  • 21:52 Is... is that Bradley Cooper in eyeliner?! #
  • 22:28 I was worried Rainn Wilson would be half naked. It's worse than that. #

Did LJ bring back the strike outs instead of pretending deleted journals were just bold type? And ad-free basic accounts?

LJ is starting to look a little more like it used to. Are these things too minuscule to get hopeful about?

8:42PM - Perception-Personality Image test

Your result for The Perception Personality Image Test...

NBPC - The Daydreamer

Nature, Background, Big Picture, and Color

You perceive the world with particular attention to nature. You focus on the hidden treasures of life (the background) and how that fits into the larger picture. You are also particularly drawn towards the colors around you. Because of the value you place on nature, you tend to find comfort in more subdued settings and find energy in solitude. You like to ponder ideas and imagine the many possibilities of your life without worrying about the details or specifics. You are in tune with all that is around you and understand your life as part of a larger whole. You are a down-to-earth person who enjoys going with the flow.

8:12PM - The Plotting of Sheriff!Ham

I haven't really been steaming through the Robin Hood disks, because, MAN those 70s shows are leisurely.

One reason why the very popular comic strip "Li'l Abner" was not adapted as a Broadway musical for several years after the prospect was first bruited was that someone told the cartoonist, Al Capp, "You're a guy with one trick--Abner doesn't marry Daisy Mae." I'm beginning to think, after three episodes, that the Sheriff, as the caption on my shiny new icon says* just isn't going to catch that wacky Saxon, now is he?

I have been making more rapid progress with "Mad Men" and "Footballer$ Wives" although I spin it by saying that I'm just being a Good School Citizen and getting things back so others can enjoy them.

It's clear that invention flagged fairly often in the writers' rooms for both "The Legend of Robin Hood" and "Footballer$ Wives," but when they can't think of what to do next, on Robin Hood they just run through the same bit of woodland. And in FW, the entire team has a nice refreshing shower. I prefer the latter, although when Robin and comrades emerge from the bushes breathing heavily, I assume Hood in the Boyz. Every time.

*Well, doesn't say very clearly--it's "Plantagenet Elmer Fudd"

6:21PM

Friend has bailed on me. We were supposed to go to Late Night at the SLC and the Student Activities fair tonight. He says he didn't know it was TOnight. Ummm, yeah. Yeah, you did. But I don't really blame him. He has this ridiculous crush on this boy from his dorm and said boy invited him to a frat rush thing. I guess I'll go anyway, although most everyone has gone home for the weekend (WHY?), so I'll be going alone. AWKWARD.

Anyway, I guess I'll go get some dinner, then head over to that. I have to sign up for some clubs or my mother is going to have a fit. *eye roll*

7:10PM - Predictions for "The Rocker"

I'm heading out soon to pick up my sister and go see The Rocker. Check this post later in the evening to see if my predictions came true!

Prediction one: Vik Sahay's part will be small, but still worth my entire admission fee.

Totally, totally true. I pointed at the screen, squealed, and grinned like a maniac. There may also have been grabby-hands and possibly clapping.

Prediction two: My resolve not to watch The Office (which was starting to crumble in the face of the adorableness that is Steve Carell) will be cemented once and for all.

I don't know, I'm gonna have to say false. Damn it, I'm usually so annoyed by Rainn Wilson, but he, like Carell, is winning me over. Grr.

Current mood: optimistic

5:52PM - update

Good news. Finally.

I am now a permanent full-time employee of the Nebraska State government. I had my final probationary-period review today. It went remarkably well, considering the one in July made me feel about two milimeters tall. I hope that I can improve to a sufficient level in my performance to move from meeting expectations to exceeding them, but I'm not about to hold my breath.

I am relieved because I am planning to spend a significant amount of money that I have just recently aquired through honest labour. I am going to buy a crappy, run-down, should-really-be-torn-down-but-won't-be-because-I-can't-afford-to-pay-the-demolition-expense house, as the first step in building a community living development. (If that meant nothing to you, don't worry, I probably am just that hard to understand after a 9 hour work day.)

It should be an interesting few last months of 2008.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks for listening.

Signing off.

