with a dry sound
The words you spoke   words that piled up in my heart
My reasons of living   they're washed away in the wind
Just like sand   leaving nothing but their shadow 1

The cloudy sky of midwinter   is like a grey cover over me
Layering too many colours   have I turned unclean? 2
Someone seems to have painted my heart
With repeated strokes   and made a mistake 2

I wonder if those days are already becoming past?
Even so   I nurture the growing hate I have for you   and I live in grief 3
The broken pieces of your words   turn into sand   in my heart
Even if I try to assemble the pieces   they just slip   through these hands of mine

I'm the only one hurt   I'm the only one crying
I'm the only one alone   thinking about you

Was there any truth in what you spoke?
I begin to doubt everything
I wanted to know the real you
But now   I feel I never wanted to know that

I wanted to protect you   like a warm moon
I wonder if even these feelings
Were nothing but a heavy burden to you

Nurturing the hate   I live in grief
The broken pieces of your words   turn into sand   in my heart
Even if I try to assemble the pieces   they just slip   through these hands of mine
Even though I regret it   I still have tears for you   I long for you

Words scatter   with a dry sound
The words you spoke   words that piled up in my heart

Notes:
・[1] The word used here is not actually shadow, it's "shape" (形), but "leaving nothing but their shadow" sounded more natural and correct to me than "leaving nothing but their shape".
・[2] Here, the word is not literally unclean, but "muddy; impure; vague" (濁った), but again I took the liberty of changing the word into something more natural sounding than the literal translation. Also, the "mistake" the "painter" did was of course layering too many colours in his heart, I'm not sure if that was clear from the context because of the order in which he says things D: ..Not sure if I'm making any sense. Anyway.
・[3] Another word I changed a bit; he sings he "bundles together" (束ねる) the hate, but that sounds plain stupid in English, so I changed it to "nurture". The meaning doesn't really change.

I've been working on this translation for days, I hope I managed to translate it in at least somewhat decent manner. D: The lyrics and the song hold a kind of a special, personal meaning to me, so I wanted to make the translation as good as possible, but I'm not sure how well I did -- the original Japanese always sounds so much more beautiful and far from the awkwardness of my English translations. Ah well, hope you like it anyway!

(Oh yeah -- it's certainly been a while since the last time I posted something here! Sorry, I spent a month in Japan between these translations and life's been kinda hectic due to that, so I've been a bit quiet. However, I'm back and you can expect more translations from me in the near future. :D)

Today

Today was hot.

I think my skin is a little sunburt because I went out at noon.

The cold drink I bought from a vending machine tasted excessively good.

The picture is "The Bluff Set"

A way to feel like you're drinking cold water even if the water is lukewarm.

1, Take 5 Mintias to your mouth and chew

2, Drink lukewarm water

...How's that?

After 10 seconds, come back to reality.

That's it. This was a story about "The Bluff Set".

ps. If you drink cold water after trying bluff water, your throat will hurt, so be careful.

ps.'s ps. Really, it's ho... cold.1

original

Notes:
・This is a pun; in the beginning of the entry, he talked about the hot weather, but in the end he was almost about to say it's hot, but said "cold" instead, as if the atmosphere had turned cold because of his "story". Not sure how to explain that well, but the word (寒い/samui/cold) can be used in response to bad or poorly delivered jokes, not just to talk about the weather, so that's what he meant here.

That's right, there are over 100 members in this community already! Thank you so much everyone ― even though I started this community mostly as a place to stuff my random translations to, it's actually quite motivating to see that so many people have found my translations interesting enough to join the community.

If you ever have any feedback or questions regarding the community, the translations, or translating from Japanese to English in general, feel free to always comment on any of the posts in this community. I do read every single comment and enjoy reading them even if it's just a random comment about the translations, so don't worry about cluttering my inbox with comments (because I like it, haha).

Also, please remember that I have a separate community for translating Matenrou Opera's Sono's blog entries, [info]skyscraperopera! I'm also looking for people to translate the other members' blogs, so check out the community.

Remember the request post too! Lately I haven't had time to translate much and I've had computer problems, but hopefully they're fixed now and I can soon get back to my favourite hobby. :D

Again, thanks for joining, everyone!

Song translation: Atmos*note - rainy-park/雨色公園 [

karmik
Band: Atmos*note
Song: rainy-park/雨色公園 (rainy-park/ameiro kouen)

rainy-park/raincolour park
lyrics: Sakamizo Anzu // music: Atmos*note

Without an umbrella in the rainy park, I stand endlessly, getting soaked.

