YAYYYYYYY I did it I did it I did it I did it I did it!!
I was sooo nervous but even when I did it to myself in the mirror I had it down pretty well. There wasn't that many people, like 10 - 15, all comedians pretty much, but it pretty much went as well as it could have. I got laughs on all my jokes at least at something, nothing bombed at all.
Actually the biggest laugh I got was something right on the fly. The jost, John is a black guy and came up and said something like "yes. white people, yes...you finally got Oj" but he paused a lot in the beginning and a lot of people were clapping just when he said white people. So I said something to the effect of how I liked that we all just started clapping because we were white, and that got a huge laugh. And then when I talked about how Salt Lake is very white some people clapped as a joke and it totally worked out without me even thinking about it or trying.
Seriously! There was one girl who was laughing a lot at all my stuff came up to me afterwards and said I did fantastic and that she was amazed that it was my first time. All the other guys said I did well too and Dan, the guy who runs it and the show I work at on the weekends, was like "uh is that really your first time?" and was saying I was better than a lot of the guys up there. And i know he's not just saying that cause he's an asshole who is honest about everything, too honest generally.
I realized what a giant crush I have on him tonight haha. We were flirting alot at the show which is awkward because Matty was there and I could tell he knew something was going on. Ughh he's just funny and cute and kind of an asshole but on a hot way. Like a "god it would be awesome to push you up against the wall and go to town" kinda way. Gahhh. And usually he's going like a million miles a minute, but tonight he was all sleepy and wearing his glasses and fucking adorable. And for no reason he came outside when I was out there and he wasn't doing anything, I think just wanted to talk to me. Why does he have a girlfriend! Dumb. |

as i find myself awake as can be at 12:19, I can't help thinking about who i was and who i am now. forever i have been obsessed with stars and two years ago, i would have killed you if you told me anything about the universe. it was such a juvenile idea i had, that in order to retain my imagination, i could not know the truth behind stars, galaxies, our world, etc. such an awaking i had last year, due to taking astronomy with Atkins. i find myself itching to watch cosmos, eager to learn about everything Carl Sagan has to say. I eat up his words as if he were my God. Nothing completes my being as much as his words. his beautiful, eloquent words on human beings and the universe. I beleived science meant the end of romanticism, only leading to information and technology. But oh! how i was dead wrong. science is the beginning of imagination. it is the beginning of us. we are made from star stuff. Be still, my heart. As I write this, I feel like my brain is going to explode from containing all my passion. And i am for once in my life contemplating being a science teacher, knowing I won't get to take the easy route as i have always done. I just want to inspire people the way Sagan inspired me. I have always wanted to teach young children, to shape their minds, to empower them to truly use their creativity. But now, i have a thirst for more. I want both, to guide confused teens into this feeling i have now, but also to teach children. i'll figure this out |

utter_bastard shared a link to an awesome video of Nick's performance of "The Mercy Seat" from last night. Near the end of the video, you can see him reach out to touch fans' hands -- and one of those hands is totally mine. I recognized my ring. :D :D :D ETA: I just found a short video of part of last night's performance of "Red Right Hand." It's less than a minute long, but it sure helps me relive some great memories! When will I stop being an obsessed fan? The answer is never. Now I'm back at home, and I'm still riding on my high from what was one of the best weekends of my life. It wasn't just the concert that made it so worthwhile -- it was also spending time with my biffle (aka "best friend for life," or BFFL) Scott. I went with him to church on Sunday where he delivered an awesome sermon on forgiveness (it actually hit a bit too close to home at times, when you consider that letter I sent recently to my ex-friend). We just had a great time, catching up and hanging out like old times. I also read the entire book Dry by Augusten Burroughs during both train rides. It's a good read, at times both hilarious and heart-breaking. He gets compared to David Sedaris a lot, but I actually like Sedaris more. Still, Burroughs is a good writer. I have more pictures and stuff to post, but Photobucket is still being a douchebag, so hopefully I can do that tomorrow. I really wish I didn't have work tomorrow...what do I have to look forward to now that this weekend is over? *sigh* Current Mood: tired |

masque So I am working on this mask. I am beading gold, copper and black glass beads to it. What else should I do to make it unique? I know some of you are pretty good crafters. This is the look and feel I am going for. |

Dress Up Today was rvrjoe775 's birthday. Since I've been out of town for the last week, and wasn't very prepared, but I was able to hope out to do a little shopping during lunch today. I found a nice striped dress shirt and a sweeter, and then found three more dress shirts on clearance. When I got home, I boxed each one up and lined them up like dominoes just inside the front door, but not close enough that he would knock them down. Thankfully everything fits him right, so I washed them and now they are ready for him to wear. |

In the Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, in Iraq "The women line the mountainside, locked hand in hand in their green battle fatigues, and begin dancing. It's a victory dance, they say, that is routine after raids across the border on Turkish troops. The PKK women say they are fighting for their rights. "We want ... society that revolves around women," one says.
"We want a natural life, a society that revolves around women -- one where women and men are equal, a society without pressure, without inequality, where all differences between people are eliminated," ..." |

Still sick. Still alone. Still ants. Now also no voice. I'm less sick than before, but still sick. I was sweaty, nauseous, and dizzy for a lot of the day. I ate half the salad I took to work. I actually left work before 5pm, which is very, very rare for me unless I have an elsewhere to be. I still have a cough and walking any moderate distance puts me into respiratory distress and I need to use my inhaler. I think I'm dying. Alex is home from Canada, just not home yet. He sent me a text at 5:30 saying he was in LAX. I texted him when I got home. I really wish he'd call. *sigh* Still ants. Always with the ants. Some cat barfed and evidently that's supertasty to ants. Guess what kills ants? Cat stan and odor remover. Go figure! I've killed the ants, now I have to clean up the barf. Yay. And yeah... I started the school day with a voice, but lost it somewhere along the way. I really, really hope it finds it's way back to me by wednesday. We have this weird block schedule where we have a 45 minute class only on wednesday and thursday. I mostly detest these kids. There's 5 or less in a class of 20 that I would enjoy spending quality teacher-student time with. The rest are horrid. So, I already have a hard time working with these kids. If I have no voice, it's gonna be horrible. In other school related news, I have two kids with casts and one more I think needs one. All of them are sports kids (two football and one softball). Sports are dangerous. Seriously. Current Mood: sick |
