Subject:Run IE? PATCH NOW.
Posted by:strredwolf.

Okay folks.  If you're running Internet Explorer, it's time to run Windows Update now.  Microsoft has issued a patch to fix the "p0wn yr b0x" hole in IE.

Subject:Keenspot/Comic Genesis viral ads infect computers via IE
Posted by:strredwolf.
Time:7:13 pm.
Sorry for the late notice, everyone.  I just learned of this myself and Kisai's aparently been on it for the past 24 hours.

One of our ad providers is spreading a virus that sneaks in through a hole in Internet Explorer on the PC.  It only targets IE (and those browsers faking it may get residual problems).  Microsoft is pushing out a patch ASAP to fix it.  The virus takes over a PC and really screws it up -- removal requires a wipe-and-reinstall.

Meanwhile, we're suspending serving from the ad providers until we hear it's been taken care of.

Firefox is safe (and can be easily made safer).  Opera when not faking IE is safe.  Safari is safe, as is Linux or Macs.  I myself encourage switching to Firefox for reasons outside this mess, too numerous to count.

I'll post more info when I can.

We're back up now, although the system is slow while it checks things out as part of normal procedure.

The Newsbox and Guide are down until Kisai resets things and lets me know how to do 'em.

Subject:Question
Posted by:thecartoongod.
Time:4:29 pm.
I know I have a tendancy to ask for peoples' help pro bono in here and while I rarely get takers, it doesn't stop me from trying! Still, if you're the kind of person that wants money up front, you can move along. There should eventually be money, but it's not guaranteed.

Anyway, I'm in the process of developing a 2D point-and-click game and we need artwork from people. Basically that involves characters and animations, level backgrounds, items and objects, things of that nature. None of it is too complicated, I assure you.

As for the money thing, that's going to be up to the executive producer as to how he wants to handle it. We spoke today and when money starts coming in from the game or from advertisement and the like, he plans on setting a percentage aside to go back to those helping. What that percentage everyone gets, to the best of my knowledge, has yet to be decided since, well, there are a whopping 2 people on the team so far.

Stilll, if anyone happens to be interested shoot me a line back here or at the ol' Hotmail under winged_buffalo.

Subject:Hold off on those email addy change requests!
Posted by:strredwolf.

Everyone wants to change them!  ASAP I'm going to copy Quickadmin to a new web address and modify it so you can quickly get your email changed and verified.  If all goes well I can get it done on the train home today.

If you get the "Contact an admin ASAP" message and can IRC, hit me up on irc.esper.net #keenspace 6pm-10pm Eastern TODAY.  Extended office hours today.

Also, if you're going to the St Louis Comic Cookout 5, bring your pool noodle or other Nerf weaponry to hit me with for this ****-up.  Nothing hard or leaded, please -- an injured or dead Admin is no use to Comic Genesis.

Subject:AUTHORS, PLEASE LOG INTO QUICKADMIN ONE TIME!
Posted by:strredwolf.
Time:9:32 pm.
...because I screwed things up.

Folks, at this time I need everyone (as in comic artist/author) to check their email address that they used for their webcomic. You can check them by logging into QuickAdmin with your COMIC'S ACCOUNT. Check them all! If it's right, you're fine. If it's wrong, or you're told you need to contact us, THEN DO SO ON THE FORUMS VIA PM, OR VIA EMAIL! You may also bug me over IM and IRC during my office hours (which are posted here in the Help Center). We will need the ID number in the message if you get the "Contact an admin ASAP" message, and your comic's username.

Why am I asking me this? Because I screwed up and set everybody's email address to one person's address in the comic account database. Yes, public flogging with pool noodles (preferably green or blue) will happen at the St. Louis Comic Cookout. In addition, w/o backups (that's being fixed) the only addresses are the ones in your signups (which are quite historic, actually. I found mine and I entered here before there was a DB).

EDIT:  Don't ask here!  Ask me or Kisai via PM on the forums!

Posted by:thecartoongod.
Time:8:47 am.
A call to arms! Man, phrases like that just aren't used enough anymore. Onward, posthaste!

