We expect to focus a lot on knitting and crocheting, but are open to discussions about any kind of craft work, including tatting, sewing, blackwork, costume making, cross stitch, jewelry making, etc. Basically, if you make stuff using sticks and string, or shiny little rocks with holes in 'em, or somesuch, you can talk about it here. PLEASE NO SELLING STUFF. While it is okay to let people know about out an occasional swap or convention or something of this ilk, I prefer not to have posts about people selling or trading items. What can I post?You can post anything having to do with pirates. Whether factual or fictional, we welcome treasures, theories, and theories about where to find treasures!. Also, pictures, questions and historical info. And -- of course -- any questions, comments, stories, etc. having to do with crafting. The main thing is to have fun! We want to hear about your pirate music! We want to hear about your drinking songs and pirate crews -- and your knitting, crocheting, sewing, latchhooking, embroidery, costume-making, etc! Post about your parties and your RPs! Let us know what you know about real-life pirates and the history of piracy on the high seas. Does it all have to be Pirate-themed?No, not at all. Just having an interest in pirates is all that we ask. We hope you'll share pics and stories of your finished objects (FOs) and works in progress (WIPs) and that we'll get to talk about all sorts of crafting media and topics. Please keep in mind, this is a family-oriented community. Is there anything I CAN'T post?Yes, there are a few things that are not acceptable. - No selling or trading. - No nude/porn pictures, userpics or links. (Some nudity in art may be allowed, depending on the artwork, context, etc. Please ask first.) Please keep in mind, this is a family-oriented community. - No actual piracy. By this we mean: Do not post copyrighted material without permission and without crediting the creator. This includes other people's icons, userpics and art, and ALL CRAFT PATTERNS. If pattern was published on a commercial Web site, post a link to the original site. If published in a book or magazine, post a link to the amazon.com book listing or the publisher's site. If the pattern is no longer available for purchase (the original Web site is gone, the book is out of print, etc.), DO NOT RECREATE IT IN YOUR POST. IT IS PROBABLY STILL PROTECTED BY COPYRIGHT. We will not tolerate intellectual piracy (plagiarism) in this community. Anyone caught claiming someone else's work as their own will be excluded from the community immediately. - No flaming, trolling or otherwise abusive language or manners. You will be warned once. A second offense will result in exclusion from the community. What other rules are there?- Please place all pics/photos of your FOs (finished objects) and WIPs (works in progress) behind LJ cuts. If you need a refresher on using LJ cuts, click here for help. - Please also use LJ-Cut for posts longer than a dozen lines. Long posts eat up a lot of real estate on someone's "friends' page," and there is no way for someone to delete individual posts. Be kind. (Trust us. People who want to read the rest of your post will click the LJ-Cut link.) - Please, if you must cross-post, please use LJ-Cut tag to hide the bulk of your post. And be sure to note that the post is "x-posted." Remember, someone who has friended multiple communities may see your post repeated over and over again on his/her friends page. Best to keep it as short and simple as possible. (Also, please be advised that some LJ communities forbid cross-posts and will smack you if you cross-post. Don't say we didn't warn you.) - Quizzes and memes are fine as long as they related to the theme of the community. If the source is online, please provide a brief quote and a link to the original site. If you truly MUST quote extensively from a text that is not online, please quote the work accurately and give full credit, including information so someone else can track down the same book, magazine, etc. As explained above, we will not tolerate intellectual piracy (plagiarism) in this community. What about a pattern that I found for free online? That means it's not copyrighted, right? Can I post it?Actually, a pattern doesn't have to be distributed commercially to be protected by copyright -- and it may not even have to have a copyright notice. Play it safe and DO NOT COPY OTHER PEOPLE'S PATTERNS IN YOUR POSTS. Instead, please post a link to the original site where the creator provided the pattern for free. What about a pattern that I found and revised? That means I own the rights to it, right?Maybe, maybe not. We're not lawyers and we're not going to advise you, but our understanding is that a pattern would need to be significantly changed in order to be considered a unique (original) work. Frankly, we'd rather not have to deal with even POTENTIALLY plagiaristic posts in this community. So please DON'T post patterns that you based on someone else's work. Instead, tell us where to find the original pattern and what you did to "make it your own." After all, crafty people love to add their own touch/style when working on a piece ... and we're all about the craft here. Okay, all aboard? Well, get to it, then!
