OMFG. This is not good. And it almost feels like I'm the bearer of bad news here. (I last posted Lee Eon's death, and now hers?)

The beautiful and talented Choi Jin-shil (age 40, most recently of The Last Scandal of My Life) has been found dead in her home in Seoul.

According to police, her body was discovered at 6:15 am on October 2 and the reasons for her passing are under investigation.

Police said, “We received a report that Ms. Choi had committed suicide and arrived to confirm her death.”

Another officer: “This morning, we received a report from her family that she had hanged herself in the shower stall.”

Choi had recently gone through some rough times supporting her friend Jung Sun-hee, widow of deceased Ahn Jae-hwan, and had battled rumors making the recent rounds that said she supposedly had lent him money, which she roundly denied. But what a shock — following a messy divorce with baseball player Jo Sung-min, her two small children, ages 5 and 7, were under her sole care. Note: this is very new information, so reports are bound to change in the coming days.

LOL. I'm posting these like there's no tomorrow. Although, recently I had been battling myself over whether to watch My Sister-in-Law is 19 (just for the sake of watching Yoon Kyesang on-screen, since, seriously, Who Are You? made me a total fan. Someone remind me why I didn't like g.o.d, please?) or Evasive Inquiry Agency, a fairly newer drama from KBS starring Lee Min Ki (and, well, he's made of friggin' WIN). I decided to stick with the latter, and I'm happy to report that I'm pleased with that decision. I haven't yet finished the drama (still in the beginning half), so no complete review, but the drama is FUNNY.

It mixes offbeat humor and mystery quite well and the fact that romance is secondary (no love trianges! no evil bad girls! no one gets sick!), is welcome to me. Lee Min Ki and Ye Ji-won are the standouts so far, particularly, Lee Min Ki, but I may just be biased.

Anyone watching/watched this drama? Thoughts? Anyone? Since this is seriously underrated.

I was waiting for this and it hasn't disappointed me at all!

The story in a nutshell tells about the Bi Chun Shin Gi (flying sky divine manual) which is a swordmanship manual currently in the protective hands of Ubercooldad (the man has a name, probably a cool one, I just can't remember it), the knowledge in the manual is the source of great power so, of course, Mr Evil wants it... to rule the world o_O, hence he hires someone to kill its protector and bring the manual to him, this someone tells Mr Evil that he's a warrior not an assassin and he doesn't kill for money, yep, a couple of minutes later he and his troops (The Black Devils ^^) are assaulting Ubercooldad's household, to get the manual, for money, and probably because ubercooldad defeated Little Evil which was kind of humiliating for him so... whatever.
Anyways Ubercooldad is not only much better with a sword than his opponents but much smarter too so not only he kicks asses a whole lot before being taken down but he manages too to get his new born son and the manual safe and sound with one of his men of confidence before the attack. Then we have a time jump 20 years forward where the story begins.

And BTW Ubercool dad looks awesome like this:

Just after watching the first 5 minutes I knew I'm going to love this to bits, it can't go wrong with a starting catchy sentence like this:

"Love must be just like this.
Even if it's the road to the underworld we will gladly take it together."

So the episode begins with this man talking about his parents

Just like Damo, in the first 5 minutes it's made clear that the hero/heroine will end pretty... dead, but in an epic and beautiful way, can't wait!

The hero and heroine (Jin Ha and Sul Ri) plus a few men are facing a horribly huge army, ready to fight until the end

She says something like "you'll never be left alone anymore", awwww

they charge, fight, fight more, unbelievably defeat the first wave of opponents and survive the cannon shots

Charge again, on foot, towards a second wave of opponents

she's extremely beautiful in this fight

and he's such a piece of uberhotness (thanks to daddy for those genes)

They've defeated everybody, that Divine Manual has to be quite good

only the two of them left against.... a still huuuuge army (but look at all the people they took down already!)

Two of a kind, beautiful, beauuuuutiful scene

they are ready to charge again

though this time the attack is no other than a shower of arrows, thousands of them...

... and.... fade to black.

