My dice will be so happy

My revolt against boring dicebags... To do this weekend... Go to store... buy a zipper... sew in zipper...  Fill with dice... threaten to throw it at friends...

ETA: Okay.... PATTERN.. The trickiest thing about it is that you need an equilateral triangle....

**NOTE*** This pattern has been added to Ravelry (called D4 Shaped Dicebag).  My ravelry name is also "klayre53."

And then you take the length you want the edge to be and using your guage figure out how many stitches to cast on.
To figure out the height you do: (the length of the edge/2)*(square root of 3) and use your guage to figure out how many rows you want
Then figuring out decreases:
Take the number of rows you need-1 to get the number of rows available for decrease
Take the number of stitches you have cast on-2 for the number of stitches you need to decrease. Divide that in half to find the number of rows you need to use for decreases (decrease 1 st at each edge of row...)
Take the total number of rows total / the number of rows in which you need to decrease to find out how often you need to decrease.
If you get say... every 2.5 rows then alternate decreasing every 2nd and 3rd row, if it's 2.25 than every 2nd row three times and every 3rd row once. I round this number to the nearest quarter to make this easier and it doesn't mess with the accuracy any more than blocking can fix.
Cast off by doing a k2tog, or if you have 3 sts left: k2tog,k1,pass over.
Knit four of them. Embroider on the numbers with thread. Crochet them together. Add a zipper.
Also... this is presented for personal use only.

That may be the geekiest knitted item I've ever seen. And I mean that in the nicest possible way. (-:

Would it be geeker if I told you I bothered to write a spreadsheet in MS Excel that would automatically generate the pattern for an equilateral triangle because I couldn't be bothered to use dig out my trusty TI-83 (aka the only calculator I have) if I want to do another one at a different guage.

I think I just had a thought that might (barely) out-geek you.

One needs a bag to carry their character sheets, pencils, and dice bag in.

Make a larger one, line the inside, and attach a strap to two opposing points... and you then have a "die bag" to carry your "dice bag" and other needful gaming gear.

... must make dice bag... must...

when you get a chance, could you post your pattern? This wouldn't make a bad gift to my gamer friends.

I think quite a few of the people who commented before us would definitely like the pattern as well...

Be kind to your fellow gamerknitters!

Oh. My. LORD. That is fan-freaking-TASTIC. Holy Jesus MR PANTS. I am awed.

And a little curious at the apparent existence of gaming knitters. Heehee!
I might have to make one myself... the dice bag I sewed years ago is a bit on the falling-apart side.

Whee, facets of geekdom coinciding-- I both knit and game. In fact, I knit while I game. :D So good to know that there are more of us!

Pattern, pretty please?

OMG it's fantastic! Are you willing to share the pattern!?

I've been combining knitting and gaming in my own way lately. My only current source of income is doing custom knit and crochet work for members of the LARP I go to. I'm currently doing a flame themed patchwork cloak. *grin* H'ray for knitting-obsessed gamer geeks! We rock!

I've been watching this community quietly for a bit, but I must speak up... that is one awesome dice bag.

*looks at all the comments* And look at what started - the gamer knit society. *giggles* When geek-societies match up. Hee! I'm going to have to show this around work. I know a few people that will beg for one of those.

OMG. My inner (and outer) geek is jumping up and down for joy. Of course, I showed this to my husband, who also plays D&D, and he gave me "the look." "The look" generally means something like, "Oh, great. Something else to add to your knitting obsession. You crazy woman." Oh, well. He loves me anyway.

I am so making one of these. That is wonderful, and I salute you.

Awesome. I applaud your dice bag skillz. XD Now I have to make some for my group, and I just realized the PERFECT gift for my friend's upcoming baby...

dice blocks. Dude. Just make a lining and stuff it with foam, and sew the thing up. MUCH more appropriate for gamer kids than the pastel blocks and balls you see in the store. :D
