Have cake, can't eat
So [info]anitab gets a birthday cake, but the moment it's opened, Infinitea's manager runs up and says she can't have it here. She can cut it, but we'll have to go out to eat any of it. Against the rules, you see. They don't have cake that they can serve, either.

What gives?

So what did you all do finally? Ate it out on the road? Mashed it in the manager's face?

I left early, so I took my piece, walked out, and ate it while waving back in through the glass door.

Much later...
When Anita asked if it was ok to have the cake outside the door, they offered us plates and spoons to have the cake at the table; the manager got a piece of it too.

yes, this was indeed very strange. i've NEVER come across any restaurant that does not allow a birthday cake to be cut in its premises. i totally understand outside food not being allowed, but a birthday cake?!!

well, later in the evening, i asked if we could have our cake outside the door and the manager finally seemed to have a change of heart and got us plates and spoons so we could eat the cake inside after our dinner was over.

i was especially disappointed because i've been an infinitea patron for donkey's years and this was the last thing i had expected. i would have definitely chosen a different restaurant to call my friends on for my birthday.

Especially when they don't serve cakes themselves. That manager must have been in the Govt bureaucracy earlier;-)

You should've asked him to define "eating", then put the piece of cake in your mouth, chew, gulp, run-tongue-over-your-lips. Is that eating? Sorry, I didn't mean to gulp it--it just melted in my mouth.
