| I mean, come on, it has 'James' in the title... |
[ July 31st, 2008 • 7:35pm ] |
Maybe the lyrics don't fit perfectly, but this song reminds me of James at a bunch of different bits - when he's got his head stuffed in the chair after countless rejections from Lily, or when he finally gets her to go out with him, or after the funeral, or when he and Lily are living together and he's trying to be all responsible ("Oh dear, James, are you cooking? I wish you wouldn't.") And I just like it.
Download (incredibly and astoundingly legal) & lyrics under the cut.

"Death and All His Friends" by Coldplay -Very much a wartime James/Lily song... it goes along with where we are right now in SBP. No I don't wanna battle from beginning to end I don't want a cycle of recycled revenge I don't wanna follow Death and all his friends... And in the end We lie awake, and we dream of making our escape
"42" by Coldplay -Not exactly Shoeboxy, but this is post Sirius' death, from Lupin's POV Those who are dead are not dead They're just living my head oh… And since I fell for that spell I am living there as well... You thought you might be a ghost You didn't get to heaven but you made it close
"Live High" by Jason Mraz -Gillyweed chapter from James POV! I try to picture a girl Through a looking glass See her as a carbon atom See her eyes and stare back at them... The call of the wild is still an ordination... Celebrate the malleable reality

| "I get it... I'm rocks." |
[ May 14th, 2008 • 8:20pm ] |
So this is the song I will forever associate with Remus (apart from the first stanza of the song, which is a bit off topic for SBP).
Interpol- "A Time To Be So Small" Sample: We saw you in distraction: a sleeping, slow despair Rehearsing interaction, he wasn't even there A creature is a creature, Though you wish you were the wind The boat will not stop moving if you tie him up until the end
He [Sirius, ahem] whistles and he runs so hold him fast Breathe the burn, you want to let it last He might succumb to what you haven't seen He has a keen eye for what you used to be
Enjoy! Commenting not necessary (unless there's a problem with the link! It's my first time doing the whole yousendit kind of thing).

My Love Has Gone- Josh Rouse |

For Christmas, I made a friend a Shoebox mix and now I've decided to share it with you lovely people! This is going to be the longest post in history, because I have a song(s) for each part and I included the quotes that inspired each song...you've been warned. So here is about 2 hours worth of Shoeboxy goodness in music form. This is my first fan mix so be kind (and I can't take all the credit, I got some ideas from previously suggested songs). Enjoy! Let's hope this cut works because I'm not too tech savvy...

A song that reminded me of R/S when I heard it today by a fabulous band called "Okkervil River."
I saw them in concert. Before this song, Will said "This song is about being a kid and being in love with your best friend."

I like music of 30-50th of the last century "unfashionably" and "retro", but I found like-minded persons, created a group and appeared, that our music very befits contemporaneity. how does it seem to you?

Hey first post. Well I'm a french-canadian and this french song reminds me so much of Sirius and Remus so here are the lyrics and the translation.
Pierre Lapointe: Moi Je T'Aimerai

Let me just say that I'm so excited that this group is here! There has been this one song that reminds me of Sirius/Remus every time I hear it, but no one I know reads Shoebox and none of them understand why I love it so much. The song's called Brothers on a Hotel Bed by Death Cab for Cutie. I don't know how to leave a link... if I figure it out, I will definitely put it up here.
Lyrics: You may tire of me as our December sun is setting because I'm not who I used to be No longer easy on the eyes but these wrinkles masterfully disguise The youthful boy below who turned your way and saw Something he was not looking for: both a beginning and an end But now he lives inside someone he does not recognize When he catches his reflection on accident On the back of a motor bike With your arms outstretched trying to take flight Leaving everything behind But even at our swiftest speed we couldn't break from the concrete In the city where we still reside. And I have learned that even landlocked lovers yearn for the sea like navy men Cause now we say goodnight from our own separate sides Like brothers on a hotel bed

I've always thought this song was very sweet and sad and oddly poignant, and for whatever reason, it really reminds me of Shoebox. Most especially the beach chapter. Who knows? Give it a listen.

