[Translation] Report: Osaka campaign~ (24/07/08)
Hot from Juri's official site~ =3

Osaka campaign

Yesterday, together with director Inudo and actress Koizumi Kyoko , Juri attended Gu gu datte neko de aru's Osaka campaign! (should be something like premiere/promo)
Posted a picture from one of the magazine interview.
Since the release of the movie is in September, there are quite a lot of magazine appearances.
So, please pay attention to the NEWS for more details.

---

I think we can chronicle the growth of her hair with each update... ;) And I could have mistaken the above for Faye Wong. Heheh.

Edit: Added something else in response to [info]mel_026 comment about Juri feeling like a cat after the filming...

Is this what you mean? Lol...=3

Darou? Haha. ^^

Hmm, but I thought the movie has already been screened? Since there's appearances in April. So it's officially out in September? @_@

Apparently the movie will be screened in September. That appearance was the press conference/preview announcing the completion of the movie.

Ahh~ Naruhodo. Makes sense that there weren't much more promos/info about it. I guess it's good news since it means more Juri in mags and TV for the coming months. =3

Thanks for the info. I can be so lazy most of the time. ;)

Haha...cat-like Juri indeed. She was born in the year of the Tiger (a big cat). Felinely graceful and playful...but watch out! If you're not careful and step on their tails, they will eat you up! Lol

Yeah, she was born a day after my sister. So I know how these 'big cats' are. Haha.

You reminded me of something. I should probably post up that Juri!Tiger scan here. ;)

I used to have a big crush on Faye Wong after seeing Chungking Express. Now I'm crazy for Juri-chan. Kinda makes sense I guess.:D

I'm really gonna miss her Ruka-hair once she grows it out again.

Ahh, that movie was so long ago. But hehe, kinda makes sense. ;)

Yeah, she'll probably just let them grow until her next role. Then it'll probably be a whole new hairstyle again~ I'm gonna miss Ruka cut too but I'm looking forward to her next transformation. ^^

Juri's resemblance to Faye Wong is uncanny at times. Check out this video:

I'd love for Juri to play a quirky role like Faye's in Chungking Express or 2046. She's got the makings of an indie actress in cult films who will surprise you with each new role she takes up. Am really anticipating Juri's next transformation. ^_~

Lol, yeah, that one in particular made me think of Faye Wong. The style and make up probably. But I think she's been playing quite a few quirky roles already. Some serious roles once in a while(like in LF or Rainbow Song) is good to balance out things. ^^ I'm anticipating her next role as well~ =3

I hope her next project will be a juicy movie role (main character preferbly, not just titular lead, like in Naoko....pffft). If it's supporting, then let it be in a mindblowing film like 'All About Lily Chouchou', where Juri can steal the scene. lol. I want to see her play gritty characters like a manic-depressive or a drug pusher. Or someone with a split-personality. :)

For dramas, I see Juri as being the next Shinohara Ryoko. Promoted solely for her ability to act, because Juri has certainly broken out of the idol game away from her peers.

I think people are clear of her abilities now. While Nodame might have been a breakthrough role, Ruka sealed the fact. So, yeah, I think there would be bigger and better roles coming her way now. =) And gritty characters would be cool. We've seen glimpses of it through Tsubasa ga Oreta Tenshitachi and Rainbow Song. For me, I'd like to see a secret agent/spy/detective kinda role. A lot of chances to use her chameleon abilities and throw in some kick@$$ action at the same time. =D

Yes - Nodame followed by Ruka was a one, two "knock out" punch. :-D

A spy role/espionage thriller/science-fiction would be cool. Or something along the lines of "Run, Lola Run" (she's already got the bob haircut down, just need to dye it red, lol).....also it'd be fun to see Juri play someone from the future visiting the past to save the world from impending armagedon, using weird futuristic language and karate moves...(kinda like Milla Jovovich in "The 5th Element"). hehe.

"save the world from impending armagedon, using weird futuristic language and karate moves"

If you replace armageddon with saving kidnapped rich girls, weird futuristic language with kansai dialect and add karate with wrestling moves...it would equal Warau Michael. Lol. While I enjoyed Juri's performance in it,the rest of the movie is an example of how things that involves extraordinary power/people can easily go wrong...

"Warau Michael" is one Juri-film I have yet to see, but yeah, heard it was kitchy....something about a giant fake dog running amok? lol. The thing with science fiction films is, they have to be done extremely well (plotwise and special effects) or else the movie will turn out unintentionally funny and/or ridiculous. "Dororo" was another poorly conceived movie. :-P I think only Hollywood has the budget to make realistic looking CGI, so they're miles ahead of asian films in the science fiction genre (although Korea's "The Host" was quite good).

