With her triumphant espousal of the Gurkhas' cause, a much-loved actress has added political clout to her very English brand of charm.

The idea began on Twitter. Then the blogs took it up. Finally the notion ended up on the front page of the one newspaper in a headline three inches high. Joanna Lumley for Prime Minister, was the message.

The weight of the political blow dealt to Gordon Brown by Britain's most effortlessly elegant actress this week left political commentators grasping for similes. The victory of Joanna Lumley's campaign to get the Government to reconsider its refusal to allow the British Army's former Gurkha soldiers the right to settle in the United Kingdom was, said one of our most seasoned political pundits, equivalent to six by-election defeats in terms of the damage that it does to the authority of the PM.

Stunning actress Joanna Lumley is not afraid of ageing in a business that demands perfection. At 62, the most glamorous of grandmothers tells Sarah Caden about dyeing her hair, going without food for days -- and why she won't be giving up smoking.

Comic Relief 2009 will feature the last ever French & Saunders film spoof as Dawn French, Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley romp through their Mamma Mia! sequel with Philip Glenister and Alan Carr as two prospective fathers to young Sienna Miller.

Joanna must be playing Tanya, given Dawn & Jennifer are playing....

Joanna participates in National Doodle Day yet again. Celebrities donate their doodles, they go up for auction, and the money goes to Epilepsy Action and Neurofibromatosis research. The auction will take place on Ebay on February 27th. This is the one Joanna has donated for this year's auction.

And here you can see her entries from previous years: http://www.nationaldoodleday.org.uk/celebs/doodle.cfm?doodle=Joanna%20Lumley

I'm just going to take this opportunity to promote the Joanna Lumley forum again.
Lately it's been rather quiet, even though I think there are enough Joanna fans around. So if you want to express your fandom and talk about anything that has to do with Joanna, then join the forum :D
We've got loads of nice downloads too, which might interest some people

By Jackie McGlone

She has disarmed gunmen on and off screen, survived alone on a desert island and helped a group of Gurkhas take on the state, but Joanna Lumley is even tougher than that – she's a Scot

From the Guardian newspaper online :-

Joy of Six - What are the best bits of Joanna Lumley's TV Career ?

Disclaimer: the following article will momentarily disappoint two sets of fans. Firstly because we're going chronological today. Sorry, rankings fans. And although the Joy in this Six is all about Joanna Lumley, whose status as a national institution was founded on her role as Patsy Stone in Absolutely Fabulous, we're not going to talk about Ab Fab. Apologies, Ab Fab fans. But let's be honest here: what hasn't been said before? In a blatant and probably rather sad attempt to appease the Ab-Fabbers among you, here's one of my favourite moments to keep you going.

Anyway, on to six other equally joyous milestones in Lumley's TV career.

As part of the BBC's annual Children in Need charity fundraiser, Terry Wogan's auction on Radio 2 for "Things Money Can't Buy" includes the following :-

LUNCH WITH JOANNA LUMLEY

The package is for you and three friends to have lunch with Joanna Lumley and Sir Terry Wogan at Richard Corrigan's restaurant, Bentley's.  Package details:

*At a date to be arranged next year, you and three friends will come to London for a leisurely lunch with two national treasures – Sir Terry Wogan and Joanna Lumley.
*Lunch will be served in the elegance of Bentley’s Restaurant, which is owned by Michelin starred chef Richard Corrigan.
*You’ll be met and chauffeur driven to the exclusive eatery – by a Bentley of course!
*There you will join Terry and Joanna in a private room for several hours of eating and chatting.
*We'll arrange photos at the event so you have a reminder of the great day.
*You’ll need to get yourselves to and from London but we’ll then get you to lunch.

It will be auctioned by live telephone bids on Wake Up With Wogan - BBC Radio 2 - on Wednesday 12th November.  This annual auction usually raises staggering bids for charity, so I expect this will go for several thousands !!

Also, heads up for UK viewers - BBC4 are repeating "The New Avengers" from the start this Thursday at 7.40pm.  The first time it has aired on TV for about 15 years !

And on a different note, Joanna is the star guest on "Al Murray's Happy Hour" - this Friday @ 10pm on ITV1 - no doubt publicising the cause & encouraging people to sign the petition.

"Her passion for the Gurkhas' cause has been tireless, it has known no bounds.  She is a true honour to her father."High Court ruling means a national treasure will be staying in Britain after all........ )

THIS week Joanna Lumley is campaigning for the Gurkhas. After trying to free Tibet, save the orangutan, help the elderly and end animal cruelty, why has the actress become a one-woman protest pin-up?

* * *

Joanna joined in the Ghurka protest last week in London. Many of them, who risked their life fighting for Britain, are at risk of being deported back to Nepal. Joanna, who's father fought in the Ghurka regiment, participated in the demonstration and she appeared on BBC breakfast on September 16 to discuss the matter.
Joanna has taken her protest to the next level. She now claims she will hand back her British passport if the Ghurka's lose their battle.
She says: "I was born in India; I had to pay to belong to this country. I was a British subject but not a citizen. If they despise them so much then they can despise me."

Did you see it, Lovely Lumley Lovers?  On BBC tv last night, a stunning documentary starring Joanna on her journey to find the Northern Lights. Programmes such as this are the reason I'm happy to pay my television licence. Goddess, this woman absolutely is fabulous!

Most of you are probably familiar with Philippa who's a mod over at the Joanna Lumley forum, and has a wide selection of videos uploaded to YouTube... well, she's started a new website dedicated to Joanna!
http://www.freewebs.com/joannalumley/index.htm

It's still new so give it some time and she'll add much more!

She would ban celebrity magazines, teach girls to sew and, oh yes, bring back national service. Joanna Lumley proves she is more bluestocking than bombshell, says Bryony Gordon.