Awesome 5 minutes and the story now begins, many years ago, the night when the attempt to steal the manual happens, the same day that Yoo Jin Ha was born, then there's a time jump, 20 years later.... the rest of the first episode tells about how he and his protector have been wandering around, in the woods, unnoticed, not socialising nor getting into others' matters and practicing the swordmanship manual lessons.
Evil man is still chasing them to get the manual, he's chased in the woods by no less than a... ninja?!?! or lookalike?!? when he runs/trample over the heroine, they part ways and meet later.
She (Sul Ri), is a beautiful woman with a sick mother, of course the lord in town wants her as a concubine and doesn't matter if she refuses. Soon Jin Ha ends up fighting to help her, grabbing the attention of several people and of course little evil is among those.

I can't wait to watch the next one, I know I'm gonna love this! So, anybody is watching this too or have finished already?

I swear there are not enough words to describe how much I adored this drama.

Starring: Yoon Kyesang, Go Ara, Kang Nam-gil, Jin Yi Han
Genre: Drama, Comedy, Romance
Synopsis: A story of a happy-go-lucky father who dies, leaving his graduating high school daughter, Sohn Young In, alone. Grief-stricken, he begs for another chance to settle matters with his living loved ones - and he does, in the form of Cha Seung-hyo, a cold-hearted 31 year-old CEO of a major company. The only catch? He is only able to possess the body for 3 hours each day.
Comments: I admit, for some, the plot may turn off some prospective viewers. I admit, that it did for me, and only initial curiousity at first made me watch it. However, this drama turned out to be even more than I expected. Wonderful direction, perfect pacing and development of plot and characters. This drama is all heart - poignant and bittersweet, hilarious but endearing - you're bound to laugh and cry with the characters. The romance is beautiful - no love triangles, but rather two flawed people overcoming their own problems to find solace in each other. The love between the two lovers and the daughter and father are shown beautifully. I personally adore this drama to pieces and find this one of the best of 2008.

Extra: Yoon Kyesang is a standout performing two starkly different characters, transitioning between the two perfectly. The chemistry between the two leads was great, despite the 11 year difference.

Warnings: The drama may not be for everyone if you're looking for some superficial entertainment - it's all heart, focusing much on character development rather than action. Could be a tad too sentimental for some. Weakest episodes are the first two.

Overall Rating: 9/10

I swear, watch it! You'll laugh and cry hysterically. :)

So I don't know if you've heard, but actor Lee Eon (Coffee Prince, Who Are You?, and Choikang Chilwoo) has died from a motorcycle accident. He was 27.

Model-turned-actor Lee Eon (also spelled Lee Un, most famously of Coffee Prince) has died in a motorcycle accident.

The 27-year-old, born Park Sang-min, was on his way home following the wrap party for KBS’s Strongest Chil Woo early on the morning of August 21. He was riding a motorcycle and ran into the guardrail of the overpass, and is said to have died almost immediately.

The news has shocked everyone; online, netizens are abuzz in disbelief. Just the night before, he had been onscreen in Chil Woo’s finale episode, and the sudden news is, to say the least, startling.

Lee Eon got his start modeling, but shot to mainstream levels of fame when he took on the role of simple-hearted but lovable Min Yub in last year’s Coffee Prince. He followed that with a stint as a cable-TV MC, then returned to dramas with Who Are You? and, most recently, Strongest Chil Woo.

RIP.

So...is anyone else watching this drama? What are your thoughts on it?

~~I've just started this drama recently and have only gone up to episode 3, but so far so good. I'm liking the chemistry between Kim Sun-ah and Lee Dong-gun, and the plot is quite fun.~~

I shall admit that the relative plot of the story - antiques, of all things - was rather exaggerated and cheesy at first. But upon watching more of the drama, I'm definitely seeing its charm. The first couple of episodes are slapstick comedy mixed in with bickering that created a rather disjointed feel to it. However, the series starts to gain momentum from episode 6 and onwards - I admit that after a while, you become addicted to the story. What was once considered shallow, superficial entertainment becomes more serious and you see characters come to life. If you're a fan of LDG (I wasn't at first, but this series is making me one), his portrayal of Kim Bum-sang is probably one of his best - intense and he gives his all. Of course, if you're a KSA fan, watching this is highly recommended. Not to mention the chemistry between Lee Dong-gun and Kim Sun-ah is standout.

