Let's kick things off again shall we?

Ok so I know I've been slacking with the discussion upkeep over here.  My bad.  It's summer and well...I'd rather be outdoors :P
Anyhow, got a new interview we can all peruse and pick over:

"Confessions" Chapter Titles

Confessions of a Kamikaze Cowboy has had a few printings in different years, some of the chapters in certain editions are out of order or "rolled in" to other chapters in latter editions.
So....following along with the bouncing ball may be a bit tricky for some with older editions with combined chapters.
What I will do is list here the chapters in the most current edition by title:

Chapters:
1.  Floundering Vagabond
2.  Letting Go
3.  Regurgitational Reflections
4.  Oh Baby!
5.  Cooking for Love
6.  Pigskin and Greasepaint
7.  Okay, M.D., I'm Ready for My Close-Up
8.  Do or Die
9.  The Garden of Eden
10.  On the Road
11.  God Bless Charlie's Angels
12.  Don't Mess With Starbuck
13.  No More Mr. Sperm Bank
14.  Where Have All The Mothers Gone?
15.  Survival
16.  The Proof Is In Your Peeing
17.  We All Scream For Ice Cream
18.  Tyranny Of The Invalids
19.  College of Fools
20.  Born In Montana, Bread in Greece
21.  You're On Your Own
22.  Kamikaze Cowboy Kitchen
23.  Epilogue

Hopefully this may help all of us stay on the "same page" as it were ;-)

Floundering Vagabond

One of our posters suggested that Dirks' book "Confessions of a Kamikaze Cowboy" be broken down into chapters for discussion.
So here we go with Chapter One: "Floundering Vagabond".

For those who have read the book, you can of course follow along easily enough with your copy at home.  For those who have not, you can find an excerpt on the book page stated in the previous blog entry.  Or perhaps those who have copies can repost their favorite passages from this particular chapter and help along those who have not yet read the book.

Chapter One:  Floundering Vagabond

"It began, prohetically enough, in Hollywood.  A city I was to come back to time and again, in sickness and in health, in success and in failure, with anticipation and with dread.  But this was my first visit."

Kamikaze Cowboy Confesses

Written while on the set of The A-Team in the early 80's and published in 1987, Confessions of a Kamikaze Cowboy is Dirk's self professed "Manifesto Prostato".  Chronicling his early years in Hollywood, his discovery of prostate cancer at the tender age of 30, and his transformation from "Montana beef eater to Japanese rice chewer".

The book itself is full of intimate details about Dirk's early career, his prostatic cancer and his conversion to the Macrobiotic way of eating.
It's a very insightful book and has been very beneficial in being a ray of hope for other cancer sufferers looking for an alternative ( non medicinal/surgical ) approach to healing.

This book is in print and you can read some of the books *excerpts here:

Lost In Castration

I think it's safe to say that this essay, printed in Dreamwatch magazine almost four years ago, will probably go down in infamy in Dirk circles as the one piece to date he's written that's envoked the strongest reaction.  And criticism.  Even today, it is still being debated.
For this particular piece Dirk has been praised.  And villified.

So read on if you dare.  Debate if you like, but no personal flaming red hot tomatoes please ;-)

Dig Deep..Puppy In Bottom

I found a gem hidden away in a backup file that I tucked away a few years ago for future viewing.
After reading it again, I decided to bring it back out and dust it off.

This is an engaging piece that Dirk wrote about growing up in Montana called "Dig Deep..Puppy In Bottom".
Some of it is hysterical, and others thought provoking.

Enjoy  ( and excuse the broken graphics links ) :-)

Ode to Owen

Now I realize that the title of this latest piece Dirk wrote for Blockbuster UK back in October '07 is titled "Forever Young", but it's original title is "Ode To Owen".  That was the title Dirk picked and the editors obviously did not.  However, personally I think it's one of his best.  As a Mom of two girls, one a teenager and the other not far behind, I found this piece to hit close to home as a Mom dealing with the angst and worries of a teenage girl trapped in the world of the peer pressures of being...well...a teenage girl.  The constant state of being presssured not only by her classmates, but the corporate machine to "look" a certain way.  Or, you are not "beautiful" if you do not buy this product, wear that pair of jeans etc.  Or in this case, have that face lift or that breast augmentation.  So is the world today.  Pity for the girls growing up in it.

Introduction

If you recognize the fellow in my user pic you'll probably know him best as Dirk Benedict.  Actor.  He's done many things over the past 30 odd years.

I wanted to create a community that steered more from his acting and more into his writing for he truly is, well, good at it.  Not only that, he's managed to change a few lives by sharing his own.  With two autobiographies under his belt, as well as many articles and essays ( most which have managed to piss off the masses who think "Starbuck" should stick to cigars and not have an opinion about anything ) he's had alot to say.  About alot of things.  Good, bad, and downright ugly.  But for the most part, I think, pretty accurate.

So, if you dare enter this blog looking for Starbuck or What's-His-Face or any of the other cast of various facades he's managed to make a living out of, you're in the wrong place.

If you're here out of curiosity about this self proclaimed "Dangerous Wordsmith" then stick around.

If you wish to participate here, I have but one rule.  Each person has their own opinion and a right to it, BUT, if you're simply  here to taunt and flame and incite other nasties, then there's the door.

That bit of modly stuff settled....shall we carry on?
