JC Postcards

So I thought I would write something here.

It's OFFICIAL now.  JC has left Jive Records.  Articles can be found at BILLBOARD and EW.

I know we never heard anything about the Postcard Project, but I would like to think (ok maybe dreaming here but what's wrong with that?) that JC somehow saw those postcards and it gave him hope that no matter what, we'd stand behind him.

It didn't work in spurring JIVE into action, but obviously no matter what anyone said, they were going to lose out on promoting one of the best things they ever had.  (I can't wait till JC blows up the charts and makes JIVE wish they had done what both JC and his loyal fans wanted them to do in the first place).

The whole Postcard Project was initially set in motion to get the attention of Jive.  I know that didn't work, but possibly when we find out where JC is going (according to the articles has a new label in the wings) we might be able to let them know that we'll follow him anywhere and that he does have a legion of fans that support him.

So let's wait until we find out which label this is and then start another Postcard Project to do something like that. 

What do you all think?  Am I crazy here?  I don't want to see the enthusiasm that we had and the organization that we were able to achieve here die. 

I want to make sure this is HUGE so when we do find out the Label and hopefully a better address for contact, lets give ourselves a little more time to get as many people to contribute as possible. I feel really good about that.  I hope you all do as well.

Happy POSTCARDS DAY!!!

I just noticed (mostly because I've been so busy) that today is Good Friday.  Well most post offices are closed.  So if you were smart enough to send them ahead of time..good for you.  If not then sending on Saturday/Tuesday is fine as well.  Why didn't we remember the holiday?  Oh well.  Trickling in was bound to occur anyways..so that's ok.

Also in case it got lost in everything..you DO NOT have to print out the premade postcards or be pressured into making your own.  A NORMAL postcard is just fine! :) Just try to remember to include the website address http://jc.soul4poetry.com on there somewhere so they know why we did this (not for my own glorification).

This has all been a wonderful GROUP effort.  Without YOU this would have been just an idea.  I'm so excited for ALL of us.  SPARKLE AND SHINE everyone SPARKLE AND SHINE!!! :D

Well wow.  On March 27th I had what I thought was a "brilliant idea".  As a long time JC fan I have shared in the frustration of the lack of backing from his record company to get his musical career started.  I've supported him to the best of my ability over these last 6 years..or so I thought.

I then heard of something really cool and thought - hey..why can't we do something similar.  Thus the "JC Postcards Project" was born.  I created the community and you all flocked to it.  You helped me see that this was a GREAT idea, you helped my "brilliant idea" come to fruition.  Without the support, input and participation of all of you this would have been stuck at just an IDEA.  But now?  It's a "brilliantly executed plan". 

So as the eve of our "brilliantly executed plan" arrives, I would just like to say THANK YOU!  Thank you for being here, thank you for your input, thank you for helping spread the word (83 members!!) and thank you for your participation!!!

This post will be for you to comment with your name, city and/or country and if you are able to a picture of the postcard/s you've sent.  If you'd like to share what you've written that would be wonderful!  It might help others who are still struggling with words.

Reminder:  You can send any kind of postcard you want.  Create, Print or send a postcard you buy or already have.  It doesn't matter as long as your message is inline with letting JIVE/ZOMBA know how much JC's music means to you, that you are a consumer of his music and that you support his musical career.

Remember you can send any kind of postcard you want(4x6 size). One you've created, one you've downloaded from this post or just a plain old postcard. Let's keep this ON SUBJECT and remember to address JC's music, not his HUNK status or even how JIVE/ZOMBA has screwed up. Any mention of lack of backing from them, or anything negative from their camp will NOT go with our mission here. This is to be POSITIVE. We want to attract the bee to the honey..the honey being JC's musical career getting the backing it should. Send more than one postcard if you have more than one point to make like some of the suggestions given [[HERE]].

Ok interesting development here..

[[Here]] is a new article about the new official VP/CHR Promotion West Coast for Zomba.  He mentions JC.

As a group..do you think we should change things and address the postcards directly to him??

ETA: OR.. Should we address the SECOND BATCH of postcards to him..giving me time to find an LA office address..where he is.

I don't want to be too overbearing and send an annoying amount of postcards to get our point across..because that wouldn't be going with our "positive" theme.

Good Morning everyone!

