Screen Caps: The Picture of Dorian Gray
Here are some screen caps of JB as the artist Basil Hallward in The Picture of Dorian Gray.

Same rules: Don't hotlink; Do save and use as you wish. 25 large images in each post - Dial-up beware!

Some highlights of this performance:

- Copious amounts of Brett chest
- Wolverine sideburns
- That tongue thing
- He doesn't smoke at all
- Rather hilarious ending (not in a good way)
- Spot the special guest star crossover from Sherlock Holmes!

Pt. 1

Pt. 2

Pt. 3

Pt. 4

Wow... moustache! It's really weird to see him with facial hair ^_^ Thanks for posting :)

Yeah - I think he's moustached in Rebecca, too. But I think I prefer him smooth.

So, how was it? I assume from the unintentionally hilarious ending that it wasn't much good, but I have some slight hope... ;-)

Oh - it's worth seeing. JB's performance is good (except perhaps right before the getting stabbed in the neck thing - a little overdone). Gielgud is brilliant playing a bitter old flamer with a corrupting influence on the easily corrupted Dorian. Dorian's lips annoyed me, though. And it was put on as part of BBC's Play of the Month series. So it really does just look like a play that was filmed (though the sets are substantial). Which means overacting all around. I mean, that kind of thing is perfectly fine for the stage, but on film it comes off as a being bit over the top.

Also: has anyone gotten hold of the (1960?) production with Jeremy as Dorian?

Ok... I'm new to the obsession.

What is the deal with the tounge?

Who was the Sherlock Holmes cross over?

And WOW nice chest. I like it!

Thanks for all the screen caps! They are great to see.

Well, it all kind of started with [info]whorl making these clips of JB in Macbeth doing this tongue thing. Now whenever I can catch his tongue in a screen cap, I do. :D

The very last cap is of the guy who played Dr. Trevelyan in The Resident Patient. Again playing a doctor here, Dorian blackmails him into getting rid of the "evidence" of his crime.

Yes, the trousers - did you catch the little rump action in one or two of those? ;-)

And the dressing gown - the pics don't really do it justice.

Yes, and when he sat down and bumped (with his rump) a jar of brushes.......all I could think of was "ahhhhh, when glass meets a----" oh, never mind ;)

Why, yes it is! And he might as well have been called Dr. Trevelyan in this as well, because he looked and acted exactly the same - even played a doctor again.

....and his performance was just as wooden *snort*

Gielgud was great, but in the last scene did he not look like the OLDEST, UGLIEST queen on the planet?

...and the stabbing scene.....Jeremy was a wee bit OTT...but what fun anyway!

...and another Holmes cross-over..Aunt Lady Agatha was the dowager in the first scene with Jeremy in Master Blackmailer.

Hmmm. I really MUST find a hobby.

I just recently watched this (and soon will watch "An Ideal Husband" - whee!) and was amused by ol' JB's performance. it was odd to see him in such a needy role, given his aloofness in Sherlock Holmes.

lovely capping job (:

I just watched "An Ideal Husband" the other night - caps possibly to follow this weekend. He's very pretty in it, and mercifully smooth shaven.

Yay! You're awesome!

So how are you getting all this stuff? Are you buying these (cause I noticed that they come in an Oscar Wilde box set, this together with JB in An Ideal Husband and two other flicks), or are you Netflixing it? Just curious. :)

I finally broke down and joined Netflix (which is awesome!) because I just couldn't afford to keep buying DVD's. JB was breaking my meager bank! I'll eventually own all of the Sherlock Holmes series, and I'll probably buy the rarer stuff and whatever's not on DVD yet (just scored The Secret of Seagull Island on Ebay).
