Ugk. Well today sucked so far as writing. Fireworks ruled, had an awesome party, almost got killed a couple times, but the writing suffered. I mean, I'm still ahead of the game and whatever, but I only wrote about 1,100 words today, which is a major drop off. I'm gonna go brush my teeth and get ready for bed, and who knows, maybe I'll suddenly decide to write another 1,000 words right before bed.
It also might have to do with the fact that I don't entirely like the character that this section is focusing on.
Is that a really bad thing? Uuhhhhh it might be. *paces around* I dunno. I have a feeling the more I write him the more I'll like him, but I'm not sure.  I mean, if an author doesn't like a character, I bet it shows up right? But I understand his characterization, and his motives and his emotions and why he does what he does...

I'm officially blaming the fireworks for the fact I'm completely distracted and haven't gotten my full word count for the day yet. (Yeah, it's after 1 a.m., and they're still going. Gotta love college towns.)

Of course, the fact I spent an hour or so looking up Russian patronymics (for a minor character at that!) probably didn't help matters any...

Hope everyone else is doing better than I am!

And now for something completely different...

So I'm off to a rocky start. I have NO idea what the plot is going to be, just the sex >_< So here's an excerpt so far:
---
"You needn't be so hesitant around me, I don't bite." She flashed a
lascivious grin, and I swear it almost looked like she had fangs in
the backlit bar top. Those piercing, brilliant eyes though. I had
to remind myself to breathe under that mind-numbing gaze. Being near
her awakened desire in me that I had thought long since dead. I almost
hated to admit it but I secretly wished she would pin me down to that
bar and take me in any way she wanted. I felt like an open book under
those burning eyes.

My mind somersaulted in an attempt to find a response. Finally a shred
of common sense kicked in. "Ah...I'm Kitina," I stammered
pathetically. I blushed and turned back to my drink, nursing a long
sip through the straw.

She held a hand out to me in response. "Selene," she murmured. When I
offered my hand she took me gently and kissed the back of my hand,
staring up at me with a pulse-pounding smirk and an intense, almost
feral look in her eyes. "And for what reason do you patronize this
particular locale?"

In the deep recesses of my mind, the courtship rituals of our species
indicated that I should play this cool. "I came to see you sing," I
blurted out robotically. So much for courtship rituals. I was helpless
to her wiles already, and I was certain she hadn't even tried to turn
on the charm. How could I be so enthusiastic about a woman that I
didn't know when my fear of intimacy screamed at me from the
background?
---
So, let's just hope some plot hits me in the head soon....

For the first time since Julno started, I am ahead on my word count. I actually kinda cheated and counted what I wrote at 4:30 this morning in yesterday's wc. I figured that since it was before dawn, it was still Friday night. It was only like 200 words.

Found out some neat things about my characters today. The minor character that I created entirely for the purpose of killing off decided to reveal that her younger sister has cancer. Man, I felt bad killing her after that. I felt bad enough that I decided not to give the gory details, so she technically won't be dead until I reveal that two or three scenes from now. Also, the MC who thinks his dad and brother have gone insane turns out to be the one who is actually mentally ill. He's got a fairly bad case of PTSD but he, of course, doesn't know it has a name. And my other MC agrees with me that "smited" should totally be a word. He has quite the sense of humor about the whole getting-struck-by-lightning thing.