Well, here's another idea (or rather, wishful thinking, lol)....how about a historical epic drama for Juri? She could play a real (or fictional) person that changed/influenced Japan in a significant way....like "Dae Jang Geum", haha...I would *love* to see Juri play a strong, progressive woman way ahead of her times. <3

I wouldn't call Warau Michael science fiction. More like comedy with some fantasy, drama and action mixed in. The dog is the least of its problem. What do you think of a giant CGI-ed Juri? ...I think the special effects which was suppose to make the movie more interesting and funnier just made it lamer. But I enjoyed Juri's fish-out-of-water character. Her awesome acting just made the suckiness of the other aspects more apparent though. ^^;

As for Dororo, I kinda enjoyed it. Some parts might make you go "Eh?" but the acting was pretty solid all around. The Host though, is ashining example of how a monster movie should be like. It just felt so raw and real. You don't feel the same with Cloverfield because, frankly, you don't give a damn about the characters...Western movies might have better special effects, but what makes a really good movie is still the humanity factor...the ability to make us feel for the plight of the characters. Or something to that effect...heh.

I wonder if Juri would accept a role in a Taiga drama(Japan periodical drama. they do one each year). But I'm not sure if I want her to do it since it seems like a ritual for up & coming actors/actresses/idols these days. Unless it's a main character(and not just ONE of the love interests as such dramas are prone to have).

Yeah, you're right. Movies like "Warau Michael" and "Dororo" fall more under the fantasy genre than science fiction. The same rules apply though. I can't really sit through a fantasy movie that has cheap special effects or silly characters with no engaging plotline. Dororo works better as an anime than movie, imo. I also think Tsumabuki Satoshi was miscasted as the lead character, he couldn't really bring out the dark aloofness of the role... Tsumabuki still has too much of a sunshine boy image going, haha. I think Joe Odagiri might have suited the role more.

There are some awesome anime and mangas in Japan that might make great movie adaptations, if only done right. For example, Hayao Mayazaki's works. Can you imagine Juri playing the live-action version of Princess Mononoke? She'd kick ass and the movie might work coz it's set in a fantastical world, with great action, cool characters and has a timely social message about respecting the earth. :) Some mangas are better left alone though, like Yukan Club and Honey and Clover. Ugh.

"The Host though, is a shining example of how a monster movie should be like. It just felt so raw and real. [...]Western movies might have better special effects, but what makes a really good movie is still the humanity factor...the ability to make us feel for the plight of the characters."

Very true. Although the action and special effects are important, but without a good story with characters you can relate to, the movie will feel hollow. Hollywood movies concentrate too much on OTT special effects at the expense of story and characters. That's why I couldn't care for the last two Matrix installments, the cgi just got ridiculously excessive that it numbed my skull... -__- Now every other movie has that "freeze motion bullet swerve" or whatever you call it, meh... Which is why I found The Joker in "Dark Night" so fascinating. At the end of the day, it's all about the acting and emotions, dammit. Heath Ledger sold his character's scary pychosis and made you believe that such a person could actually exist. *shudder*

"I wonder if Juri would accept a role in a Taiga drama(Japan periodical drama. they do one each year). But I'm not sure if I want her to do it since it seems like a ritual for up & coming actors/actresses/idols these days. Unless it's a main character(and not just ONE of the love interests as such dramas are prone to have)."

Me neither. Taiga dramas take up so much time, I'd rather Juri make a couple of good movies in that (3-6 months?) timeframe. Besides, the traditional taiga dramas are verry slow moving and unless this one has a particularly good story for Juri, I'll pass. She deserves more than to play just a token love interest for the up-and-coming idol of the day. :-P

Haha, Tsumabuki and sunshine image huh? I haven't really seen him act before Dororo so didn't really have any preconceived image about him. But I guess for fans of Orange Days, it's nice seeing him and Shibasaki Kou collaborating again. Joe Odagiri...would work well if they have a sequel set a few years later.

Lol~ Mononoke Hime! I watched something last night where Juri attended this show(last year) and she mentioned about Mononoke Hime. Coincidence? or a sign? ;) But yeah, it's my favourite Ghibli anime. Juri would rock the role~ =3 (Btw, OOT, but I think in the new Hellboy movie, they copied the 'green plant monster' thingie from Mononoke Hime...=P)

Dark Knight~! Definitely set new standards for superhero movies. It was awesome. Blurred the line between good and evil and made people ponder about a lot of issues. Movie of the year for me. =)

Btw, are you in d-addicts? Cause I have a hunch...;)

Tsumabuki's sunshine image stuck on him permanently since his "Waterboys" days, lol. Yeah, it was nice to see and Kou again after "Orange Days"...they do have a natural chemistry, so much so, there are reports that they are dating for real. :) "Dororo" will be a trilogy, I heard. They will soon film Part 2.

Juri in a live-action Gibli film would be a dream. Anything coming out from Studio Gibli draws world-wide attention. And if Juri plays a famous heroine from Miyazaki, she'll definitely raise her profile....hey, she might even get invited to Cannes! LoL. Seriously, I want Juri to catch the eye of world class directors and be invited to collaborate with superb actors from other countries (like Ken Watanabe, Joe Odagiri, Rie Miyazawa, Koyuki etc. have done).

Tokyograph reported 'Norwegian Wood' by Haruki Murakami will soon be adapted into a movie. Murakami is one of my favorite authors. If ever 'Sputnik Sweetheart' is made into a movie, I would like to see Juri play the character of Sumire. It's a complicated role that Juri can sink her teeth into. :)

Yes, I do post in D-addicts intermittently. Let's see if your hunch is right...lol
