brand new member, and i've been asked to post a hair tutorial i did for a friend (that i reposted inhimegyaru) in HERE, so i'm posting. i hope you guys find it helpful!
SO!! speaking of loving to play with hair n stuff, my friend asked me to do a tutorial for hime-gyaru style hair, so for the picture portion, i'm gonna post this tutorial, which i hope you guys find helpful!!! I didn't do the normal prep to poof up the hair first, because i honestly didn't know about it T_T and i just made up this tutorial by looking at pictures and trying it out myself, so sorry it's not totally complete!!! and another note, i have really thin hair so it doesn't look as big and awesome as some of those girls at jesus diamante. but i really do hope it helps!! :]
things you will need:
1. hair spray.
2. teaser comb.
3. curling iron. duh!!! mine's probably 1.25" or 1.5" or something. you'll need something bigger than 1 inch for sure. haha phallic! you know you love it.
Alright, listen up. this is what you do:
1. gather a thin layer of your hair from the top of your head, around 2in. wide right where the bangs stop. it should be around .5 inches thick, no more than that.
see? thin.
2. hair spray it down, from top to bottom. spray more at the roots than the rest of the hair.
3. tease!!! i only tease about the bottom 2-3" from my roots. if you tease all of it, it'll just look like a big knotty mess. which is good most of the time, but not when you're curling your hair.
4. flip the hair you just teased forward and gather the next line of hair. again, around .5 in. thick. spray it down.
5. tease again!!
continue to do this until you get to the middle of the back of your head. this is to give you the much needed volume you'll need!
6. now, do the same thing, except you're gonna do the side of you head. spray the underside, and tease the underside. if you tease from the top, it looks messy. do this till right above the ear on BOTH SIDES. remember, you have TWO SIDES of the head. unless you want to look like a schizo freak, do both sides.
7. volume!!! yey!!
8. now, you're gonna start curling. take a lock of your hair framing your face, starting around just above your temples.
9. clamp iron from the bottom, turning the iron up. the direction is like, away from your face/body.
10. see? awayyyyyyyyy.
11. work your way down to right above the ear. then you go further back on the head, and do the same motion over and over until you get all of it.
12. remember, curl UP and AWAY from the face. if you find yourself turning iron towards your face, OMFG U-TURN!!!
13. you should have something like THIS when you're done with one side. i understand your hair can be shorter, but you should get a similar effect as long as you work your way from top to bottom, turning away. spray the entire side.
14. now, i'm giving the hair on the top of my head some volume. i put the barrel close to the root (and only the root, don't roll it all the way up to the tip of the hair) and again, clamp it rolling away from the face. it's okay to iron the matted teased portion. it gives it nice volume.
15. time to do the other side!! up and away! up and away!!
16. lalala... after you're done with that side, spray that side down also.
now you're done with the curling. the other side mighta gotten a little flat, so you might need to touch up.
17. when the curls look okay to you, you have to separate the curls gently with your fingers and roll them into place with your hands. on your right side, turn your curls clockwise, left side, counter clockwise. your goal here is to lump the curls up as much as possible.
18. was that tricky? sorta. now you add more volume to the top of your head, since it probably went flat. spray some more, tease some more, being careful you don't mess up your curls. take the tip of your comb and separate the hair so that it's evenly spread, as little clumps as possible.
19. if you did that right, you should get something like this.
now, accessorize!!! add bows, pearls, clothes, etc!!
20. TADA!!!!! done!!!
and to compare....
you can always tweak this tutorial, add the prep (put crown of head in rollers) etc, and nothing i say is in cement, but just a guide. and i also got a tip fromplastickitten to back comb the curls after they're done to give them more volume, which i think is a GREAT idea!! she's smart and beautiful, so yes, take that advice! i just wanted to help out some people who were like "!!! i can't read japanese! T_T" haha.
