| | hot | ] | About a half hour before I was about to leave work, I got a call from my mom saying there was a small bush fire in the canyon. My parents backyard is right at the beginning of the canyon trails, so not good! Seems though someone got the fire dept out there in time to get it under control so no harm done, whew. Still scary though, and it's always a potential danger but they've never had a major problem in the 30+ yrs they've been there. My mom & I went with our neighbor to investigate a bit further the damage on the trail.. he had heard from the firemen that there were other fires as well and they suspected it was no accident. We did go up further to a clearing and saw another huge black spot where quite a few empty beer cans/bottles were nearby. So seems a bunch of lil pyro a-holes thought it would be fun to get drunk and set fires.. well ha ha, very funny motherf*ckers.. you could've burned the canyon and some homes down. *NICE*. It's probably the same thing that happened with the major forest fires we had recently in Cali.
Well we got lucky this time but with the hot dry season still around, it's very much a danger. Just happened it's not very windy out so that helped at least. The temps have gone way up around here again.. seems to happen more so towards the end of the week too. But tonight was so pleasant outside I had to take an evening dip in the pool. :> |

| | chipper | ] | I finally picked up Supernatural Season 3. My Target finally got it in. And it comes with a Target exclusive mini Supernatural calendar. Not bad for $37.99. The calendar will probably stay on January knowing me (I am lazy when it comes to that) but the pictures are hawt and I should scan them someday. I would have liked the lil impala but yeah Best Buy is like 45 minutes away plus I get a small discount at Target. They need to make Sam and Dean action figures!! Who's with me on that?
So yeah I spent the day getting some chores done, watching Destination Truth and just chilling. Ghost Hunters was freaky last night...anyone see it?
Meh..I work tomorrow. |

1. Comment on this post. 2. I will give you a letter. 3. Think of 5 fictional characters and post their names and your comments on these characters in your LJ.
erinm_4600 gave me B
Boromir (LotR) - I actually didn't like him at first. Mind you, I was 7 when my grandfather read LotR to me, but as soon as he showed up at the council of Elrond, I was like "mehhh I don't think I trust this guy..." Then - having grown older and wiser - I realized that he was actually one of the most interesting characters in the trilogy because of how very human he was. When writing a story, he'd be the kind of character I'd be more interesting in working with rather than Aragorn or Legolas or something.
Blackarachnia (BW/BM) - Ohh BA *grins* Easily my favorite character in the two series. I honestly relate to her. Not because I can do roundhouse kicks (ha!) but because being a computer science major, I totally relate to what she goes through being the only woman in a male-dominated world. And she uses wit - and sometimes charm ~_^ - to deal with it all. Plus she has a knight in shining armor for a boyfriend. Now tell me that isn't awesome.
Brienne (ASoIaF) - Another woman in a man's field, and very unique character at that. I fume when people say she's just another Xena clone. It's too much to get into for non-AsoIaF fans, but those of you who know her know that she's so much more than that. I like that, while she's not beautiful and is very much the warrior, GRRM still shows that she's a woman by giving her her infatuations with various men who've treated her better than most do. It might be a character flaw (that she didn't see that Renly used that affection for his own gain, for instance) but it's a very real character flaw.
Bulma (DBZ) - Hehe I only recently looked at this fandom again, and honestly Bulma has her quirks (a lot of them). She's loud and opinionated, not afraid of speaking her mind. But what a lot of people forget is she's also a scientist. She's really smart. And honestly, if she wasn't loud and opinionated, how do you expect her to deal with Vegeta? So my otp in that fandom. ^^ But yes, another strong woman in a male-dominated world. Are we seeing a pattern yet?
Batman (Batman) - Just love him for his complexity. I mean, you can seriously write research papers on this guy and not run out of material. I'm less interested in his fighting/interaction with villains then I am with his interaction with other members of his little family (ie the Robins and Batgirls). I think that's when the most human part of him comes out. |

I came home and went straight to sleeping, had terrible dreams, and eventually woke up and sneezed more.
I'm going back to the sleeping now, because regardless of whether or not I have a face, I still need to open the store tomorrow.
Please enjoy this picture of David Duchovny from 1991.

