Okay. I have never read the comics, I hadn't even heard of Kroenen until two hours ago when I watched the first movie for the first time. The moment he came on stage, I turned to Josef (one of my nazi headpeople) and we said 'Oh yes, I like this one!'
I still barely know the character, only from the movie and his Wiki article. Where should I look so as to get better aquainted with the fellow? Because I try never to let a hot guy get away, especially if he is steampunk, masocistic and a nazi to boot (that's all the boxes ticked right there), having a surgical fetish just makes it even better.

So, what do you say? Where's the best place to catch him?

I joined to this community a couple days ago and I'm a huge Kroenen fan (surprise!!) from Finland. :)
I have seen the movie many times but I haven't read the Hellboy comic book series yet. I have only read Hellboy: Weird Tales Vol. 1 and I loaned it from library. heh.

So.. is the Hellboy comic book series worth of reading and is Kroenen going to be in the new Hellboy movie?

Guten Tag everybody,
I am a big Kroenen fan from germany and just found this journal when googling this great character...

I hope to find some help here, because at the moment I am working on a Kroenen 1:1 Film Mask since the Sideshow once are too expensive for me ;).

My problem is that I do not have any good reference pictures of the mask or any dimensions.... I only have some pictures from spaceart.com and some pictures from the movie, but no real sideview or frontview pics...

Would be nice if someone could help me out, who maybe has a sideshow version at home or who has some kind of blueprints.

At the moment I only have a fiberglas mask that fits to my face, and now I have to refine it so that it looks like a Kroenen mask.

This community needs some life..and prehaps some one would like to do a story for the mag...

Kroenen's surgical addiction and the ugliness beneath the mask

1. I'm a movie fan, and I know that the comic Kroenen is very different, but did the comic one have a surgical addiction, or that mutilated face beneath the mask too? ...because if that was solely the work of the director, then Guillermo del Toro is a genius not just for the style and the added coolness, but the added symbolism as well.

2. Does anyone else here have a 'nazi fetishism', in terms of finding the nazi uniform very stylishly sexy? ...starving people, through fashion or force, is never sexy, so not only do I not condone what the nazis did in the concentration camp to those the government did not approve of, I find it a turn off. I do like again, the uniform, the elegance, the power, and the punctuality!

...Kroenen really dresses beautifully, moves beautifully too. (This is very apparent in dollyface89's Kroenen fan video...once the right music, Moi Dix Moi's 'Deflower' started playing of course.) Kroenen is very skilled, a force of deadly elegance, mechanically apt, and I think he's a doctor too?

Yet for all his attractive traits which would have made him the kinda man one wants to keep, what is also there is horror and ugliness. Intellectually, there is our knowledge that he uses his powers for evil instead of good, he was Hitler's assassin and he worked to bring about the world as we know it to a much worser end. Viscerally though, what had the greatest impact, what really shakes us from the admiration of his grace, at least for that moment, is that 'autopsy' scene; The horrific state of his face, which he did to himself. Surgical addiction, his dissatisfaction with the natural part of his body. Karl Ruprecht Kroenen is NAZI Germany.

Ideas come at the oddest time. I hadn't gotten any inspiration from Kroenen in a long time, but something suddenly came up this morning while I was waking up. You know one of those half conscious and half asleep ideas that come through. Not only had I had poor Kroenen inspiration but my writing's been slow in my other fanfics,too. Not only that, I can't even find myself to finish off the first part of my Kro fic, Wake the Dead. It just seemed to die, but it's still there in my head once in a while. I do want to finish it, but I don't know if I can. Now the thing is, should I even think of pursuing this new idea? What was the idea? Well, I had the image of young Kroenen's face being burned by some woman in an abusive situation, because he had a "beautiful" face. I can follow it and bring something out of this, maybe something short. I even thought of an opening hook, "She was ugly, so damned ugly." But I can't be certain that it will turn out like Wake the Dead.

Any good writer's out there with a simular situation or advise? Maybe a beta reader?

Well, at long last, my ridiculously large hat showed up and I can finally put this project to rest. Of course, I had to take pictures!

I apologize for the poor quality - it's quite difficult to take pictures of yourself in a studio apartment while wearing twenty pounds of leather and a pseudo-gimp mask. And the relics of my days at Disneyland, too.

On the script:
The script is evolving EXACTLY as it was “pitched” there is one “minor major” change, but until the script gets approved it would be pandemonium to reveal it...NO Nazi involvement on this one. Just a tiny flash of Kroenen and one pal. But is barely a vignette. I AM thinking of HB III and hope we can make it an all-pulp extravaganza!! I leave two strong character storylines open at the end of HBII´s script so we can explore stuff.

I've been lurking for awhile now, making random comments, and I thought I'd say hello.
I saw Hellboy a while ago, and as soon as I saw
Kroenen in the first scene I took a liking to him. (It was the coat. And the mask. And the knives. Mostly the knives.) Next thing on my list is to read the comics.
And when we were going over World War II in my history class, I offered to bring in my SS Kroenen figure as a visual aid. My history teacher now thinks I am insane. ^_^
