Martha - love gone & a tyrannt appears
Just a quick heads up that the one year anniversary competition ends this Sunday.
A wallpaper or two icons is all that's required and you could win either the very shiny season five box set of 24, or the equally shiny but more svelte "Best of" Designing Women.
The competition main entry is *here*.
Go on, give it a whirl, at the worst you can flog the DVD on ebay, at best you have something to pass the time (and pretty Jean to look at) on Christmas day when everyone else is sound asleep post turkey.

Any questions, feel free to ask.
We are open to extending the date if people need more time, but please do mention it to one of us otherwise this Sunday will be the closing.
Jean - Look at her pretty Emmy
I had every intention of posting this last night but then we had an electrical storm in my part of the world and for the sake of not losing my laptop to a blast of lightning down the phone line, I had to turn everything off.

Anyway, one day later we have the details of the one-off [info]jsdaily competition to celebrate our first year on LJ.

4th-Jun-2008 10:33 pm - Blogathon 2008... anyone game?
Jean / Emmy win :D
Okay everyone, this is just a feeler post to see if there's any interest.

For the past four years, myself and some online friends have been participating in Blogathon. The premise is that you stay awake for 24 hours, blogging every half hour, to raise money for a charity. In the weeks leading up to the 'thon, people sponsor you by pledging however much money they wish. (Think of it like a walk-a-thon, only with a lump sum instead of "per mile", so to speak). It's a LOT of fun, especially if you make it the full 24 hours!

Anyway, Tess and I were pondering doing it this year at jsdaily.net, but sadly, Blogathon is not happening this year. :( Luckily, there is an LJ community, [info]blogathon_2008 that is organizing a LiveJournal-specific 'thon this year. Same concept -- we'll get sponsors to pledge us, stay up 24 hours posting on [info]jsdaily, and at the end of the day, collect donations from everyone who's pledged and make our contribution to a charity of our choice. Blogathon 2008 is July 26/27, 9AM-9AM EST.

If there's any interest here, I think a great charity would be something to do with Alzheimer's awareness, since Jean is an active advocate and supporter as well.

So, again, since this is just to gauge interest:

- Who would be interested in blogging? If we have enough people, we don't all have to stay up 24 hours -- we can blog in shifts, you can just blog a few times, etc etc.
- Who would be interested in pledging/sponsoring us?
- Who would be interested in cheering us on the day of the 'thon?
And yes, you can do all three -- I know I will be! ;)

As for what we'll be doing to stay awake for 24 hours... I was thinking recapping SW?, 24, or just posting picspam every half hour. ;)
25th-May-2008 06:57 pm - Mod Post! and big news!
Designing Women - Charlene *call
Hey everyone! Hope everyone is enjoying their weekends.

We have a big announcement here at [info]jsdaily, one that is going to take effect in a few weeks.

If you haven't already checked out http://jsdaily.net since yesterday morning, you'll notice a big change -- the main site is now a blog.
For the next few weeks, until we get everything more established over at the domain, we'll be mirroring the LJ with the blog. We want to see how everything works and maybe after the first couple of weeks, get your feedback on how you guys are finding everything and what else you'd like to see.
For example, do you think some things worked better here at lj? that kind of thing.

There are two reasons we're doing all this:

1) Not all of Jean's fans have LiveJournals. We're missing out on a huge chunk of the fanbase by staying at LJ and not getting the word out to the 24 fansites, the SW? fansites, etc etc.
2) Nobody else can find us here! ;D Everything here is private at the moment: the LiveJournal, the forums, and the gallery, so we don't show up on Google Alerts anymore unless you actually are looking for JSDaily. By having a regular blog, we'll get traffic coming in from people who are looking for the latest Samantha Who? news, the latest Youth In Revolt news, etc etc.

What we want to stress is that this is not a case of us picking everything up and leaving without you -- we want you all to come with us! Whether it's blogging with us at the new site, commenting with your responses, or continuing to post on the message boards with us, we don't want to lose you! Many of you have been with us from Day 1, and we couldn't have done any of this without you guys. The one thing we all have in common is our appreciation for Jean -- we're her #1 fans, after all! We have all of you to thank for making this community what it is today, and we're both hoping that you stick with us for the next part of this adventure.

