Drama CD Eight Kirin Translation
(edit)Track 1: http://mymedia.yam.com/m/508585

Didn't see a translation of this so i thought I'd give it a try since i really liked it. If there are mistakes, sorry and please tell me. (sorry about the long post before, I'm new at this LJ thing and didn't know about LJ cut. kindda panicked when everything just showed up unlike everybody else's post)

Juuni Kokki Drama CD (夢三章) Track 1
The Eight Kirin (八麒麟)

Rakushun: You’ve come to hear more stories? But I have to study… Oh well. I’ll tell you one about kirins that I heard from En-Taiho. It’s from a long time ago about a gathering of the kirins who rarely see each other. Eh? I don’t know if it’s true or not because it’s something from that En-Taiho. But when En-Taiho was recounting this story, he was smiling with a good look on his face.

Youko: Eight Kirin

*heavy breathing of Rokuta running*

Renrin: En-taiho, it’s has been a while. I’m sure you know about the invitation that was sent to me by Hekikagenkun. Even though I’d like to bring my greetings to you all myself, but as you know, the situation in Ren still requires caution. It is truly unfortunate. I especially would have liked to meet the loveable Tai-taiho once again. En-taiho seems close to Tai-taiho, May you please relay to him that Renrin will be waiting for him at Ren once again.

Rokuta: *huff puff* That Renrin, casually asking for a favour. Now I can’t just skip this one out! *huff puff* Ah! Why is Houzan so huge!!

*laugher from a group of people*

Taiki: En-taiho!

Rokuta: Little one! You made it!

Taiki: Gyousou-sama… His majesty said I could come if I wanted to.

Rokuta: I see. Seems like you’re getting along pretty well with Tai-ou.

Taiki: Yes! A few days ago, he let me to move my room to one that is right by his palace. He said so I could see him whenever I wanted to.

Rokuta: That’s great.

Taiki: Yes! Aa, Genkun-sama!

Gyoukuyou: What a sight! To have so many former Housanko gathered here at Houryou Palace all at once. It is a truly rare thing. You all have matured beautifully.

Kyouki: Hekikagenkun.

Gyoukuyou: Ohh! Kyou-taiho. You were here upon this Mt. Hou for 28 years, you must be feeling quite nostalgic.

Kyouki: A...ha. To have gathered us all here today, her Majesty is concerned if there is a strange change in the Heavens.

Rokuta: Same here. Like is there some sort of calamity about to come?

Sairin: If that is so, it is a serious matter.

Gyoukuyou: Hohoho. There is nothing to be concerned about, Sai-taiho.

Sairin: Is… that so?

Gyoukuyou: Please relay to En-ou and Kyou-ou to rest assured. I have gathered you all to share in the happiness of having twelve kirins living peacefully in the twelve kingdoms.

Kourin: Speaking of which, now that Tai-taiho has returned, there is no kingdom that is without a kirin.

Taiki: Is that something rare?

Gyoukuyou: No. There has been many times when all twelve kirins have been present but it’s usually Tai and Kei that lacked a kirin in recent years.

Keiki: Genkun, is that truly the sole reason?

Gyoukuyoun: Oya? Dissatisfied, Kei-taiho?

Keiki: I don’t mean it that way…

Rokuta: But I’ve never heard a kirin gathering for a reason like that.

Gyoukuyou: Ohoho. En-taiho, any changes to your kingdom?

Rokuta: Eh? We’re the same as usual. Instead, I’m worried about Kei and Kou.

Gyoukuyou: How is your Majesty doing, Kei-taiho?

Keiki: Ah. All is good. Court affairs are being handled accordingly.

Gyoukuyou: I see. Kou-taiho, how is your kingdom?

Kourin: Eh… Yes. All is good with his Majesty and the people.

Rokuta: Really? The rumours said….

Kourin: My reply was ‘All is good’.

Gyoukuyou: That is splendid. And for Sai-taiho? Like is the new empress kind and whatnot?

Sairin: Eh, all is good.

Gyoukuyou: It is a shame what happened to Gou-ou.

Sairin: No… it’s alright…

Gyoukuyou: Kyou-taiho, Hou-taiho, how are your kingdoms?

