Video of INXS at the Pride of Australia Awards 2009 courtesy of 1minxs. I think she did a great job considering it was spur of the moment, and I greatly appreciate it. :) So fun to see Andrew and Jon up front! Of course Tim and Garry are missed, but I love this rendition.

And FWIW, I'd be on board for some sort of "Unplugged" tour. ;)

Nick Cave, Michael Hutchence's friend and godfather to Tiger Lily, sang "Into My Arms" at Hutch's memorial service. Out of respect for the family, he requested the song not be televised.

I dedicate this song to Michael Hutchence's memory.

INXS made a post on Facebook and I wanted to share it with those who don't use Facebook. Short but heartfelt.

"A very sad day for us and all music lovers 12 years ago....We miss you mate.....Love and Peace.....AF, GB, TF, JF & KP"

I hope Timmyfan doesn't mind me posting her video but I thought it was a great way to commemorate Hutch's wonderful life - sharing what he meant to his fans.

And here is a beautiful tribute to the handsome gypsy we all adore.

A hilarious new comedy called Pirate Radio (also known as "The Boat That Rocked") is in theaters in America right now. I just came back from seeing it and the credits sequence was amazing. Of course all the usual fare is present, the names of the actors and all that. But it was artwork accompanying the credits that won me over. Several different album covers throughout rock and roll history are shown in various sizes as the credits roll. I think you know where this is going... Shortly after the Nirvana album artwork shows up stay a few seconds longer and you will see the cover art from the historic INXS album "KICK" take up half of the silver screen. It's huge and a great thrill for any INXS fan.

OLD guitars, clarinets and keyboards will soon have a new home in the Outback, with David Manion looking for unwanted musical instruments to donate to a remote, Northern Territory Aboriginal community.

“I’ve had a great response and support already from Manly Surf Club, Manly Council and (Warringah MP) Tony Abbott. (INXS guitarist) Tim Farriss contacted me through the surf club and has donated one of his guitars,” Mr Manion said.

“This is a local Manly grassroots campaign. People have been really generous - I’ve been given a $800 clarinet, a saxophone and a mini cello. It doesn’t matter what condition the instruments are in.”

Mr Manion is collecting the instruments for Sammy Butcher from the Warrumpi band. Butcher runs a music program for indigenous children in Papunya, a remote NT community.

Mr Manion said that the idea to help indigenous children came after watching a documentary on TV on the Bush Bands Bash, a musical event showcasing indigenous music.

“There is a lot of musical talent out there and I wanted to do something to help.”

Mr Manion is organising for a shipment of musical instruments to be sent early next month. Unwanted instruments can be dropped off at Manly Surf Club this morning. Mr Manion will be there from 9 to 11am and again next Saturday from 9 to 11am.

Also, INXS is now on twitter.

I'm going to keep this pithy...

I will no longer be a Maintainer for this community. My interests have changed, my priorities have shifted. Graduate school in 2010 is a definite possibility. I have a web site that I want to focus on. I can't pretend to be as enthusiastic about INXS as I used to be.

I have too many good memories associated with the band and the community to abandon either one. In my heart, I will always be a fan of INXS. My activity on Livejournal and Facebook will reamin unchanged, and I intend to stay in touch with all of my INXS friends. Yes, I will even post here once in a while, too.

Thank you everyone and best of luck to you!

Sincerely,
Jeanette

I can't remember if anyone ever posted this or not, but on the website "The Smoking Gun," you can find lists of celebrity backstage riders where they list the required perks of different acts. And of course I had to see if our boys were on there. Sure enough, here's the link to check out one of INXS' early riders. Though I doubt it's changed all that much.

Rider link

What I thought was very cool was that they actually had consideration for the audience in their rider. It's not something I've seen much in celebrities' lists of perks.

The very first thing on the list was that if the venue that they're playing is a reserved seating venue, then members of the audience must be allowed to stand in front of their seats if they wish without being harassed by security or asked to sit down, so long as they aren't causing any damage to the venue or blocking any fire exits.

The other thing that was especially sweet was that they reserved the right to have any security or house staff removed from the area and relieved of their duties if they were found to be abusing their authority or using excessive violence against the general public.

Leave it the guys to look out for the audience, and actually include the audience's safety in their rider.

Not to mention they took care of their crew. They required that the crew have access to shower facilities and meals.

On a funnier note, they also required a ping pong table and, of course, beer. :p

Yay,

the INXS boys have been busy lately. First we had Kirk cooking, soon we'll have Timmay in his cricket whites, and now Jon is going to be on tv in Australia.

Mind you, I don't want them tiring themselves out which will result in them taking a siesta, they have to conserve their energy.

Alas I can't watch it because I'm not in Australia, hoping some lovely person will put it on youtube.
