Author:

Rating/Warnings: PG-13, for not-so-graphic sex but it's mostly G. Rated for safety. Un-beta'd because my usual beta was in bed when I wrote this between 12 and 2:30 in the morning. (I get distracted easily)

Summary: Five times the crew walked in on a tender/sappy moment between Kirk/Bones, one time they walked in on hot and steamy sex, and one time nobody walked in at all.
I.
It was a rare occurrence that James T. Kirk did not get some sort of injury when he was away from the Enterprise, so McCoy wasn't surprised to see a bruised and battered Jim being hauled into sickbay by Uhura and an ensign whose name currently escaped him. Jim saw McCoy and his (partially swollen) eyes lit up.
"Bones!" How the man could speak in even a somewhat cheery tone escaped the good doctor. But it was the chirpy tone that said There's nothing really wrong with me; stitch me up and I'll go bye bye he used, the same one he used nearly every damn time he wound up in this position. Uhura and Ensign No-Name put the perky captain onto one of the beds and he nodded them away.
"Who'd you piss off this time, Jim?" His tone was gruff, as usual, annoyed at the captain for putting himself in danger again. He started to examine Jim's wounds, receiving a pained look for his effort.
"Why do you always assume it was me? As a matter of fact, I was just walking when this brick wall of a villager came right for me. I'm the victim here Bones." As the doors to the sickbay slid shut, McCoy's touch softened considerably, as did his tone.
"Damn it, Jim. One of these days you're not going to come back, and then what do you expect me to do?"
"You knew what could happen when we got into this." He took McCoy's face in his hands. "But would it make you feel better if I said I'll be more careful next time?"
"Even though we both know that's a blatant lie, yes." Jim smiled at him, leaning in to place a sweet kiss on his lover's lips.
Nurse Chapel just smiled and slid the curtain around the bed shut again.
II.
The doors to the turbolift shut and Jim instantly attached himself to McCoy's arm.
"Bones."
"Yes, Jim?"
"Bones, I think I love you."
"Think, Jim?"
"Yes, Bones. Think. I think I love you. Care to fix that?" McCoy rolled his eyes but placed a kiss on the captain's lips nonetheless. Jim smiled against his lips, keeping the kiss sweet and loving. It took a few seconds for the couple to register that the turbolift had stopped and there was Spock standing there, PADD in hand.
"Captain. Doctor." And Jim Kirk, being Jim Kirk, simply grinned.
"Occupied."
III.
"I'm not sick, Bones." Jim sniffled pathetically from the bed. McCoy just smirked.
"Yeah? And I'm not a doctor."
"Fine. Then just jab a hypospray in my neck and lemme-" His objections were cut short by a particularly brutal cough. McCoy rubbed his back soothingly.
"There aren't any hypos for this. You just need to rest."
"Will you stay with me?" McCoy sighed. Jim knew he couldn't resist the batting eyelashes that surrounded those baby blues.
"I suppose." Jim gave a sick grin and opened his arms. McCoy wrapped his own arms around the younger man and pulled him into his lap, just in time for an unsuspecting Uhura to walk through the open (and really, not closing it was a severely idiotic mistake on McCoy's part, but no one seemed to have been awake!) door.
IV.
There's a moment on the Enterprise every night where the bridge is empty for 17 minutes and 56 seconds. Jim's counted. And in those 17 minutes and 56 seconds, when Jim's the last to leave, the doors will slide open, revealing one Dr. McCoy. His mood will vary depending on the day and how rough his shift had been. But every night, he's there no matter how worn he is from fixing people all day. And every night, Jim's waiting for him. And every single night, his Bones, his Doctor Leonard H. "Bones" McCoy, will walk over to him and frame his face with those slender hands and plant a kiss on waiting lips. And every night it contains just as much love and passion and pent up stress and whatever other emotion happened to be troubling them that day as the night before.
But this night, unlike the nights before, there wasn't a speechless Sulu standing just inside the doors on a search for his PADD, not believing that who he was witnessing really were the captain and the CMO.
V.
"Doctor McCoy?" He looked up, to see Jim standing in the doorway. "Can we chat?" Since McCoy had no patients at the moment, he nodded, standing and heading towards the captain. Jim grabbed his arm and pulled him out into the corridor. The doors shut and then Jim was pressed against him. The younger man wrapped his arms around the Doctor's middle and buried his face in the medical uniform covering his chest. McCoy's reflexes had him rubbing Jim's back, letting his head rest on top of Jim's. He wasn't much for PDA, but these small moments he did look forward to, rare as there were. A muffled "I missed you" came from the area of his chest and McCoy smiled.
The smile fell when he lifted his head to find Ensign Chekov standing before them, beginning a stream of babble about being there because of a headache he'd had for a couple of days and if he'd realized what he was interrupting-
McCoy just lifted one finger to silence him and motioned him inside.
VI.
"Mm, yes, Bones. There. Right there." McCoy smirked, burying his face in Jim's neck and nipping at the pulse point. Jim's fingers gripped his back as he thrust, the captain's moans becoming more and more frequent. He knew it was dangerous, doing this in Engineering, but it was lunch time and Scotty was no where to be seen. Just as he reached down to help push Jim over the edge, the sound of something hitting the floor caused both heads to whirl towards the sound in surprise.
There stood Scotty, looking very shocked, to say the least.
And then McCoy decided Jim was never picking where they had sex again.
I.
It was late. Way too late for the captain of a starship to be awake. But he was; he never could sleep on this day. He heard the doors to the bridge slide open and he didn't even look up from his spot in the chair. He just continued to stare out into the vast darkness that surrounded the ship. He heard the footsteps coming closer to his chair and still he didn't look up. He did close his eyes when a pair of strong arms picked him up bridal style and the intruder took his spot in the chair. Surgeon's fingers brushed their way through his already messy hair. Leaning his head on a shoulder, he spoke quietly.
"It's my birthday, Bones."
"I know, Jim. I know." Soft lips pressed to his forehead, a thumb ghosted over the tear tracks on his cheeks, and Jim Kirk slept on his birthday for the first time in years.