Kyouki: Thank you very much. All is good with Her majesty and the kingdom’s situation. Just that, recently, there’s has been an increase in refugees from Hou….

Hourin: What is it that you’re saying, Kyou-taiho!

Rokuta: Hourin!

Hourin: All is good with our kingdom as well. As you know, due to the geography of the northern parts, some people became refugees but it is by no fault of His Majesty’s way of governance.

Kyouki: But… never mind.

Gyoukuyou: Hohoho. Kyouki’s sympathy for a neighbouring kingdom. What’s the matter, Tai-taiho and that sad expression upon your face?

Taiki: No… I’m just a little surprised. Um, I still don’t understand anything about kingdoms… so I think all is probably not good.

Gyoukuyou: Ma! Ohohoho. (someone is a little too fond of the Ohohoho laugh)

Taiki: Um, Genkun-sama. I heard that the twelve kingdom’s kirins are all present but it seems like there are only seven people here.

Rokuta: Well, that is true. Ah, Renrin told me to tell you she couldn’t make it…

Gyoukuyou: Shunki is unable to leave his kingdom it seems.

Kourin: I’ve heard that the Shun kingdom is wavering a little. I wonder if it’s because of that…

Gyoukuyou: Kou-ou is concerned about this?

Kourin: Ah, yes. Shun-ou was a public servant as well. Because they resemble each other, His majesty thinks that it could possibly become his problem as well.

Gyoukuyou: I don’t know the reason but it could possibly be true. Again, I got no reply from the Kingdom of Ryuu. En-taiho, have you heard anything?

Rokuta: Ah, Ryuu and En are neighbours but we don’t have many ties. I’ll go have a look sometime soon.

Kourin: For a kingdom’s Saiho to so nonchalantly enter another kingdom…

Rokuta: Alright, I get it. You’re so serious, Kourin.

Gyoukuyou: The remaining ones who are not present are Sou and Han. Both kingdoms have notified me saying that their Taiho are unable to leave their kingdoms.

Hourin: I said nothing is wrong!

Kourin: What’s the matter, Hou-taihou?

Hourin: Nothing… Kyou-taiho was persistently asking if “your kingdom is truly not experiencing changes”.

Kyouki: You have my most humble apology. But… Her Majesty is concerned about this.

Rokuta: Ahh… that little miss, right?

Keiki: Kyou-taiho, is there a basis for Kyou-ou’s concern for Hou’s situation?

Hourin: Of course there isn’t.

Kyouki: Actually, what the refugees are saying have reached Her Majesty’s ears…

Kourin: Please stop.

Keiki: Kou-taiho.

Kourin: Every kingdom has their own circumstances. But that is not something that needs to be revealed to another kingdom. It should be something that Kei-taiho understands as well.

Keiki: That is true but…

Rokuta: But everyone here are kirin. I’m not saying that we should force it out of someone but if it’s just here and something’s bothering you, it might be good if you try and talk it out.

Hourin: En-taiho….

Sairin: I wonder if it’s that simple….?

Rokuta: Now what, Sairin?

Sairin: If it is something truly painful, speaking of it will only deepen one’s wounds. Furthermore, just because we’re all kirin doesn’t mean we’d be able to share in that pain.

Rokuta: That’s not true! Just now, Kyouki was all worried…

Kyouki: I was just doing what Her Majesty…

Rokuta: You!

Keiki: Let’s stop, En-taiho.

Rokuta: Even Keiki too! Fine, I get it. I just have to leave you to do whatever you want, right?

Kourin: Our lord and kingdom alone already takes up all our efforts. It’s the same for Hou-taiho, correct?

Rokuta: I said I got it!

Taiki: Um, En-taiho. And everyone.

Rokuta: Ah?

Kourin: Tai…taiho?

Taiki: Are you… arguing?

Taiki: Arguing?!

Hourin: Such a thing…

Keiki: Taiki, don’t make such an expression.

Sairin: Are you crying?

Kourin: What’s the matter, Tai-taiho?

Taiki: I… I’m a new kirin so I don’t understand anything difficult like everybody else but…

Keiki: That’s not true.

