| About: | The Jedi's Arse: An artists' creche. Rightio. This is a community for people to post their Star Wars prequel art... probably dominated by the Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan crowd, but other prequel art is welcome, too: portraits of characters, Naboo landscapes, even het is okay. This community is here for the benefit of the artists - to post our work, to throw out drawing challenges, that sort of thing. It's an encouraging creche, not a critique panel or a competition. It's all about participation, just like the kindy sports carnival. There are other good SW artsy comms out there, like ![[info]](http://p-stat.livejournal.com/img/community.gif){kind=small} darth_artsy, but I thought it would be nice to have a place for those of us who would be a trifle intimidated by sharing space with Real Artists. Talented people are welcome in this community too. But we might annoy the crap out of you asking for advice.Sorry for the enormous piles of info, but the comm seemed to need it. Please do read it. The comm mod doesn't take to kindly to people who don't bother to read the rules of the community they're trying to use. You must be a member to post a new entry to the community. Anyone can comment. There are two kinds of posts welcome here: posts of art, and posts encouraging art. Rules for posting and replying are below. POSTS OF ART This community is here for drawings, paintings, etc., etc. of this sort of thing: Pictures that feature characters from Episodes I-III. Settings from Episodes I-III. Original characters put in the prequel era. Scenes and settings from the Jude Watson books. AU illustrations of prequel characters. Crossover illustrations. That sort of thing. Drafts and quick sketches are entirely welcome. So are draft sketches. So are amazingly good pieces you've worked on for six months. So are your zine-pieces after the rights revert back to you. If you've got something you really want to express but can only do it in stick figures, that's totally okay. Here is an example of our minimum level quality expectation. The occasional photoshopped image, if it's photoshopped a *lot*, is okay. We would like it to be far more your work than the photographer's. Pulling together eighteen different images and working them over to age the characters twenty years and making a poster for Episode Three and a Half definitely fits here. However, pasting Qui-Gon's head on a naked body and cleaning it up to look good isn't really what we're here for. We may overlook the occasional latter sort of image if it's really funny. All ratings are welcome, from nice portraits through to hard core Gungan bdsm porn. If use of ratings and warnings and cuts isn't common sense to you, I have specified below. This comm is for posting your art, not just links to art archives or other livejournals. You can link as well, of course, but please only alongside an actual picture post. Posting pictures in this community is kind of the point. Posting artwork by other people without their permission will get an instant boot. It's bad, it's rude, and people who do it smell like poopy pants. POSTS ENCOURAGING ART This community is also here for this sort of thing: Drawing challenges/brainstorming ideas. Requests for inspiration. Artistic advice. (Like "Does anyone know how to X in photoshop?") Notices of zines looking for artists. Please stick closely to the list theme for new entries. We don't particularly care where comment threads go, but top-level posts need to be on-topic. There are piles of other communities for general discussion and whatever. THE POSTING RULES You may post your own art. You may post another artist's work *with* their permission if they can't post. ...You can post your 6yo nephew's work. Do not post artwork you find on the web. Do not post links to art archives unless there's something *particularly* relevant to discussion. Please put a cut with a warning if your image is naked, sexual, violent or romantically involves someone teenagerish. Especially if it's NakedSexuallyViolent!Palpatine ogling 16yo Showering!Obi-Wan. Also, I know with art - particularly manga - age portrayal is a vague thing, but please consider your piece very carefully before posting anything that wanders into pre-teen sex/romance. A pair of big-eyed manga initiate-boys holding hands is great, photo-realistic pre-teen sex is not. Please use your judgement. This comm is about pushing skills and confidence, not boundaries. The maximum size of an uncut image is 300 pixels across, and 100kb. The maximum size of an image behind the cut is 600 pixels across and 500kb. For anything bigger, please simply post a link to them (with a note to say their size). Better yet, post a screen-size image in the lj entry, *and* give a link to your bigger one where people can admire the detail. Please respect the size guidelines, as there are poor bastards on dialup, and wide images play havoc with lj layout. Artists, you are welcome to ask for only specific kinds of feedback, if you like. If you only want praise, that's okay. This isn't a critique panel. THE REPLYING RULES Please remember this is a warm, cuddly, confidence-building environment for artists. Respect artists' requests regarding what sort of feedback they get. And don't say stupid shit that will annoy people.
