JD on a stamp [04 Jan 2009|05:44pm]

aquila0212
Gang, some friends have asked that I forward this around -- it's a letter petitioning the stamps advisory committee to put John on a stamp. He's now eligible. Would you consider signing (or writing your own letter, if you'd prefer), printing and sending this on? Thanks in advance.

Dear Sir or Madam:

Please consider issuing a commemorative stamp honoring the singer-songwriter John Denver (born in Roswell, NM on 12/31/43; died Monterey Bay, CA 10/12/97). He was a great American environmentalist, conservationist, and humanitarian who strived endlessly to create peace, end hunger, save our natural resources, protect wildlife, and support the US Citizen in Space Program. His music and message is known worldwide, plus he was one of the top 5 recording artists in music history.

Many dedications in John's honor through tributes, concerts, books, newsletters and websites created and contributed to by his millions of fans and followers are still in existence today, 11 years after his tragic demise.

John Denver is embedded in our American culture, and his message and legacy still live on - and will forever.

Thank you for your consideration for this deserving and worthy pursuit.

Sincerely,

I wanted to share a lovely tribute a friend of mine made. The music is Yellowstone, the last song John wrote, recorded with the Houston Symphony Orchestra three weeks before his death:

And this one is mine -- with photographs I took in Alaska in 2006:

Remembering John - Dec 31, 1943 - Oct 12, 1997 [12 Oct 2008|11:35am]

John Denver was one of the greatest advocates for nature, wildlife, and the planet. John, we so miss you...we could really use your voice for the planet now!

I'm with you in singing skies and dancing waters
Laughing children growing old
And in the heart and in the spirit
And in the truth when it is told

--Singing Skies and Dancing Waters

Now some say he was crazy and some are glad he's gone
But some of us miss him and well try to carry on
Giving a voice to the forest, giving a voice to the dawn
Giving a voice to the wilderness and the land that he lived on

--Wild Montana Skies

From the life to the light
From the dark of the night to the dawn
He is so in my heart
He is here he could never be gone
Though the singer is silent
There still is the truth of the song

--On the Wings of a Dream

"This Old Guitar" [16 May 2008|12:27am]

kozmicblues01
I was listening to "This Old Guitar" by John Denver today. I guess I never really listened to the lyrics that closely for like my whole life until just today. And the song is really beautiful... but there's a part in it that severely bugs me!

"All the things you know I love to do
To serenade the stars that shine
From a sunny mountainside

Most of all to sing my songs for you"

....What?
I guess JD must have missed that... I don't know. Maybe, is there something behind it..?

They had a lovely special about John Denver on two nights ago, I think on KET... unfortunately, I was barely able to enjoy even a few minutes of it because I was very sick, but I had a moment in between sickness where his singing made me cry.

Belated. [30 Dec 2007|02:28pm]

[ music | Eagle and the Hawk ]

I come to give a belated wishing of good holidays. I apologise for the timing.

Something that I've given a fair bit of thought to is that even though I think John would be bewildered (vast understatement) by the state of the world, he would still have hope. As long as there would be a creature breathing, he wouldn't give up.

I think that is expressed in so many songs.

Him, his music brings an inability to articulate what is felt, what is desired to be expressed. What wants to be said, to be done feels so expansive that it doesn't know where to begin. The sense of passion and wonder is so strong, it becomes overwhelming.

In where I ramble slightly. )

About to travel in CO Rockies, need tips [17 Aug 2007|12:33pm]

tnsechick
Hello! Shh, don't tell my punk rock or goth friends, but I do own John Denver music and even had "Annie's Song" as the solo for my wedding. :-)

But I am posting here today to see if anyone can give me a little travel advice? (x-posted in LJ Travel)

Don't laugh at me, but I'm 36 and Durango/Silverton is all I have ever seen of the Rockies, one time, 11 years ago. HOWEVER, my husband and I are very excited to be heading to SW CO in a few weeks!

Is there anyone who loves this area and can make recomendations? (or give warnings, like, what is up with "elevation sickness"?? for real?) Places to stay have already been booked.

We are flying into Denver, renting a convertible, and mostly plan to drive around and enjoy the mountains (and other places) and the aspens turning to yellow. We'll go west on 70, turn south at Glenwood Springs, and go to Snowmass for a bit, not staying. Going back around to Marble. Then, out to the Black Canyon, turning south again at Montrose, and down to Ouray. About 3 days in the Ouray area. Then, over to Telluride (but not staying) and down to Cortez. Skipping Mesa Verde (done that) but going to Durango (skipping the train, we've done that, too). Staying north of there at Cascade Village. At end of trip, going back up north to Delta for the Council Powwow. Then, over to Gunnison, and finally back to Denver to leave. Whew.

We especially need restaurant recommendations, and hiking tips.

Thanks for any info you can share!

May I ask if anyone knows off-hand of a legal site where I could get John Denver MP3 downloads for free? Don't bother to inconvenience yourself by searching the web and such. But if you happen to already know of such a place online that would allow me to do this, I would appreciate your sharing it immensely! :)
Thanks for your time!

-Katie

PS. It's a 90 degree day over here and I'd love to put John's "Sticky Summer Weather" onto my iPod. :) I listened to it on Rhapsody but I'd like to be able to download it, if possible.

"Rocky Mountain High" is not about drugs.... [09 May 2007|07:49pm]

celebrate_91
Whoever is debating this, please stop this very moment! All you have to do is watch John's Wildlife Concert and see what he says about this song. "Rocky Mountain High" is expressing how great he felt in the mountains....he says so himself. And he wouldn't say that if he didn't mean it. Did you know that Colorado used to be called "The Highest State?" But that was before all this drug-business started and they decided they couldn't keep the name. Now it is the Centennial State.

But my point is, for anyone who wishes to say that the song is about drugs....watch the Wildlife Concert! See what the man who actually wrote the song has to say about it! :D

Best to you all!

Truly sorry... [27 Apr 2007|07:26pm]

celebrate_91
For anyone who may have read my last entry (which I just finished deleting, BTW) about free John Denver song downloads, I want to apologize for posting it. I didn't know at the time that it was illegal to share my songs with you. I am sorry if I got any of your hopes up and I truly did not want to disappoint any one of you. Exactly the opposite, in fact, was intended! I wanted to share all of my John Denver songs with you for free but as it turns out, I am not able to do that. My friend, Ann, enlightened me on a few things concerning that and once again, I apologize if I have caused any letdowns to any of you.
I would be sharing all of my songs with you now if it was not for the fact that it is against the law to do so.
However, I can give you some directions, which I find very useful, for getting videos on You Tube converted into MP3's. I am sorry that that is all I can do. If you would like the directions, please contact me at katiedecastro@yahoo.com and I will be more than happy to send you them via e-mail. :)

The best of wishes to all of you and have a wonderful night! :D

Always,
Katie

Hey, everybody! Wanna reduce gas cost? Help pass this e-mail along.....Together we can make a world of difference! :D And I guess this is just one of 'em ways....! ;)
