AboutThis is a community for anyone interested in learning how to and discussing the art of knitting with like-minded Knit Wits. ;) A growing list of basic topics and other mini-lessons and their dates (once completed) can be found on the Knit Wits' To Do List. We also post reviews of knitting books (see below) as well as details of our members' various LYS Field Trips (some of which are linked to in "Knitting Sites We Like" below) -- Knit Wits, bringing you the knitting world, one LYS at a time!

The Knitting Garden -- Based in Uxbridge, MA; wonderful, friendly service and a lovely online selection of luxury yarn and patterns. :)
Rowan Knitting -- website for a yarn company based in the UK with stores worldwide. They have fabulous yarns that are lovely to work with, as well as gorgeous pattern books for all levels and a schedule of classes for those of you lucky enough to be in the area.
Knitty.com -- Cool and funky designs for the modern knitter; designs for projects can be submitted for posting (although, at the time of writing, this is done on a no fee basis, so don't expect to make a mint -- or even enough money for a breath mint! -- with your submission); good tips, too!
Atypicallyknit.com -- How could we forget the great Hogwarts scarf site? :) Apparently, there are Quidditch socks in the works now, too.
Pluckyfluff.com -- Hand-spun yarns that are one of a kind. For all you left-of-centre knitters who are looking for really original, one of a kind yarns, there is some really lovely, funky stuff here.
MagKnits -- offers free patterns and a monthly e-newsletter, among other things. This sight seems fairly new, so there may be more to come.
ChicKnits -- has free patterns, as well as some for sale. The site also host the owner's knitting blog, photos of her finished projects, and helpful advice and hints in the TEKtalk section.
The Yarn Company -- A must-stop yarn shop for any knitters in or passing through NYC. They have a great selection of yarns. It's a pity they don't take internet orders. Orders can be taken the old fashioned way, over the phone, however.
The Yarn Market -- Another place with a wonderful selection of luxury and novelty yarns, and a great place to find much-needed accessories that your local yarn store (or LYS) may not have. And for those of you who might be outside of the US, they ship internationally to any UPS destination.
Modeknit.com -- A wonderful site that gives great demos for learning the Combined Method of knitting. Great for left-handed knitters, too.
Stitchguide.com -- "The most complete online stitch reference." Also has plenty of helpful videos (using Quicktime).
The Wool Shack -- For all you Aussie knitters in particular, but for anyone else who appreciates lovely quality wool and advice online.
Yarnela -- Canadian website. Based in Ontario, this company is a good online yarn resource, particularly for those of you searching for just the right shade of Kureyon. ;) Shipping is free for orders over US$25.00. Payment is by Paypal or email + money order.
Alchemy Yarns -- A beautiful selection of artisanal yarns that come in the most remarkable panoply of shades and colour blends, and in lovely and eclectic materials from alpaca to bamboo!
Artfibers -- Based in San Francisco, CA. Unique hand-painted yarns from a company whose mission statement is to nurture the creative dimension. See more on Artfibers here.
Glenmarle Woolworks -- Princeton's Largest and Oldest Knitting Shop is a lovely place to lose yourself in. An array of luxury yarns to make your head spin. Friendly staff. Mail orders taken. More here.
Yarn Paradise -- Based in Asheville, NC, among the shops at Biltmore Village. A great selection of yarns and project ideas. No online shop for the moment, but phone orders are taken. More here!
Kaleidoscope Yarns -- There's more to see in Vermont than mountains and Ben & Jerry. This is a terrific online store with a great selection of gorgeous yarn and an extremely helpful and friendly staff headed by the owner, Jill.
Lorna's Laces -- An amazing array of yarns and colourways. You'll have to check it out to see for yourself. And there's a bit more on Lorna's Laces here. :)
Knit Happens -- Based in Alexandria, VA, this lovely shop is billed as "Nirvana for Knitters" -- and they're not kidding! Wonderful, friendly and enthusiastic staff and walls FULL of Noro, Rowan, Colinette and others. More on this must-see (stop and) shop here.
Knit New York -- One part food and drink + one part yarn porn = the hippest coffee spot in town. You've got to see it to believe it.
Garden District Needle Workshop -- On Magazine Street in a lovely antiques section of New Orleans, lies a cornucopia of supplies for the resurrected crafts of knitting and other needlework. Read more about this LYS Field Trip here.
Bette Bornside Company -- Also in New Orleans, just outside the French Quarter, you'll find this yarn store that has customer service all sewn up! US shipping (normal post) is free for orders over $35; they operate a magnanimous Reserve-a-Skein service; and free test-knit length samples of any yarn can be requested through the mail for you to try before you buy. Read more here. :)
Philosopher's Wool -- A great resource for non-allergenic, organically produced wools in rich colours. The site also provide a fabulous video demonstrating knitting fair isle in the round (at the moment, for fast internet connection speeds only).
Sweaterscapes -- has some terrific tutorials and a fabulous style section -- perfect for the Knit Wit Fashionista! Think of it as a knitting reference with attached yarn shop. :)
FuzzyMabel.com -- This online shop carries ENTIRE LINES of their luxury yarns and also offers a "Fuzzy Dozen" -- buy 12 balls of any yarn and get another one free, in that yarn or a luxury yarn of Fuzzy Mabel's choice (and with the choices they have, you really can't go wrong).
