Summer GCF Wednesday Studies

current location: Remsen Hall, Johns Hopkins University

Our study of the Passion accounts has ended. This week we shall be having a social time, but what should we study in the remaining weeks of summer? Are there any short topics you would like to delve into? Any video series you would like to watch?

For reference, the following is a list of our previous studies, copied from our website.

In previous polls, the majority of you desired to study one of the Books of OT History next. We have recently looked into Joshua, Judges, and Samuel, so that leaves us with Kings/Chronicles and Ezra/Nehemiah. But it seems to me that that would work better for the Fall Semester when it begins.

So then, what are all your thoughts?

The new GCF Semester begins this Wednesday. We are going to have at least one study, which will be on the Passion Week. The question is, shall we do another (which would be a journey through the books of Kings)? Please take 5 seconds to vote:

I corrected a problem that required you to also by a member of the [info]jhu_gcf group before voting. Now anyone should be able to vote in the poll.

If you attended this year's fall retreat, please take the survey below. Answers will be confidential except to the GCF leadership team, so we can better plan the coming years' retreats. If you make a comment, it will also be invisible to the other readers. Thanks!

To vote in these polls, you first need to join LJ (for free; you can join and never ever feel obligated to keep a blog) and be logged in. Just click here.

What are your thoughts on that quote? Do you agree or disagree?

Our website (http://www.jhu.edu/gcf) maintains a list of churches attended by current and former members. It has not been updated in a long while, and I would like to remedy that.

Please comment below naming the churches you all attend. Thanks!

    Outline )
  • Genealogical comparison
    1. Matthew 1:1-17
    2. Luke 3:23-38

  • Discussion
    1. How many names are found in Matthew's genealogy? How many should there be? Is this an "error" in Scripture?
    2. Compare Matthew's genealogy with the one in Chronicles? Is this an "error" in Scripture?
    3. What is the purpose of Matthew's genealogy? What is the purpose of Luke's genealogy?
    4. Why do the two genealogies contain different names?
    5. What is significant about Matthew 1:16? about Luke 3:23?
    6. What is significant about the four women mentioned by Matthew? (Women were usually not included in genealogies.)
    7. What is significant of how Matthew's genealogy begins? What is significant about how Luke's genealogy ends?
