Keauna and Rockne to Train With John Nicks

Very unexpected given all the success they had with Dalilah Sappenfield but maybe this will work out for them.

Keauna and Rockne participated in the USOC/NBC Promotional Photo on May 12 in Los Angeles. These pictures are wonderful and I might have to make a new header with them. Just saying.

You can see the rest of them after the cut.
These walls that they put up to hold us back will fall down... )

Saw this in my RSS Feed from USA Today. I didn't even know that he was even injured.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — U.S. pairs figure skating champion Rockne Brubaker is hoping to return to the ice in early May after hernia surgery.

Brubaker had surgery April 3 to repair tears in the muscles of the lower abdomen. Recovery is four to six weeks, and he expects to resume training around May 1.

Brubaker says he first noticed the injury last fall. Teamed with Keauna McLaughlin, they won their second straight U.S. title this year.

They struggled at their first world championships, finishing 11th. But they qualified to represent the United States at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.

I was surprised when I read that he had surgery, and hernia surgery is relatively minor. Hopefully, his recovery will be fast.

I found this YouTube video of Rockne and Keauna from the USOC. It's a really cool thing and Keauna says that Rockne likes Gossip Girl. Ha!
Video in this entry behind the cut. )

Enjoy!

Olympic dream never far from Brubaker

By MAUREEN LYNCH – mlynch@nwherald.com

As soon as Rockne Brubaker opens his eyes each morning, he is reminded.

The five Olympic rings stare Brubaker down, adorning a flag hanging over the 22-year-old’s bed at his home in Colorado Springs, Colo., ensuring that from the moment he wakes until he falls asleep, Olympic glory never is an afterthought.

It has taken a tremendous amount of time, talent and determination to earn the right to dream as big as the Olympics and have the chance to make the dream a reality. And it’s a chance Brubaker, an Algonquin native, never will take for granted.

So Brubaker’s days in Colorado training as an elite figure skater are filled with constant reminders of that Olympic dream, which in a few weeks could become reality.

“I am surrounded by the idea of the Olympics,” said Brubaker, who trains in Colorado Springs with his skating partner, Keauna McLaughlin, and attends the University of Colorado. “I go to the Olympic training center everyday for training and working out, I think about it all the time, and I am constantly reminded of it. The motto of the U. S Olympic Committee is ‘It’s not every four years; it’s every day,’ and I agree. You have to keep your mind focused on the goal and keep working toward the Olympics every single day.”

So each day, Brubaker trains and dreams of the Olympics. And if he and McLaughlin finish well enough at the World Figure Skating Championships in Los Angeles, which begin March 22, Brubaker might be able to stop dreaming and start celebrating.

Going for the Gold: Spotlight On Keauna McLaughlin & Rockne Brubaker
Christie Succop & Jamie Blanchard - USOC February 05, 2009

Sixteen-year-old Keanu McLaughlin and 22-year-old Rockne Brubaker weren't always skating partners. In fact, they competed against each other before they became the skating powerhouse that they are known as today.

When McLaughlin broke up with her skating partner, she skated singles for a year before receiving a phone call in 2006 from her coach asking her to try out as a pairs skater again. She met Brubaker at tryouts, and after two days, they decided to skate together.

First off, I apologize for not updating this community lately. I recently moved and also changed schools, so things have been a bit hectic. But I promise that will all change. I'm working on a banner and some icons so stay tuned for those! In the meantime, I'm sure you all know by now that Keauna and Rockne successfully defended their National Title. And they did it all with Keauna being sick!! Click HERE for an article discussing their amazing accomplishment. I'm so proud of them!!
