FO: Hedera Socks
Socks finished! A somewhat late birthday/mother's day gift for... well, my mom.

Pattern: Hedera
Yarn: Regia Silk, color 53
Needles: Addi Turbos Size 1 (magic looped)
Mods: None.

Notes: I was originally planning to make these toe up, but I became enamoured of the way the gusset looks. So top down it was. I found starting the magic loop process with 60 stitches stitches much more fiddly - I had more difficulty controlling the sock until I was an inch or two into it. New experience.

The pattern is easy to memorize and really fun once you get to the body of the foot. But by the time you get there, it's almost over!

The yarn. Oh the yarn. I love Regia Silk. It is soft, it's a joy to work with, and it's soft. I am hoping that the yarn I have leftver is enough for footie type socks, at least. My one complaint is that the yarn seems to fuzz up a little. I'm not sure if it's a result of being shoved and carried around unceremoniously in my backpack or if it's simply the nature of the yarn. It is my hope that the fuzz I see now doesn't get worse when they are washed.

And if the socks look small on my feet, it's because they are. :)

And a sexy gusset shot.

Those are fantastic!!!

I'm getting ready to start a pair of Hedera myself, using Knit Picks Essential.

You did quite a lovely job. The solid color really makes the pattern stand out. Would you recommend this pattern with something a bit more variegated, such as Trekking XXL?

I'm afraid all I see is blue text, no link.

How weird is that? In my first reply I don't see any link OR blue text. I linked the URL in the second reply and that works for me. If it doesn't for you, go to http://sarkasmo.blogspot.com/2006/06/die-socken-sind-fertig.html

Ah thank you. :) They're beautiful! And you're right, I don't see any reason not to knit them in variegated yarn.

Also, your kitten looks part stormcloud. So cute!

Beautifull socks!
I only have experience with opal silk, which essentially is the same as I have heard - after a gentle handwashing, it GREW insanely, and they almost died after being machine washed (hand wash cycle), the yarn is hard, stiff, looks ratty and pills now.

All in all not something that makes me recommend that yarn :(

But be carefull, treat it like a heirloom shawl when washing it, and you should be fine... that is just not what I am looking for in socks :)
