A/N: This fic wouldn't exist at all if it weren't for inkdot, twentyfivepast, and aphelant, who turned me on to amazing Canadian music. The title is from Sarah Harmer's Almost, which I got from one of them (and can't remember which one!). It came up on shuffle the other day and completely ate my brain until I got all this down. You should listen to it as or before you read! Because it was literally on a loop the entire time I was writing and editing! It's now edged up over 100 on the playcount!

You might also recognize a line from everybody's favorite animated 80s girl band. I live for feedback, as always, and this story's a little different than the Penny/Sheldon I usually do, so it would be especially lovely to know what you think of it.

A/N: So this was originally intended to be a Leonard-finds-out sequel to The Vengeance Paradox with lots and lots of smut and lolz. As it turns out, it still kind of is that but I'm apparently more interested in stupid relationship stuff and talking and shit than in making porn (I know, wtf). On top of that, it came out with shifting POVs and a failed attempt at omniscient third-person narrator and went all angsty in parts. Ugh what. I blame Elvis Perkins (okay, seriously, I've flailed about him on LJ and on Twitter, and in email and chat probably, and if you aren't listening to him yet GO NOW). Bottom line: I don't even know. I'd really appreciate any feedback you guys have. This is part one of who-knows-how-many - am posting this now to spur me to actually finish it, even though s3 is going to Joss it all to hell and back.

I know the setup of the Cheesecake Factory kitchen isn't the way it is irl but if the show can mess with it, so can I! Oh and there are a couple of blink-and-you'll-miss-'em Springsteen references, too. Come on, Leonard's from Jersey!

OKAY! Allow me to channel Monk for a second; here's what happened: I meant to post this last night but it needed one last once-over, or seven. So I got on my computer and somehow started googling Jim Parsons pictures instead. And then I made the_wanlorn flail with me over some of his Late Late Show clips.