I'm so happy with all the participation of this community.  You are all doing a great job.

Just some business this morning:

1.  73 members!  Awesome guys.  This is just awesome.  Keep spreading the word.  We will be doing a secondary mailing (we'll come up with a date once we have info on the OFFICIAL CD release).
2.  I have updated the official website for those that do not have a Livejournal and wanted information on how to send a postcard.  I also changed some wording as I had some grammatical errors. (If you see anymore please let me know!).  You may have to refresh pages to see changes.
3.  For those that have emailed me postcards I will be making an official postcard post on Wednesday (April 4th) with entries I have received.  Feel free to POST any (via a photo web server) there that you want.
4.  I was asked about sending a normal postcard.  This is just fine!  As long as you put the official website address on there somewhere:  http://jc.soul4poetry.com and your topic is inline with the suggested topics [[HERE]]  that is perfectly alright!

Ok.  So if anyone has any additional comments/questions/concerns PLEASE leave them in this post.  Again we are aiming for an APRIL 6th mail date so get busy guys! :D

Ok everyone.  I just got word from my good friend (whose husband works at the postal office)  that any postcard above the size of 4x6 may cost more than the standard stamp cost.  So maybe designers could keep that in mind.

Also if you are making a postcard you'll need approximately an 18 pixel border all around for printing purposes.

If anyone is stuck on pictures to use and want them to be legal, I do have some wonderful performance pictures that I took MYSELF and would be willing to let you use them.  Just email me at my LJ email addy.

Also...we have a member in the Philippines that may have issues sending the postcard.  I can definately print out the postcard for her, but do you have any other suggestions that may help her?

Congrats on 72 MEMBERS!! Omg.  I'm just amazed.  Keep up the good work everyone.  Spread the word far and wide. 

WOW.  We have GROWN so much here guys!  We are now up to 58 members!  Thank you to everyone that has spread the word about this community.  It looks like the majority vote is to send the postcards next week.  It has been suggested by a few that we also do a secondary sending of postcards.  Is this something you'd like to do?

If we are going to be sending postcards next week (we'll set a goal of Friday April 6th) anyone that would like to submit a postcard design for members to print out if they'd like should do so by Wednesday April 4th. If you can work it into your design to include the JC Postcards Project website:  http://jc.soul4poetry.com that would be wonderful.  Postcards should be either 4x6 inches or 5x7 inches as these are two standard Postcard sizes.

For anyone creating their own postcard, using magazine clippings, drawing out text that may include JC's name, songs he's written etc would be awesome.  Get creative. I would like to remind you however that this is about JC's music.  Please do not use this as a way to tell JIVE/ZOMBA how CUTE or HOT JC is.  Some suggestions of topics can be:

1.  I adore JC's music because....
2.  JC's music has touched me.....
3.  Listening to _______ song has made me feel......
4.  I have bought ________ (list cd's, cd singles, records of JC's only to let them know that you are a CONSUMER of anything JC) and will continue to support JC's music in this way because....

Anything along those lines. If you'd like to send more than one mentioning different things, I think that would be awesome as well!   The address that we are going to use is

Alright. Well we had a tie with the postcard poll yesterday. So now choose between these two options.

It was commented yesterday that the postcards should come in intermitently in the next couple of weeks. I would like this to make a BIG impact and trickling in will happen due to different cities/countries where the postcards will be originating from. I also don't think we'll have a problem with JIVE thinking that these are from the same person due to the postmarks from different cities/countries. I would however like this to come as a united front. Doing something like putting either on the front or back of ALL postcards "JC Postcards Project" is something I'd like to see happen. I want them to know that JC fans are united and organized and that this isn't just some FLUKE. If you have further comments on this please comment here.

eta: As far as linking back to this journal goes.. I was thinking I could do a generic page on my webspace (soul4poetry.com) instead of linking back here..that details the project and the contributors etc.

Something like they did for Nsync10.com http://www.nsync10.com/ That way if you have stuff on your LJ you'd rather not be known etc you can be safe.

We can also just include FIRST names of contributors (with state/province/country) and maybe pictures of the postcards you sent.