Taiki: But Gyoukuyou-sama said this before. Kei-taiho and I are both born from the Shashinboku (self-sacrifice tree) of Mt. Hou… so we’re like siblings. So I thought it must be the same with you all other kirins.

Rokuta: Ah…. Siblings, huh…?

Hourin: Sib… lings…

Taiki: I was very happy when I heard that. It made me realize that I wasn’t brought into this world alone. So I was really looking forward to meeting everyone… so… so…

Rokuta: Ah! Don’t cry, little one!

Sairin: Taiki, you alright?

Keiki: Please don’t cry.

Kyouki: En-taiho, what is it exactly that we should do?!

Rokuta: Don’t ask me!

Hourin: Tai-taiho.

Taiki: Hou-taiho. I’m sorry. I really didn’t understand…

Hourin: It’s truly nothing, Tai-taiho. En-taiho was just a little concerned about my kingdom.

Taiki: Is that so?

Rokuta: Eh? Yeah…

Hourin: But there is nothing to be concerned about. His Majesty is a wonderful person. He could be a little overly strict at times but I’m sure… some day…

Kourin: Of course. After all, His Majesty is someone chosen above all others by the Heavens to receive the throne.

Sairin: Yes. There is nothing we could do but to believe in those who become rulers.

Taiki: This is great. Everyone is just as I’ve imagined.

Sairin: Eh?

Taiki: Getting into fights like these… just like real siblings do!

Hourin: Is that… so?

Taiki: Um, Hou-taiho. If there’s anything I could do, I’ll be glad to help.

*laughter*

Gyoukuyou: Come over here. Have something warm.

Sairin: Yes Tai-taiho, over here. Please tell us stories of Hourai.

Taiki: yes! En-taiho, Hou-taiho, and Kyou-taiho, shall we go together?

Hourin: Y…Yes.

Kyouki: Yes.

Rokuta: Renrin…it’s just as you’ve said…

Renrin: I really wanted to see Tai-taiho and everybody else. The kingdom has still yet to calm and I find myself still in the midst of uneasiness and confusion. But there is no one I can discuss these feelings with. Even if it’s just for a brief moment, to be able to meet with other kirin and find comfort in our birthplace at Mt. Hou… and to see Tai-taiho’s smile… It must truly be a thing of happiness.

Thanks for posting this. Do you have the Drama CD? Is there any chance you'd be able to share it? I'd really, really, really love to have the original and be able to listen to it.

Thank you so much! That was adorable, and it's great to see (hear?) the kirin away the rulers, acting like, *giggle* siblings. Taiki's like the cute-glue holding everyone together.

Is there a credit on who actually wrote the text? It seems odd. In the novels Taiki is already back (if still troubled) and also not a cute 10 year old anymore, while Kou and Hou won't have new kirins for another 10 years. Him being all "I don't know anything" and crying, as a 26 year old who'd hopefully have gotten back into things some years before, seems off. Unless Ono plans to hit a reset button.

This seems like it took place right after the "Toei" short story, before all the stuff in Tai and Kou and Hou happened. (Taiki saying that Gyousou just gave him new rooms alludes to the ending of "Toei," and Hourin talking about her king being strict is a pretty obvious allusion to the nutjob king of Hou in all of Shoukei's flashbacks.) Taiki definitely sounds ten in the audio, which was linked above; plus Rakushun at the beginning notes that it took place "a long time ago"; i.e., a while before the present timeline in the books and anime.

Also, and I'm not entirely sure about this myself, but it sounds like Ono at least had some hand in writing it if they're making ominous predictions about what's happening in Shun. Or at least I hope so. If she wasn't included in the consultation team, maybe she'll make things peachy in Shun out of spite.

*re-reads*

Ohhh, it makes more sense now. I'd *thought* one or both of Kou or Hou were switching to ki from rin, now. So 6 years ago, Hou-ou is starting to go nuts ("strict") and Kyou-ou's already alarmed, the "recent" change of rulers in Sai is recent from the POV of an immortal, Ryuu's starting to wobble, Hourin and Kourin are still alive... it all fits. Thanks.

I think Wikipedia or something has said Shun might be wobbling, but I don't know a good source. I'm a bit more confident of their not communicating much, period.