Words resounded somewhere afar, but they were drowned out by the sound of the swing.
I'm weary of being so weak as to not be able to take in the brilliance of the flowers that bloom in the rain.

The sweent scent of the hydrangea fills my lungs and I feel like throwing up.
The puddles become mirrors, plunging into my aching heart.

(I can't stand it anymore, being here. Take me somewhere else...!)
My voice can't reach you and becomes one with the waterdrops which continue to fall on my weak shoulders.

-- Little by little, the clouds fade.
-- A ray of sun glimmered faintly.
-- A streak of green sparkled innocently.

In this park which is sloppy from the rain, I closed my eyes quietly.
I dream a gentle dream.

(Goodbye. I loved you. Thank you for the sweet consolation.)

Song translation: DaizyStripper - Brilliant Days. [

Song: Brilliant Days.

Brilliant Days.
lyrics: Yuugiri // music: Kazami

Memories of you who are far away
The days when we could laugh together
The seasons change the years again
Only the night wind is gentle

I remember the thousands of tears
The warmth of joined hands
It won't fade away
Because the turning world engulfs us both

I love you, more than anyone else
My praying left hand seizes the stars
If this voice of mine reaches you
Under the same sky, coloured by the stars
I'll shine

You acted strong, saying "I won't show tears"
Truthfully, I loved you because of both your strengths and weaknesses

I stop and turn around, and look
Our footprints are scattered
Even now, I pray you're going toward a bright future,
Not the dark past

Embrace me, with all your heart
My loving right hand seizes your hand
You're gentle and loving
If you see that star in the wavering night
Remember me

I will love you forever
Our story will not scatter
If one day we can meet under this sky
Even if the tears will overflow
I can say, from the bottom of my heart
"Thank you"
"I love you"

I'm glad I could meet you

Like on that day,
The sky is beautiful...
The stars are beautiful...
You are...

Notes:
・ This is such a beautiful song with painfully beautiful lyrics, that I don't think my awkward translation is even half as good as the song would deserve. I guess it's better than nothing, but still skdjfds. D:

Song translation: GLACIER - うりずん日和~レイニーデイ~ [
26.04.2009 19:22
]

karmik
Band: GLACIER
Song: うりずん日和~レイニーデイ~ (Urizun hiyori ~Rainy Day~)

Early summer1 weather ~Rainy Day~
lyrics: Makoto // music: Nao

For some reason, at nights when I can't sleep
I hear the echoes of my childhood
I glance the television and, as it happens,
The unsure forecast is rain

Little by little, the sky clouds over
Without an umbrella, I'm waiting impatiently

It starts raining

It's slightly cold

But it sweeps over me gently

I'll spend today here, like this

The sky that was clear and unpleasant at noon
Soothes my heart now
Slowly, it cools down
The burning, painful memories2

The hot rays of the sun raise their voice
But one day, it'll become cloudy again

The tears of the sky pour down beautifully
Tonight, there is no need for the Moon nor stars

The rain holds back its voice

Today, shedding all of its tears,

Does the sky cry together with me?

Because I know that after rain comes clear weather

I want to get soaked, just like this

Will the rain wrap me up?

Will it become sunny tomorrow for sure?

Notes:
・[1] The word "urizun" is an Okinawan word meaning the time of the year from around February-March to the beginning of the rainy season. It's considered a beautiful and nice season, because it's getting warmer but it's still not as hot and damp as when the rainy season begins.
・All the members of GLACIER are from Okinawa or Ryuukyuu in general, and they use a lot of Okinawan expressions in their speech, song names and lyrics, hence the use of "urizun" here.
・[2] Literally this is not "memories" but "time", but the idea is pretty much the same and it sounds better as "memories" in English, at least to me.

The 757th story

Almost every morning, I've seen the retreating figure of a lovely girl at the platform

Today, I thought that I want to admire her face
I passed her by and took a glimpse

And actually "she" was a bandman

A person in the same business as me, eh?

Please return my youth

Please return the money I spent at Yoshinoya1 every day cheerfully waiting for the first train

Please make the ushisuki2 meals cheaper

original

Notes:
・[1] He actually said he was eating "yoshi cattle", but that just means he was eating at Yoshinoya so I changed it to that. |D
・[2] Ushisuki is a meal at Yoshinoya, not sure what it is though and don't have time to google for it now, but it does contain cattle. Haha.