I call this Progress.  I would like to say WOW.  Yesterday we had 22 members and today we've grown to 36.  I would love to see this community reach over 100 members.  So remember to pimp it out more than once.  Make sure your friends list and any JC communities you belong to know about JC Postcards!! :D

Thank you to all of those that helped with feedback.  It was so wonderful to bounce ideas off of you and for you to tell me exactly what you thought.  I was off on some things and you enlightened me.

Postcard Design Contest

One of things brought up was to have a postcard design contest.  Now I want to just clarify..if you can't design one or just want to do your own thing, that is WONDERFUL.  Please do NOT feel pressured to have to contribute a design or feel less if you just want to do your own thing. 

So that being said..  if you want to create a Postcard design(s) for others to print out and use please submit your entries here.

Ideally (this is just a guideline..not set in stone) the postcards should be approximately 4x6 inches or 5x7 inches, 2 of the standard postcard sizes.

I think text would be a cool thing to grab attention.  JC's name, a song title etc.  [[THIS]] is an example of something I did for a concert of JC's to let him know how much I appreciated all the songs he'd written (up till that time).

Please make sure all entries are submitted by April 4th! 

I emailed JoJo from Kiss FM today about the voting on his website..and why JC never made it to the countdown.  This is what he had to say:

Hey guys...I'm glad you emailed!  You guys are doing an awesome job...seriously! 

Just so you know, this isn't just another song for me, this is a project I'm really close with.  I was asked to postpone the Top 9 debut for all involved to get their marketing issues on the same page.  But as soon as I get the green light I'm sure JC will be on the countdown.   Just so you know, the label, management and station are monitoring votes, almost hourly, and its important to blow them away with fan interest simply because some people at the label may not have JC as their highest priority.  I think this reaction may help change the level of attention he may be receiving at the label, at least that's what I hope.  Your voting is definitely opening up some eyes, which may be why we were asked to temporarily to hold back. 

This has to be a HUGE album for JC and, based upon the songs I heard, it may very well be the one!  Your votes are definitely being seen and being seen by the right people.

So once more there is frustration.  Although JC was #1 by a mile on JoJo's top 9@9 voting, the online voting doesn't count for much and JC did NOT make the countdown last night.

Yesterday I made a HUGE post about the direction of this project and although currently there are 22 members here, I recieved NO feedback in that post. 

If we are going to get anything accomplished, if this is going to take off and have a POWERFUL backing, I need the feedback in that post.  I can't do this alone.  ONE fan isn't going to make the difference.  It has to be all of you.  You joined for a reason..let that reason shine.

So I'd like to get down to business here.

There are a few things we need to get on the ball with.

1.  Address to send the postcards to.

Obviously we'd like to send them to JIVE head offices.  Does anyone have an address they could share with us?  If you do please either comment here or email me (myusername@livejournal.com).  I've emailed ZOMBA as per this website: http://www.zombalabelgroup.com/extranet/ and hopefully we'll get an answer.

2.  Postcard standards.

My main objective is to make sure that we are sending intelligently written postcards to Jive.  They should have a specific purpose and not be about telling them how HOT JC is etc.  I would also like to have some set designs for everyone to download and print on their own if they like.  Of course if you don't have a printer you can create your own, but I think having some ideas and choices will help. 

I want to focus on the size of the postcards, making sure we don't use anything copywritten and possibly having some pre-written text on the bottom (eg.  JC's music moves me because:).

3.  When to send the postcards and what potential goal/s of how many we'd like to get out would be.

Should we wait for an announcement of a CD release date?  Can we potentially send 100 postcards?  Let's discuss this.

Welcome to JC_postcards!

I got this idea from the community spn_postcards.  They basically set up the community to send postcards to the production office of Supernatural to thank them for all their hard work.

I know that most JC fans have been frustrated with the lack of "backing" from JIVE with regards to his music.  I've seen petitions and anger etc. 

Why not do the opposite?  Why not let JIVE know how much his music means to us instead.  Tell them WHY his music is good, why we listen to it over and over again, what it meant to us, how it changed something in our life. 

Something positive, something outstanding that they CAN'T ignore.

So WELCOME.  If you're here I'm sure you want to back this project.  So shoot some ideas off here.  Share them with your fellow JC fans.  Let's get it together and make this the most POWERFUL thing we as a fandom have ever done.  Make it real, make it work.

Are you pumped yet?  Good!  Now get everyone that you know is a JC fan to join.  Spread the word.  Get excited about this.  GO!