March 1920
There had been several successive houseparties since Mr. Deering’s arrival in Miami, and now that Chasez had returned to London – escorting Nonna and Barbara Fatone on the liner – ( all the work in the kitchen had fallen to Giuseppe. . . ) |

| Radical? |
[Sep. 4th, 2008|09:21 pm] |
One of the gentlemen in my office was holding forth today on the Obamas, and he made this statement about Mrs. Obama:
"I don't like her. She's too radical."
Why is she radical? What's so radical about a woman who went to college, got a degree, got married, had children, held down a job?
Or is "radical" a code word for a woman who's smarter than most men and isn't afraid to speak her mind? Maybe "radical" is the code word for a woman who has these qualities but isn't a member of your party. After all, the descriptions I just used for Mrs. Obama could be applied just as easily to Mrs. Palin, but you don't hear these crabby white men calling *her* radical, do you?
*snort*
Sorry. Don't mind me. I'm just feeling a little...radical. *eyeroll* |

The only redeeming feature of fall being right around the corner....football season. Go Giants!! Although I don't expect much from them this year, they usually suck after winning a Super Bowl. That said, they are winning right now 16-0. Of course I have no clue if Washington is any good.

| | Hot tamale, hot hot tamale! | ] | Today was muuuuch nicer than yesterday in all ways except weather. It has been raining allll day. Granted, we did need the rain, but it makes the drive a bit more long and annoying, and I got way tired from it being so dark.
As for work, I wrapped up that craziness from yesterday asap, and that was that. The rest of the day was spent working on my more usual assets. Yay!
I guess that's really all that's worth mentioning.
Oh, my morning kicked off hilarious. I was talking ANTM with Justin (I got him to watch YAY). We chitchatted about what girls we liked and how awesome Isis is, then I mentioned Jay Manuel's hair. Justin put his hand on my arm in a comforting sort of way and was like "OhmiGod. I want to hit that so hard. I'm not even joking, I would hurt that boy." Dave and I were in HYSTERICS at how sincere he said it. So cute. I told him that if he ever managed to bag Jay, I was moving in with them and he couldn't stop me.
So yeah. That was my day.
OMG, JUST ONE MORE DAY!
THEN FLORIDA!!!
Keep the prayer circle going for me, guys. Ike might hit Florida more than they originally thought. Let us all put our brainpower together to blow it South and/or totally make it disappear. WE HAVE THE POWER.
Time to go pack remnants that got washed this week and get to painting my nails. Heeeeeeee. |

Here we go, today starts my random, insane football ramblings that will last all the way through the month of February.
The 2008/2009 NFL season starts tonight! It's two teams I've always hated and one of them beat one of my favorite teams in the Super Bowl (wait, no, that was a dream. YES! That never happened), but still FOOTBALL!
I'm going with my same prediction as last year for the Super Bowl: Cowboys vs. Patriots. I was half right last year. I expect the Cowboys to get it together and finally win a goddamn playoff game. It's been awhile, fellas, come on. And this is the last year in that legendary stadium. SEND IT OFF WITH A BANG! Marion Barber is going to have a monster year as the #1 running back for Dallas. He's a beast!
As for the Ravens, I'm wicked excited to see rookie Joe Flacco get the start at QB on Sunday. Kyle Boller is out for the year (part of me is happy about this, now they have no choice but to try out the new guys). I don't expect any miracles this year, especially since the sucky season of last, but I hope they at least break even. The new coach is going to have some work to do.
FOOTBALL!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so giddy! I need to buy some alcohol. |

| Car? |
[Sep. 4th, 2008|03:38 pm] |
I have some friends whose car died that need a car or some sort of vehicle until Feb or so. (It's my missionary evangelical friend and his family - they are back in the US from Poland until his wife has their third daughter).
They're living in Lake Elmo, MN right now.
I know it's kind of a long shot, but...anyone have a car they could borrow? Or any leads? :)
(I'd give them mine, but it belongs to the ex, and he's reclaimed it, since I can't drive it anyways!)
Thank you! |
