We Killed the Hubble!

This is a sketchblog by Faith Erin Hicks, nem0 and Adam Boorman. We post sketches here, ranging from finished coloured pieces to doodles on the back of napkins. This blog is image heavy, but nothing wider than 500px is posted. Feel free to comment expansively on the artwork. We enjoy it.

HI. SUP?

I've been on a Russian fairy tale kick lately, complete with a newfound appreciation for Ivan Bilibin. Not that that really has anything to do with anything, except that I ganked the idea for this from a picture he did for Vasilissa the Beautiful.

Nina as inspired by an Ivan Bilibin print

And a cartoony wolf. Careful, he bites.

Cute but Kind of Frightening

Stuff!

Rockin' the eyepatched self-portrait again. Hand got kind of mangled, though. This is what I get for drawing teensy tiny crap.

I spent most of the last two weeks setting up a new office and supervising the maintenance guys, so I actually had some time to draw. Holy crap, right?

Nina after a botched mission. I should really get a ref for slings and stuff.

Naomi as she looks in the "static" world. I still haven't figured out how her hair's supposed to look :|

This would be more complete, but I had to get gas this evening, and I still can't feel half my fingers. And that was with two pairs of gloves. PROTIP: leather driving gloves are not sufficient protection against -25F wind chill. Putting the Thinsulate mittens on BEFORE going outside is a much better idea.

...nooo, this isn't a reaction against the current weather conditions, why do you ask? :x

Hey! I just noticed I haven't posted in a long time!

...in my defense, it's been a rough six months or so. I ended up in the hospital back in April, which went from a minor (well, as minor as anything requiring morphine and sedatives can be) problem to a huge ordeal. Long story short, I was diagnosed with a nasty chronic disease that causes all sorts of problems, including chronic pain, depression, and fatigue, which lead to several months of painful and invasive medical exams. The day I found out I had to have surgery for it, I also found out that I was losing my job. Not because I wasn't good at it, but because my boss didn't like me. Oh, and all that happened on the same day, which happened to be the 4th anniversary of my close friend's death.

It was a bad summer.

Then I had the surgery, and it helped a lot. I got a new job, which I love, even though it meant ditching my roommates and moving back to my hometown. I got my own apartment, convienently forgot to sign up for cable TV, and have started doing productive things with my spare time.

Anyway, I kind of quit drawing for a while. It was really low on my to-do list, somewhere under "write a dozen more cover letters," "curl up in a heap on bathroom floor and wait for the nausea to pass," and "watch VH1 on illicit Vicodin." At least, I think it was VH1. For all I know, Lincoln and Sara snuck in and started playing Oblivion. It's not like I'd notice any difference.

But I finally got my shit together, and I started drawing again. Here's some stuff, most of it from an upcoming project. Sorry for the lightness of some of the scans. I've been stealing engineering pads and blue lead from the work coffers, and the blue doesn't scan terribly well.

//EDIT: Beat Photoshop into submission and adjusted the levels on some of these. Hit F5 if the old versions are still in your browser cache.

Sandra, thinking what every DDR player probably thinks when listening to dance music.

more under the cut ) I'll try to be better about updating from now on. Feel free to e-mail/msg me with gentle proddings if I don't.

Now tell us how you REALLY feel.

Man, I was flipping through my sketchbook looking for stuff to post and realized that I totally suck at coming close to finishing things. Lame! I'll have to hack something out tonight so I don't look like a complete slacker. Or is it too late for that? Drats.

And then I was trapped in portal software training all afternoon. The best part was when I was doodling on the cover of the training manual, nearly lost in my personal bubble, and the training leader said, "Now, most of this will be superfluous to you guys. Except for Lacey. This stuff is really important for you, since you'll be in charge of content development for all of auxiliary services. ^_^" Erp. I don't know whether to feel special or terrified.

(I'm leaning towards terrified.)

(Though this is good news regarding job security, I guess.)

(Still terrified.)
