First working maquette

First off, thanks to everyone for waiting these past couple of weeks as I finished up school :) Now I am more or less free for Kissybook stuff.

I have been productive however! Here are a couple of pics to show what I've been up to:

More photos behind the cut... )

They're not great great photos, but hopefully you all have an idea :) There are still a lot of design problems and I haven't yet added on names and websites yet, so if you still need to send me that information, do so ASAP!! Currently on the cover is Noko's submission, but I'm not 100% sure if I will use the image (too redundant?) or any image that is in the book. I might just produce a design or a drawing myself, I'm not sure yet. Thoughts?

This maquette cost me a lot of money (@_@; I don't want to say how much. Next I will be finding a good printer that will hopefully do it for much less! Any leads on Vancouver output centres would be awesome. Also, a question: within what price range would you think a book like this should go for?

The moment you've all been waiting for...?

Here is the list of selected entries for the book.

More comments from me later.  It is 4AM here and I really need to sleep (@_@;;;

Finally, some news.

Hey guys, sorry for the long period of silence (O_O;; It is once again dreaded finals at school and so my time has been consumed with finishing off projects (such as this one!) and critiques and I've hardly had time to check my email.

First off, I wanted to show off some postcards that I made for Kissybook Promotion:

More pictures behind the cut.... )

I might upload the files for download if any of you actually want to go to the trouble of printing and distributing them. I'm normally pretty picky about the file handling of print ephemera, but if you know how to make them look anything remotely like the images in the photos, I would totally appreciate that :)

I also made maquettes for myself so I would know what the book looked like, and to be able to use as a model to show printing places... see the maquettes and process here! )

Now, as for the news you would all like to know I have selected the fifty (out of about 105 total) entries that will be featured in the first Kissybook. I still have to draft up a list, but there are a few other things I have to deal with first (like a whole load of outstanding emails) before I can do this. I will however try to get to it ASAP, and explain the selection criteria just so it's out in the open. Out in the open, as in behind this cut. )

Anyways, I hope that all sounds fair! In any case, all of the entries are online in the gallery.

The next step is to design the book and create a couple of working maquettes with the actual content inside of them. This is hopefully going to happen by the coming Tuesday. Depending on how busy I am, I will try to post photos ASAP (I have two other projects due Wed as well as a party to go to, and a 1500-word critical essay on Thurs). After that, I find a place to print them (200 of them!) and then while that's happening, arrange an online store, and a book launch party :D Yay!

Wish me luck! Leave comments and post all you want, I'll try to get back to you when I can.

Slow Kissybook Website Updates

Hey guys,

I don't know how many of you on the community gave in submissions this last week or so. Just to let you know though, I'm swamped with them right now and with school and I'm being kind of slow at processing and updating them! If your entry is not there, try again after tomorrow and hopefully they'll all be there. Sorry!

Some News....

First off, apologies to people whose thumbnails didn't show up in the thumbnail gallery. Some changes have been made, and so now you can double-check again to see if your entry is there. If you submitted within the last couple days, yours might not be up yet, but everything else should more or less me be there. If your file is somehow still missing, let me know :)

Second, a question: are there artists out there that you guys admire that you'd like to see submit to Kissybook? And if so, who, or what, would you like to see kissing your entry? I have been thinking of possibly soliciting some illustrators to submit stuff, but I also kind of feel this would make it kind of unfair for everyone who found it and submitted on their own, and I don't want to seem like I am biased to professional artists over amateur ones -- I'd prefer to have a mix, which we already have. Thoughts?

What about for in the future, making different editions of Kissybooks? If the first book is successful, I am thinking of making more. Is the open concept working? This is a highly hypothetical question, because who knows what is going to happen after this. Would you guys keep submitting entries even if they aren't going to be published, and only put on the website?

Currently, I think I have 71 submissions. That's pretty exciting. Maybe we'll get over 100 for after the next deadline? And I'll soon be applying for a Canadian ISBN. Has anyone gone through this process before, and have tips on things I should know?