Anyway, I'm looking for artists in a new business endeavor. I'm taking my comic, The Adventures of Kyle and Josh and expanding it into an entire site with 7 other comics. I have artists for 2 of the 8, but am severely lacking in the rest of the area. So what I need are artists for the remaining 6 comics (someone who will ink their own pencils, whether with pens or digitally) and colorists for the artists that don't do their own. Oh, and I'll be paying people as well as I'm negotiating with investors.

Info on 5 of the 6 remaining projects can be found here for interested parties and you can drop me a line at winged_buffalo at Hotmail with questions, example work, how much you want me to pay you, etcetera, and I'll get back to you.

Subject:Forums being upgraded to PHPBB3 this Thursday/Friday.
Posted by:strredwolf.
Time:11:38 pm.
Our hand has been forced on this one.  We're upgrading to PHPBB v3.0 this Thursday or Friday.  This means the CG forums WILL BE DOWN one of those days.

This will most definitely fix the inability to sign-up or edit your profile problems we have as of late.  So please, if it's related to our forums or Siteadmin, hold off.

IF YOU JUST NEED TO TRIGGER AN UPDATE FOR YOUR COMIC, USE QUICKADMIN.

Thank you for your patience.

Kisai and I are trying to fix some forum problems preventing users from registering or even changing their profile info. If you're stuck and need Siteadmin to just trigger an update, use your comic account on QuickAdmin.

If you're a regular Forum user, hang tight. We're working on it.

Subject:Slowness and Google Analytics.
Posted by:strredwolf.
Time:5:24 pm.
First of all, we're back to tweaking the ads on our end.  Unfortunately, the changes are very extensive and we need to update everyone's.  It's why it's taking such a !*)@#* long time.  Rest assured it'll clear.

Part of the change, however, is to add Google Analytics that's keyed to Keenspot.  If you have your own, then you need to read Kisai's notes here:

Subject:Log in issues
Posted by:kelen.
Time:7:33 pm.
I've been thinking of restarting my comic, only to find that my passwords no longer work since the move from Keenspace to Comicgenesis.

Does anyone know who to contact? I can't log into the forums thanks to the same issue, even though my username still exists, and of course the original email I signed up with hasn't been used in five years so I can't retrieve a password change.

I've sent an email to Tygris(AtComicGenesisDotCom), but have not received a reply. (It's only been four days though.)

Is there a help file I missed somewhere? :)

Subject:Kyle and Josh: Book 1
Posted by:thecartoongod.
Time:3:40 pm.
Alright, kiddies! I'm making it official! You can NOW preorder your copy of The Adventures of Kyle and Josh: Book 1! (Those who haven't read the comic can click here.) Preorders will be available until Sunday, September 16th which gives you just over 2 weeks to order. Monday the 17th I'll be putting the printing order in and I'll have a better estimate on when I'll be getting them back, but I'm shooting for mid-November at the latest. I'll of course let everyone know when the copies have arrived.

The book contains 120 pages of content consisting of the first 4 issues, 4 of the filler comics I did, A 3-page comic by illustrator Steff Krus, and 12 pages of extra stuff like old character sketches and stories behind the issues.

Here's what to do!

1) Log onto Pay Pal and send $25 to winged_buffalo@hotmail.com. Make sure you put your name and shipping address in the notes field just in case.

2) Send me a check or money order for 25 bucks made out to Josh Shoberg, just make sure you mail them off with enough time to get here by September 16th. If you don't want the books going to the return address make sure you put a good address on a slip of paper (hell, write it in crayon on a napkin if you want, as long as it's legible) and slip it into the envelope. If you wanna go this route, shoot me an email to get the mailing address.

And there you have it! And it's been cross-poted to Hell so apologies for that.

I've just noticed CG's webservice was down this morning.  I have restarted our database and web services, and will periodically monitor the whole mess today.

Your logs will be affected -- the problem lies in how we're logging web access to the database, and we'll need to perform maintance on it today.
