FO's-Clapotis & Pinwheel Baby Blanket
I have some FO's that I've been meaning to post for awhile. I finally got new batteries for the digital camera, so I finally have pictures to post.

First is Clapotis. I looooooooooved this pattern. I wasn't sure if I would, so knit this first one using Caron Simply Soft Brites in Watermelon, Blue Mint, Limelight, and Grape. I will definitely knit another Clapotis or two--I'm especially looking forward to doing another one for myself in a better, more luxurious yarn.

Please excuse the way I look in this next one...it was a long day.

The Pinwheel baby blanket was made with Bernat Softee Baby in Soft Lilac. The edging was done in leftover Caron Simply Soft in Grape. It ended up a little smaller than I would've liked (about 2.5 feet across), but I loved the pattern. I'll definitely do this one again.

Thanks for looking! :-)

ETA: Forgot pictures of the blanket the first time.

ETA Part Deux: Adding link to blanket pattern because of all the requests: http://www.knitlist.com/00gift/round-baby-blanket.htm

Your clapotis is Beautiful! I've debating on starting this. And the blanket's also beautiful too, my favorite color.

Love them. Making me want to take a stab at the clapotis. Unfortunately, I'm a BRAND NEW - yah that new - knitter. I find myself having real problems trying to read the patterns.

Hand me a hook and a crochet pattern, or even a hook and measurements and I can make anything. Heh...26 years crocheting...three months knitting. *griamce*

But...I'm loving that clapotis you made. The contrasting stripes - with the colors changing in one direction and the holes in the other direction...it's just utterly striking. I'm so wanting to make that. heh...maybe one of these days :-)

It's a terrific pattern ... not all that difficult, really. The only things other than knit and purl are yarn over, knit two together, and knitting through the back loop instead of the front. It's VERY easy, you should give it a try, it's fun!

The only part of that that I've not done is knitting through the back loop, but it makes perfect sense. It's more deciphering the pattern that has me intimidated.

I know it looks a little intimidating because it's long, but really, it's not at all. You really get into a groove and you don't need to look at the instructions every row. It's very fun!

I just printed the pattern out and am looking at it. Things like pfb are a little confusing, but I'm sure I can find the description for the abbreviation.

I'm checking to see if the 10 hanks of shimmer I have will work for this. I would love to use it, though I think it might be a little on the light-weight size for this. It would be utterly lovely, though, if it would work.

Yes, I'm seriously considering trying it...would be my second, ever, knitting project if I do it, though. *laughs*

One word of caution, most folks who have done it have found that 600 yards is not really enough! I bought a seventh ball of yarn for mine just in case and I'm really glad ... it wasn't looking like I was going to probably make it. If you want you can leave out a couple of repeats in the straight section though to make it shorter if you can't get more of the yarn you have.

PFB is really easy .. purl through the front like you normally would but don't slide the stitch off the left needle. Put your right needle through the back loop of the same stitch and purl again, then slide it off onto the right needle. It stretches the hell out of the stitch so it feels weird the first few times you do it. Same theory for knit front and back.

Hrm...well, I have 6 hanks of Wool of the Ande's, since it's natural and I would most likely hand dye it, I could order one more if the 6 I have aren't enough. It's not dead on scale, but close.

As for PFB, I'll give it a shot - have to say though that I have a feeling I'm going to be driving the girls at the local S-N-B nuts. heh

Well you'll want to swatch anyhow to make sure you are using the right size of needles, so throw a couple practice YOs and PFBs and all that in there, that's what I did and it helped. I had never done some of the stitches before either.

Don't fear the patterns. They never make sense to me when I read them, either. Just start knitting, follow the instructions step by step, and it'll all become clear.

I was intimidated by the Clapotis pattern at first, but it really looks much more complex than it is. Using stitch markers makes it super easy. You should totally try it--you'll love it!

**grins** it's actually reading the pattern that has me crossing my eyes.

I've done knits, purls and yarn overs and k2tog for the bag I'm making from a beginner's knitting book. But I looked at that clappy pattern and my brain just kinda shut down. Maybe I should do it with needles and yarn in hand. :-)

Stick to one line at a time for awhile. Looking ahead can be too intimidating for a beginner knitter. Just take it one line at a time.

Your clapotis reminds me of a beach towel. It's cute!

My boyfriend says that my WIP clapotis reminds him of tropical skittles that someone faded in the sun.

The pattern is from here: http://www.knitlist.com/00gift/round-baby-blanket.htm

I definitely recommend using stitch markers...it makes it a lot easier to just knit along--especially when your stitch count gets up into the hundreds.

Did weaving in the ends drive you insane at all?

I like the blankie too... It's all spiraly

Oh, I thought the weaving in ends was just going to drive me insane--about halfway through I realized I hadn't thought that part out too well. It was actually okay though--I was on an "FO high," which made the task not so bad.

The first time I saw the pinwheel blanket, I sort of set my sites on it to use if I ever have to knit a baby blanket. How long did it take you to finihs? I hope noone has any babies for a while, I'm still working on the Hombre Alpaca blanket from Last-Minute Knitted Gifts, and once I finish it I will be all blanketed out for a while.

Ahhh, Thank YOU!!! I was looking at some of the blue mint and lime light for a clapotis last night and my husband looked at me like I had my head screwed on backwards! Now I have something for him to look at and realize those "interesting" colors aren't as bad as he thought!

I've been trying to get started on the pinwheel blanket for a few days now, i'm having trouble with so few stitches on the DPNs!!! I plan on trying again later this evening, after the kids are in bed. Especially after seeing yours, it looks awesome!! My baby girl is due in October so I need to get it going ;)

My biggest problem with the blanket was getting started on the dpn's w/so few stitches. I solved that by starting on circs using magic loop and then moved to dpn's when I had 20 stitches. It worked very well.
