    Michael's at South Keys
    Hey peoples,

Just thought I would post a little tidbit of information. It seems Michael's (or at least the one at South Keys) is having a yarn sale. Where a lot of their yarns are being sold for 2/9.99$ or 2/7.99$ some of the items included the wools too. Also they have a clearance rack up in the corner near the yarns of Bernat Barella 4, final selling price of 1.49$. So for you girls who like to do the charitable knitting this time of year, I thought that would be a piece of good news.

    Peace

    free crochet book
    hey folks,
I'm cleaning out my bookcase and I have a 1970s crochet book that I'm going to get rid of. It's got patterns varrying from kids to men/women to home decor. It's in the format of a little binder and it's as thick as a phone book.
The first person who's willing to pick it up (i'll leave it in my mailbox in Chinatown) can can have it.

Knitting at the pub -- tonight!
    Hi folks!

Here's a reminder that some folks from our group will be knitting and doing other crafts at the Elmdale Tavern this evening. It's easily accessible from the #2 Bus, and it's in the mechanicsville neighbourhood.

Happy Earth Day! Enjoy some non-petroleum organic vegan yarns!

    Location:
1084 Wellington Street West in Hintonburg
    City/Town:
    Ottawa, ON

The Elmdale Tavern (http://elmdaletavern.com/) is a fabulous find and sure to be the next neighborhood place you go to bump into people you know. This is an old-school tavern with lots of space, live music, a coin-op pool table, and local, organic Beau's beer on tap.

I thought it would be a great place to go knit in public, so this is the call-out. It might be a bit risque, since we'll likely be the first knitters to make an appearance there, but I emailed them and they are more than happy to have us. They've got the usual non-alc bar options including pop and juice but not alot of food beyond chips and strange pickled things on the counter, however they are accommodating to those who bring their own take-out or even get delivery, if you don't eat dinner before-hand.

And if Beau's beer isn't enough to get you in the Earth Day spirit, here are a couple of enviro-friendly patterns to get you inspired:

    Introduction
    HI Everyone!

I just wanted to say thank you for letting me join and I also wanted to introduce myself.

I'm Ken and am about to go into my fourth year in English and Women' studies. I am very much into activism and social justice and especially craft work, whether it is knitting, sewing, beer making, cheese making or any other project where something amazing comes from a simple repeated stitch. I don't want to overstate this, but I think that one of the few things available to counter the negativity, the greed, and the oppression we find in society today is our creativity. For me, creative expression, whether it is writing or knitting is the one form where I feel empowered, positive and human. This is what gives it such potential as activism because the urge to create is an expression of the human spirit and by doing this in public it is a statement of resistance. Is that too much- I do tend to ramble on.

Knitting has such potential as activism because 1. it is hardly ever done, so it is still unique and 2. it is a peaceful, creative act that none the less expresses a different approach to life. 3. Its hard to ignore vast quantities of people all sitting around knitting. All of these give knitting its potential both on small scales and on larger ones.

I am a very beginning knitter and am still working on my first scarf- but to be fair it is 40 stitches across :) I hope we can meet up and hang out sometime. I tend to go to the Bridgehead at Bank and Gilmour.

See you all soon- and I promise I am not this dramatic in real life :)

    Socializing???
Anyone interested in getting together for a few hours Monday or Tuesday afternoon/evening for some socializing with crafting. I was thinking of maybe hitting up one of the Bridgeheads either the one we go to off Bank or the one off Elgin to work on some jewellry pieces without being tempted to go play on one of the comps at home.

    Let me know

    Just wanted to say hello!
Hi everyone! I haven't been to a gathering in ages and I am just popping in to say hello and that I'd like to go to the next one, which I hope is going to happen soon! I haven't been knitting much, but will have to be soon because I am knitting a womb for a project for one of my Women's Studies classes ;) I ordered some Lamb's Pride pink wool for it from WEBS and it is so soft (my first time knitting with Lamb's Pride)! Hope to see you lovely ladies soon!

    Sorry I can't be there

I wish I could go to the knitting session but  this time I will have to skip out. I am meeting two people on thursday. It seems like you have a regular place you go to but would anyone ever consider switching the location around so thta people who are not near the downtown area are not always having ot travel all the time? Just a suggestion.

I don't know much about the meetings or the members here in the group yet. Are most of the members here around the downtown area?

Anyways maybe I can meet up with you another time.

    Have fun ladies!

Also it is nice to see that people are posting in here again.

    Take care all.

    Valentine's Day is For Knitters?
    Hello my yarn-loving friends!

Would any of you be interested in knitting at a café this Thursday? What better way to express your love for crafts than by loving-up some wool while sipping a no-caf soy latté or crunching on some cinnamon hearts at your favourite fair-trade coffee joint? You could knit or crochet something snuggly for yourself or a sweetheart...

Please RSVP and we can discuss a location and time.

    Events
I have made a few scarfs and hats. The baby sweater is my first major project. So far so good except some of the shaping for the neck hole. I find that sort of shaping more difficult. I also have to make botton holes which I have never done before either. This sweater will be a learning experience for sure.

I was self-taught. Some really great books are," teach yourself vusually to knit,"and "Knitiing for Dummies." Great books. I have never read it but "Stitch N Bitch" is suppose to be really good as well.

I was wonderign when was the last time this group had an event..  It would be fun to have one.

    Hey fellow knitters
     Hey Knitters!

    Take care.

    A long-overdue gathering!
    Dear friends and strangers,

I propose that we get our knit on at the Bridgehead that's in Hintonburg(i.e. 1277 Wellington St., at Caroline). THIS THURSDAY, October 25th. It's on the #2 bus line and just a bit West of the Tunney's Pasture transitway station.

I'll be there around 8pm and will stay till 9:00 or 9:30. Feel free to arrive earlier or later, but they close at 10. Whoever gets there first should try to snag the biggest available seating area.

If you're not working on a knit or crochet project, feel free to come anyway to socialise and get inspiration. It's cold out and it's time to make the season's fresh batch of woolies!

    Knit-a-long?
    Dear friends,
would anyone want to do a knit-a-long with me to this pattern?
    http://knitty.com/ISSUEfall07/PATTwoodins.html
I think it's darling, and I thinking it would be right at home on my sofa as a lumbar pillow.

What are y'all doing Wednesday night? Anyone want to get together and knit with me? It doesn't need to be on this pattern. I just feel like I'm not knitting much lately (ok... at all) and it would be nice to really casually engage socially and make it happen.

    meeting location
Hi, sorry I haven't been able to go to the last few meetings, I wasn't feeling well and had no internet access this weekend.
I was wondering if anyone would be willing to host a gathering at their place. Everyone could bring something. Or we could meet in a park?

    Holiday Monday?
Does anyone want to knit in the evening on the Holiday Monday - July 2nd? I'd be available from 8pm(ish) onwards. I like the idea of meeting on Mondays at the new Bridgehead on Dalhousie.