11:57PM - I am such a lit.fangirl

You guys! I had my first proper lecture in my theory class today, and it was about Bakhtin, and I had semi-sensible thoughts, even though I hadn't read much of the text (saying "I haven't read enough of the text, I'm sorry" right at the start of the class probably helped), and I kind of get what he meant, and it's kind of awesome, and I said "well, I guess if Hegel and Marx were all adamant about their being right and thus being the end of history [and that relating to marxism], then Bakhtin kind of proves his non-marxism in the introduction to the text [the one on chronotopes in the novel], since he says that his thoughts are merely introductions to an idea, and that it's very possible, maybe even likely, that someone else will come along and make things clearer" and then I almost burst into tears (really!) because goddammit, but I love people who are all "these are my thoughts, feel free to expand on them"! I felt kind of (really really, actually) ridiculous, but, just, so much love. And it's so amazing to be in this class, that I hated passionately the first time I took it, that always left me feeling stupid and useless, and think that I understand, and that it's fun. And besides, I'm such a sucker for a good theory, man, you have no idea. (also, I was taking notes and found myself writing "chronotopes become overused (stereotopes? :D)" and it amused me a lot more than it should, but oh well.

I'm also a fairly huge sucker for hanging out with awesome people for, like, seven hours at VT, although I think this means I've spent at least 24 hours total in there since Monday, which maybe isn't very good. Except for their business, which is bound to bloom now that I keep going there 'cause Kaffe&Lars is closed and I can't quite be bothered finding anywhere else. Seven-ish hours today, at least five yesterday, a good four on Wednesday and so on and so forth. And a lot of them spent with really lovely (and surprisingly varied, for me) company, which of course is perfect.

Now I'm sleeping, 'cause I didn't get enough sleep last night and I'm tired and happy and I've spent so much time laughing that my cheeks kind of hurt, and I kept sneaking glances and throwing smiles around, and being distracted by my own head. My own head is really good at distracting me; often I don't mind.

And tomorrow I'm going to finish fixing up my article for Bøygen, and that idea gives me great joy, which probably also says really nerdy things about me. But then, my life says really nerdy things about me, so whatever. (it also means I get to send the e-mail which will contain the line "if you can find a way to say that that doesn't make me sound like a racist asshole, I'm all in favour of it" (which has the footnote "though I sincerely hope I'm not a racist asshole") These things happen when you're trying to be Sami academia.)

Current music: Mari Boine, in my head. (it sat duolmma mu)

3:47PM

Eeee! My aunt sent me a birthday package and I actually got it! On the porch on the other side of the house from the one with the mail slot, but I got it! Maybe the mail will stop sucking so damned bad! It's a seriously massive package of birthday awesomeness. Going to be verruh verruh tempting to open before the fifth, but I will resist.

Also, bought textbooks and notebooks. Textbooks came to $379 and one of them wouldn't deactivate, so I got to joke about shoplifting with the incredibly hot guy in the classic X-Men shirt standing at the door. I ended up with a backpack full of notebooks and pens (I bought so many pens last year and all but three are lost, srsly), a box of ramen, and three bags of textbooks on the incredibly crowded bus because of course it was late. I was trying to figure out if I could put my bags down between my legs while I stood clinging to the bar so I didn't hurt my poor pathetic fingers. This guy who was sitting down started teasing me that I put them down too early or something, idk I was listening to Panic and not random asshats on the bus. But I was standing there thinking, 'You look like an able bodied adult, how about you stand up and offer me your seat if you're going to speak to me otherwise don't be an asshole and leave me the fuck alone.' I was going to smack a bitch. But I restrained myself. But then it really sucked when I was coming home, because I didn't think, 'Hm I'm going to have to walk four and a half blocks carrying all this shit.' Four and a half blocks add up when you're trudging along the weight of all that knowledge. My arms really, really hurt.

I use one subject Five Stars for class notes because they have the strongest folders, IMNSHO, and if I don't have folders I never put my papers away and if I don't have strong folders, my papers end up everywhere no matter how hard I try to be good about putting things away. Last year it was pretty awesome because they put out a wider variety of colors. This year, however, is freaking epic. The colors! The patterns! So much love!

I'm kind of a lobster for school supplies.