And err...veering way off-topic here, but I'm recommending everyone to watch Hardtack Teacher and Star Candy/Hello, My Teacher (from SBS 2005) starring Gong Hyo-jin from Thank You and Gong Yoo from Coffee Prince. It may not be for everyone but the drama is definitely one of those feel-good and uplifting dramas that put a smile in your face. There are some aspects of the drama that one may deem unbelievable and unlikely, but those things are evened out by the amusing antics from the students and some moving side-stories that pop up in each episode. It touched the semi-taboo topic of student/teacher relationships quite well without ever making one uncomfortable and the chemistry between the two leads are surprisingly easy-going and fun. I'd definitely check it out - if not for the two leads (who are probably my favorites). Not surprisingly, I've added this drama to my all-time favorite list.

Another series I'd definitely wager a try is Que, Sera Sera (from MBC 2007) starring Jung Yoo-mi and Eric from the musical group Shinhwa. Probably one of the standout dramas of 2007 with it's dark and gritty environment, clever dialogue (it's quite dialogue heavy/driven) and muli-faceted characters that are not glossed up but rather given a sense of realism. The plot is also great, presenting itself in a more realistic way, giving you plausible situations. I do agree it's not for everyone since it's rather darker than the typical K-drama you'd see and some may feel it's too "in-your-face", but it's one of my all-time favorites. Great acting, edgy and mature style and a sense of realism - what more could you want? It's definitely not one of your typical dramas you'd see.

I hope it's okay to post about a series from another country, even though my favorite series are generally from beautiful Korea. I just feel that some people here might find this review I wrote in my journal to be of interest:

Yesterday I watched a lot of “Laughing in The Wind” a Chinese series I get from Netflix.

Watching this series is like watching Jumong on steroids. Everything is extreme and over the top.

It’s about an ancient Chinese world that is made up of various martial arts factions, or parties, which do include women. They use a lot of real martial arts combined with an exaggeration of principles which leads to a sort of magic, in a sense, that goes against the appearance natural laws. There is the Righteous Party (group of people who study certain sword and magic skills) an Evil party (which is the same as the Holy Party) and several other parties whose name I have forgotten. There is also a nun’s party, and I think two monk parties, one of which has famous Shaolin monks of Kung Fu fame. They have Kung Fu, but it is called Gong Fu in the series. They have Chi, but it is called Qui in the series.

All the parties are trying to find the Purity Sword Book, which is some sort of fighting system. There is another book, the Xia Magic Book (wrong spelling, can’t remember the spelling). There is also another kind of fighting book or system that starts with W that requires the practitioners to castrate themselves in order to gain power.

All this is interesting but what truly sustains my interest are the characters. There is one main character, a seemingly ordinary, attractive young man of a generous and dedicated nature, who keeps learning these remarkable powers from some mysterious forces. (In one case, a ghost). The powers and martial arts techniques are those used in an opposing party, so this makes the young man’s master suspect him of disloyalty.

After a few experiences, the six Tao Immortals started following the young man around (comical clown-like characters referred to sometimes as monsters). In another case, out of the blue, the young man was helped and healed by members of the “Fairy Party”, whimsical looking young ladies. No one knows why the young man gets all this special help; we are waiting for the mystery to unfold.

There are also some romances involved, three young ladies are potential love interests: Little Nun, Little Sister, and Holy Lady (of the opposing party. Holy Lady is usually seen mysteriously veiled.

There are some music themes having to do with the zither and flute, and some beautiful healing music is played. There is also a Romeo and Juliet type of effect, in that one cannot be associated with a good friend or love interest from another group without coming under suspicion.

The young man has a weakness for wine, and there is much wine drinking in the series, and a lot of information given forth about the various precious wines of the area.

The young man seems to embody the coming of age hero quest thing, as seen in King Arthur and discussed as an archetype by Joseph Campbell (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hero_with_a_Thousand_Faces).

All the costumes are very beautiful, graceful, and intriguing. I love the criss-cross tunic with the over-robe on men, and also the large coordinated belt. Some of the women’s costumes are downright spell-binding, and even bald-headed Little Nun’s costume, with the natural cream colors, is done in a slightly gossamer fashion that makes the costume rather entrancing to the eyes as she moves.