Now, you might be thinking: "I don't have the time/patience/willpower to check another blog everyday! I loved the community because was right on my friends page!" Well, you don't even have to visit the blog if you don't want to. Just add [info]jsdailynet to your friends list, which is a syndication feed of all the blog posts at http://jsdaily.net, and you'll get the entries as they're posted on your friends' list, much like they do now when someone posts here.

Valerie and Tess.
22nd-May-2008 10:09 pm - 300 hits!
H&A / TOP SECRET
jsdaily.net has over 300 hits now, hooray! We have 58 unique visitors, and we're actually getting some Google traffic in. :P

We have over 2600 images in the gallery now; [info]roselafleur and I are taking a break from screencapping and working to get images from many of Jean's appearances such as the Emmys, her work for the Edwards campaign, and much, much more! You can view the latest uploaded images here.

The message board is also working out really well; our numbers are few at the moment but we're very active! ^_^ If you haven't already, stop on by and check things out!

We're also working on a media player to host audio such as interviews, etc. ;) (Yes, the infamous Balto song will be on there! :P) Stay tuned for that!

Don't forget that POTW is tomorrow, and we'll be uploading all the gorgeous past POTWs to the gallery as a permanent archive.

Happy six-month anniversary, [info]jsdaily!

If you haven't already checked it out, we have a new layout up! --> [info]jsdaily! Go check it out! We've also put a matching layout up on the community userinfo, which includes a clearer version of the rules so you don't have to keep finding the ancient modpost from last November. :D

We'll be posting throughout the day with more goodies. :D
24th-Apr-2008 07:24 pm - Poll Time!
Jean / Pre-GG Party
Hey everyone!

Exciting news -- [info]jsdaily turns SIX MONTHS OLD on May 8, 2008! Can you believe it? It seems like only yesterday that we were getting things set up.

Tess and I have some surprises planned for the big day which might include a new layout and some shiney commemorative icons and graphics, but in the long run, we're looking to expand the community to try and reach as many fans as possible, which means testing the waters outside of LiveJournal.

The two main additions we're considering are:

- A photogallery hosted off-site, full of Jean images. These include the exclusive scans that Tess has done, the screencaps we both have done, as well as anything anyone can donate. There are two things to keep in mind if we go this route:
a) Cost. We will need to buy the necessary space and hosting in order to do a project like this. If there is enough interest in starting this, if anyone would like to chip in a few dollars to help with the fees, that would be awesome.
b) Participation. We would need all need to work together on this in order for it to be a success. If we do this and nobody else is contributing, but is taking everything we put up, it's kind of a one-way street. We would need people to cap Jean's movies and TV shows, crawl around Wireimage, etc etc. Tess and I will not do all of the hard work on our own. It would be a huuuuge project but it would be very rewarding.

- A forum off-site. A slight problem with the community as it stands right now is that only a quarter of us are posting and commenting. Do you guys think a forum would be easier and more fun to use as a form of communication and news sharing? To those of you who read but don't post, would that pique your interest and get you posting? We would mirror all of the news and picture posts from here, but there would also be seperate areas to discuss all of Jean's projects (movie, tv, theater, and other appearances) as well as picture posts, media posts, and so on.

Anyway, enough blabbering on from me. Let us know what you think!

11th-Mar-2008 03:55 pm - Very Important Modpost
Sherry / Grumpy
I think it's time everyone took a moment to refresh themselves on the community rules. I've had to screen and freeze comments this week, and that does not make me a happy bunny. :(

Neither Tess nor myself want a restraining order slapped on us before we go to LA. So if you haven't read the rules (including an important edit added last February after our first incident and member who quit as a result), please do so now and familiarize yourself with them.

Bottom Line: We have no affiliation with Ms. Smart. Let's not act like we do and get our asses sued. XD

Thank you. :)

Formatting shit is so much fun. :D

H&A / TOP SECRET
Because I feel very silly about my misinformed last entry, here is another one, with pointless information:

January 8th was our two month anniversary!
We've posted 108 entries (including this one!)
We've received 410 comments
We have 18 members (but 19 people watching? What are they watching if the community is members-only? My mod!posts can't really be that fascinating!)
Top tags: samantha who? (34), 24 (18), politics (13)

and finally:

Jack Sparrow and Professor Snape singing together is awes.
