moleskin studies. Deadman was done on a really long car drive. The Second one was inspired by one of Francis Bacon's studies of Pope Innocent by Valesque. "I hate the tv" is based on one of my ongoing characters names Stephen. Enjoy! :D

i just posted this to [info]ticketride and thought i'd post here being as it's kinda like a journal... it's not very creative though, i got bored so i stapled all my tickets into a book :P the cover is horrible at the moment, so i'm probably gonna cover it with something soon. but anyway, here are my tickets from 2003 until recently...

YouTube Art Journal Vids [Jul. 10th, 2009|11:14 pm]

[music |"All My Loving" by Jim Sturgess, from Across the Universe]

Hallo all. c: I'm brandy-new: both to this community, and to the art of art journalling. I'm not sure how well this'll go, because I'm very, very (VERY) flighty and I tend to grow lax and leave projects incomplete. Hopefully, I'll be able to commit to art journalling. I just know I'd regret it if I never actually tried to do it.

Anyway, moving right along...

I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions when it came to YouTube videos that focus on art journalling techniques. I've found some with a quick skim-about, but a lot of them are very lengthy and the authors are horribly boring (they droned on and on about random shite, instead of focusing on the point of their video!).

I'm also open to your suggestions, though I find that visual explanations are best for my simple mind. :P

I don't really care what techniques are featured in the videos you wish to provide, I just want to know a bit more about what I can do with my art journal once I get one!

Thank you, you guys. I hope I turn out at least one complete art journal to show you all.

Take care, and may the muse be with you!

Newbie with some questions [Jul. 9th, 2009|02:16 pm]

Hey guys!

I've been lurking this community looking at the gorgeous designs some people make (I envy your creativity) and now that I have a Moleskine of my own I've decided to join!

I have some questions:
1. What pens do you guys use on your journals?
I have two Lamy pens: one for M63 inks and one for M66 (both rollerball-point pens). They're good, but I'm wondering what every one else uses.

2. When you start a page... do you do a sketch first or just "whatever comes out"?
I'm afraid if I do the latter I'll mess up a good clean page and you can't rip them out D:

Does anyone have any recipes that are their all time favorite? Or know any sites where I could find recipes? I'm making a cookbook out of the book Peaches for my mom for christmas. (i know it's early, but I'm making 4 books, one for each family memeber so it'll take a while) i have a lot of 'joke' recipes (pb and j, water, ice, etc) so if you can come up with anything it'd be great!

[music |"Selah" by Lauryn Hill]

So I've posted here a few times before, mostly just scraps of stuff. I finally motivated myself to start an art journal. It's been going okay so far. I really love the idea of an art journal and hope I can keep up with it. I'm really determined to, because many of my journals in the past have failed. A lot of the pages are unfinished.
Here are images from the journal:

Anyway, I'm only a few pages into my new journal and already starting to struggle a little bit. I can usually think of enough stuff to put in there, but composition is a big problem for me. I really want the layout of the pages to be visually appealing. (My sketchbook is 7x10 if that matters.) I tend to lack creativity. Any tips?
I also wanted to say how much I love this community. I get a lot of my inspiration from here. Everyone is so unbelievably creative. An embarrasing amount of my time is spent looking through the archives. So thank you, everyone :)

prompts, inspiration, all-round wickedness. [Jul. 8th, 2009|08:14 am]

[reposted from [info]passthesky w permission]

This post is entirely about prompts. I'm sure some of these have been in the circulation on the web for a while now, while others seem to have appeared only recently. (I google this subject thoroughly every couple of weeks or so. :P) I don't often turn to prompts, to be honest, but I like knowing that I've got a few in my collection, should the journalling block strike. So below is a list of links I've accumulated in the last two years or so. I hope you'll find them useful. Feel free to share yours in the comments, there can never be enough prompts!

Some of these are aimed at children's classwork, but I found them quite compelling too:

http://www.canteach.ca/elementary/prompts.html
http://www.superteacherworksheets.com/journal-prompts.html

The lady's a personal coach, and she keeps a journalling prompts category on her blog. Some of these are really great. I found myself staring in the distance pondering the question immediately. Don't forget to visit sites & articles that are linked to, some great stuff there too:

A journalling jar craft idea. Or you can just use the prompt list provided. Works just as well for personal use. Look at the list of resources at the end:
