Insanity Underrated: Author's Introduction and Index of Chapters

This was just one of those ideas that smacked me right in the face, grabbed me by the collar and yelled in my ear, "WRITE ME NOW, DAMMIT!" The night Insanity Underrated came to me, I typed the first chapter in about three hours straight, and by the next day had a rudimentary outline for an alternate universe, a universe in which Lee Adama recognizes and acts on his feelings for Kara Thrace far sooner than he did in canon. I've spent the last week fleshing out this outline with my wonderful best friend and beta reader, and I've got a plot now stretching from S1 to S4.

However, as much as Lee's recognizing his feelings earlier on becomes a part of this story, neither do I treat that plot point as a blanket excuse to pair two of my favourite characters together and in so doing destroy the universe that Ronald D. Moore and his collaboraters created. I have a great deal of respect for RDM & Co., and therefore you will find many, if not all, elements in this fic with which you are familiar with from canon. Lee and Kara are still Lee and Kara, and they behave as such. When I write an AU, my aim is always, always to respect the canonical framework while at the same time allowing for whatever minor deviations I choose to impose. Therefore, many events in this fic follow those in canon. But there are also some very necessary deviations along the way, owing to the nature of the plot as it develops. Rest assured that a ton of thought has gone into the events in this fic, and no canonical plot element has been removed without a heck of a lot of thought beforehand.

And the title? Well, as you can likely see above, Insanity Underrated comes from a slight alterations of two quotes which are often used in connection with Lee and Kara. Beyond that, I can't really say more, but I hope that the title's intent will become clearer to you as you read.

One additional word about this fic: although it is a work in progress, I absolutely intend to see it through. Once I get an idea in my head, I run with it, and I follow it through to its conclusion - partly because I myself have to know how the story ends. This fic will never be abandoned, though updates might sometimes come a little farther apart due to real life issues. I have made a promise to myself that I'll try to post at least one chapter per week, and I intend to stick to that as much as I can. However, I also understand if you would prefer to wait until it is finished to read through.
