WOMAN OF THE WORLD:
Exotic Karina Lombard, who plays alternate reality-maker Alana Mareva on the USA Network's "The 4400" sci-fi hit, admits, "Even though I love playing the character, this year I have to say I really miss New York and L.A. Vancouver, where we shoot, is definitely in Canada," says the beauty, who is Lakota on her mother's side, Swiss and Russian/Italian on her father's -- born in Tahiti, raised in Barcelona. She adds, "Canadians are nice people. Everything is softer, I find in Vancouver, a softer vibe than other cities. But, mama mia! I wish we could shoot in New York. I was so happy to go back there last month! I have special people there." Even so, Lombard, who rose to fame on "The L Word," doesn't consider New York home. "Home is in my heart. I've never felt an allegiance to any country, but an allegiance to love and the people who come into my life." |

 4400 Returnees Revealed
Ira Steven Behr, co-creator of USA Network's SF series The 4400, told SCI FI Wire that the series will bring back guest stars Peter Coyote and Jeffrey Combs in the upcoming third season, but that fans may have to wait a bit to see the resolution of last season's cliffhanger, which featured the mysterious reappearance of Billy Campbell's Jordan Collier. "We're gong to tease this a little longer, partially because Billy Campbell is on a tall ship cruise around the world as a crew member, not as a passenger. He's up there in the riggings," Behr said in an interview earlier this year. "[But] it will be worth the wait, that's all. We've come up with an idea for him that I think is very good, and the way you saw him at the end of last season, with that beard and that hair, I think, is going to play a part in his character, so that might give you some idea." At the end of last season, fans saw what appeared to be 4400 leader Collier on a beach, though he was supposedly assassinated earlier in the year.
Behr added that the new season will bring back new regular cast member Karina Lombard as Alana Mareva, who was introduced as the love interest of Joel Gretsch's Tom Baldwin last year. "I think she's going to be in 10 out of 13 episodes playing Alana, Tom's lover and 4400 member," Behr said. "And I think that relationship and her abilities are going to have a big impact this season."
Next season will also see the return of "the equally lovely and talented Jeff Combs, who I worked with numerous times in the past," Behr said, with tongue in cheek. Combs, who worked with Behr on various Star Trek projects, will again play Kevin Burkhardt, a brilliant but troubled scientist who played a key role in last season's finale.
And former series regular Peter Coyote, who played the nefarious NTAC chief Dennis Ryland, makes an appearance. "He's in for a nice couple of episodes," Behr said. "Peter came back last year at the end, in those two episodes, and he ... scored hugely. He was in what could be an unsympathetic role, I'd say, and yet made it so cogent and so clear and his point of view was so well stated that you just want to see more of him. ... We're not going to see Dennis Ryland back as the head of NTAC. Those days are certainly gone. But he will still play a decisive role in the series, and I think that he'll have a lot of fun." The 4400 returns with 13 new episodes starting June 4. USA Network is owned by NBC Universal, which also owns SCIFI.COM. —Patrick Lee, News Editor |

Third '4400' Season To Deliver Answers New Episodes To Look At "Bigger Questions"
(April 24 2006) - So, you want to know why 4,400 humans were abducted and returned to Earth?
Well, then, tune into upcoming new episodes of USA Network's series, "The 4400," which promise to answer such big questions, co-creator Scott Peters told SciFi Wire.
"We're still going to see new 4400 members," Peters said. "We're still going to have things for Tom [Joel Gretsch] and Diana [Jacqueline McKenzie] to investigate, but I think what's also really fascinating—something untapped that we're trying to go for here--is the bigger mythology. The bigger questions of 'Who did this?' We kind of know who did this, but who specifically did this. And why did they do this? We kind of know why, but why specifically did they do this? And now that they've taken this step, what are the ramifications? And what has changed that maybe they couldn't have predicted?"
"The 4400" tells the story of characters Tom Baldwin and Diana Skouris, who are agents for the fictional National Threat Assessment Command, probing the mysterious re-appearance of 4,400 people who had vanished over the decades but are now back with unusual powers.
In the third year, the show will focus more on Baldwin, Skouris and the other main characters, including Baldwin's girlfriend, Alana (played by new series regular Karina Lombard); Skouris' adopted daughter, Maia (Conchita Campbell); and a newly grown-up Isabelle, played by new cast member Megalyn Echikunwoke, according to SciFi Wire.
Peters also said a romance may develop between Isabelle, who has powerful telekinetic abilities, and Shawn Farrell, played by Patrick Flueger, who has the power to heal.
"There's plenty of romance with her and Shawn, yeah," Peters said. "I mean, clearly, over the first three episodes they become very attracted to each other. Which is a little bit of a dangerous thing, because it's all great when she's happy, but man, you don't want to break up with her."
The show will answer the question of what happened to Jordan Collier (Billy Campbell), the leader of the 4,400, who seemed to have been assassinated, but appeared alive briefly at the end of the second season, SciFi Wire said.
Don't expect an answer soon, Peters said. "Yes, we certainly will tease you," he said. "But, you know, he's a really strong character. We're using that to our advantage. We pepper the shows with him, but when he's being used, he's going to be used in a very big, strong way. So stay tuned."
