New characters are appreciated, but old ones are welcomed with open arms. A format like this is sure to have conflict and homey rp, as well as rp in various settings. Inspired by National Novel Writing Month and based on a suggestion from Oren Nillu, we're celebrating the anniversary of Chiaroscuro by running the first-ever Chiaroscuro Story Writing Month, or ChiStoWriMo!

The goal's not quite as ambitious as NaNoWriMo's 50,000-word novel. Instead, we just want to aim for each participant writing a single 5,000 word story set in the world of Chiaroscuro.

Finish your story by Dec. 31, get the word count confirmed, and you'll receive 5,000 Chia Credits.

Rather than go through the arduous process of shipping Red-Eye Flight off to agents or would-be publishers, which could take years, I've decided to use Cafepress.com to produce the book via print-on-demand technology.

So, once the first official OtherSpace novel is finished, I'll put it up for sale through Cafepress.com. Cost will depend on the size of the book (not huge, by most standards) and the type of binding.

Ideally, we'll have the book ready for sale well before Christmas.

During the past six years, we've invited quite a few people on our games at jointhesaga.com to ... how shall I put it? ... seek entertainment elsewhere. Just to spotlight a few:

- The guy who couldn't stop shouting "FAGORT!" on our Public discussion channel.
- The guy who kept walking in and out of roleplaying scenes, kicking people for no apparent reason.
- The guy who blew up La Terre.
- The guy who kept ejecting out of starships that didn't belong to him.
- The guy who got assassinated and then embarked on a campaign of truth to bring us all down, rarely to be heard from again while our games prospered.
- Every guy who ever wrote a terrible bio - from the Godfather pimp to Zizu the monster slayer.

From now until Nov. 3, however, we're opening the doors of our games to these people again. Why would we do such a thing? Why? Simple! For all their faults, none of these people has ever, to our knowledge:

- Driven a world superpower into record-setting deficits.
- Launched a war against a country without any evidence that it had done harm or intended harm to the United States, thus creating a chaotic situation in that country so that now there's ample evidence people who dwell there want to harm the United States.
- Imprisoned people without due process.
- Overseen the worst economy since Herbert Hoover.
- Purposefully, repeatedly and stubbornly mispronounced the word "nuclear."
- Suffered difficulty chewing a pretzel to such a degree that they nearly choked on it.

That's right. None of these people are George W. Bush. For that reason alone, I'm lifting the moratorium for one week only. If players who aren't George W. Bush want to come back into the fold at jointhesaga.com's games - OtherSpace, Chiaroscuro and Reach of the Empire - they're invited to do so. Just log on, create a character and get back into the mix. If a sitelock is in place, drop me a note at wes@jointhesaga.com so I can remove it.

Remember: This offer is only good until Nov. 3. Because, after that, if all goes well, George W. Bush will have all kinds of free time to play MUDs ... and I'll want to let him in too.

This is an open invitation to *all* players of OtherSpace, Chiaroscuro and Star Wars: Reach of the Empire who have ever had a character die in the course of our storylines to join the mini-MUSH at Chiaroscuro known as the Dead-Like MU*. Here, your characters can exist in a netherworld without taskrolls, without luck cards, and without the chance of dying, since you're already dead. Dead characters also get building privileges within the Dead-Like MU* areas, so they can help shape the environment in which they dwell.

Sitting just off the southern shore of the Fastheld River across from Wedgecrest and next to Balak's Pillars, the Mikin settlement of Light's Crossing has been established by Orell Mikin. The town can be reached by river or on land using the shoreline - with a link to Market Road provided by the newly constructed Mikin Bridge. Light's Crossing also has been added to the River District carriage route.