So... I made a Shoebox Project Fan Mix. It is by no means original- a majority of these songs have already been mentioned in this community already. But I figured that since I already had this soundtrack made, it wouldn't hurt to upload it to share. It doesn't have any cover art (either because of my lack of knowledge concerning any of the major photoediting programs or my own laziness- you decide), and my personal descriptions kind of suck. But alas, here it is:

Sixteen Military Wives - The Decemberists |
] |
At long last, I have completed my first ever fanmix. This Remus/Sirius mix follows their stay at Hogwarts as told by Shoebox. For simplicity's sake (this is already 78mb) I included songs that I felt best represented key phases in the development of their relationship and their growth as individuals. The mix ends where the story now stands, at the end of Part 25. Therefore, we have a happy ending that some of us may appreciate, especially after reading Deathly Hallows. Enjoy!

| Shoebox-inspired Remus/Sirius mix: Time is Best When it Stops |
[ July 23rd, 2007 • 2:21pm ] |
Good day, all! I am finally getting around to posting this here. I made it a couple of weeks before DH came out, partly because summertime always gets me in the mood for cute, carefree, Hogwarts-age Remus/Sirius with some angst at the end (so very much my thing) and partly because I was afraid of what DH may bring and needed one last chance to revel in what could still be considered canon. As such, there are no spoilers here, though you should hardly be online if you haven't finished reading! Tsk.

Question: Is it the lyrics or the melody of a song that makes you think of Shoebox/Sirius/Remus/Lily/James/Peter? Or both?
I guess it's both. Mostly it's the lyrics that make me think of Shoebox/characterX, but sometimes there are songs that just feel like it, you know? Like, "Heretics" by Andrew Bird just sounds like Sirius/Remus to me, but the lyrics make no sense with the ship. (Except maybe the lines "pratfalls can be fun" and "wait just a second now - it's not all that bad! are we not having fun?") So I guess I'm just wondering if anyone else does this.
Plus, I think I might have to make a mix of just Sirius/Remus-sounding songs.

I just have one song to suggest and I need to share it, or I might explode. The lyrics are pretty generic and can apply to everyone and everything, but I think it's the melody that I love best. I'm not going to bother analyzing the lyrics as you can do that for yourselves. If only to put my wee imput, the words are very confined, as is the literal meaning. I don't know why, but it strikes me as Remus/Sirius everytime I listen to it. =)
It's a very beautiful song, and I recommend you take a listen, whether it reminds you of SBP or not. Again - it's on my server, right click save as.

You kids are lucky fish today. I have two gorgeous tracks for you that I have been fangirling over for quite some time.
Though I legitimately hate to spread my indie love nowadays, since it ends up on Grey's Anatomy (they did it to snow patrol and they JUST did it to Feist, I want to kick some ass), I think you guys deserve it.

"January's Little Joke" the Trashcan Sinatras |
] |
There's this song, see, called "Even the Odd," by the Trashcan Sinatras, and every time I hear it the first line strikes me as so very Remus. It just completely covers how Remus considers himself the misfit of the group, how everyone else considers Remus the misfit of the group, and how he protests to nefarious plots (because he feels he has to, on account of his vaunted prefectly virtue) but in the end goes along with them anyway. And maybe later into the song, it begins to sound a bit like his relationship with Sirius. I can't decide if I'm reading too much into the lyrics at that point.

It's here, if you're interested.

Song for Clay- Bloc Party |
] |
So, some time ago, like back in December, the lovely hype45 posted "Helicopter", by Bloc Party, here, because, you see, Bloc Party is All Things Shoeboxy. Really, they are. Anyway. As a lover of Bloc Party, I just downloaded the remix of their Silent Alarm CD. And, to my great surprise, "Helicopter" has been remixed with, you guessed it (or actually, you probably didn't, but still) wolf howls in the beginning. Yes, wolf howls. It spells M-O-O-N-Y now more than ever. Linkage.
Let me know when it expires and I can reload it!
